how to remove cleaning spots on infotainment screen :/

hi, does anyone know how i can get these spots off my bmw infotainment screen? i happened to hit my screen while i was cleaning my car, i used meguiar’s leather cleaner and conditioner and also some all purpose surface cleaner, but i’m not sure which one caused this.

i’ve already tried alcohol, a display cleaner, water, and a little bit of soap, but nothing seems to remove them. has anyone had this happen before or knows if there’s a way to fix it?

Paint chip on civic, how long to wait for ceramic coat

I am not sure if this fits the subreddit but I had a table fall on the hood of my car and make this chip, I bought a paint kit from scratches happens and they say that I should wait 90 days to apply a ceramic coat. I am wondering if because the chip is so incredibly small this would lower the time between me being able to ceramic coat the car?

Bugs on Ceramic. APC?

Newly ceramic SYSTEMX coated truck and have been having trouble with bugs. Current routine is foam rinse foam with car pro reset in the cannon and bucket. I hate the idea of buying a whole bunch of cleaners for specific purposes. I was thinking of getting ADS Clean and using it in an IK 1:20 to see if that helps. Only reason for ADS clean is that its a citrus based cleaner or would y’all just go straight for a prewash? The bugs dont really get on the paint, the grille, mirrors and glass get coated.

Looking to open up the discussion. Thanks!

If I'm a beginner, what should I prioritize for protecting my paint? Polish? Sealant?

Hey everyone, really confused on how to protect my paint AFTER washing. I've read the wiki and all the posts but there's a lot of information to take in and I have a VERY limited budget so trying to figure out what to prioritize.

For now should I just wash and apply a sealant? What would be best

Is invisible glass the bomb for cleaning windows or what?

Probably dumb post but... My ppf installer loves using an ONR mix for window cleaning. I have used it for a while but someone told me just to use invisible glass. Skip the other "special" glass cleaners. He was right, along with Rag Company FTW its fantastic. I am not even sure FTW is necessary (those towels are pricey).

Need advice on my weekly wash

Bought a new white car 4 months back as my daily driver and picked up detailing as a hobby few months back with pressure washer, foam canon and chemicals to wash on the weekends.

My car gets traffic film after a week and more noticeable after two weeks of not washing, the kind that my kid could draw multiple hearts with her fingers on the hood and door panels.

So i've tried washing it weekly but it's taking me about 2 hours.

The car is ceramic coated.

Pre foam with Carpro Reset 1:20, dwell for 2-3mins

Rinse

Foam again with Carpro Reset 1:20 and contact wash 1:500 Reset in the bucket.

Rinse

Spray Yum detailer as a drying aid and wipe the panels with microfiber drying towels.

Wipe the door jams, frunk and boot with the quick detailer.

I know most would say to go with rinseless wash but i like foaming the car. Reset isn't primarily for a prewash but i wanted to not prep different dilution chemicals and saving some time as i only have 1 foam canon.

Any way of shortening the whole exterior process?

First time ever doing a full exterior detail

This is the first car I ever bought & I have now officially owned it for a full year. The fiancé is out of town for the week so thought I’d try to tackle this today.

I did a full wash, decontaminated the paint, used a clay bar on the entire car, then polished & waxed. I also dressed the tires (though I did this a couple days prior) & added some protectant to the trim.

I think I did a good job & think it looks great. I finished up & there was a nice sunset so decided to take some pics.

Polished my 1994 Miata

Hi, I own a '94 model NA in "Crystal White." As is well known, this particular shade of white was problematic back in the day (Single Stage)

Unexpectedly paint hasn't started flaking off in chunks yet, but the coating on the side mirrors is so thin that the primer is showing through. (I actually made it a bit worse by using compound on them at first, thinking the spots were just stains)

+The paint had dents and numerous scratches; the surface had also become almost completely dull.

Since this was the first time I’ve ever attempted a job like this, I assume I probably made some mistakes along the way but still worth to share so someone could take some notes :) I would like to hear my mistakes and your advices as well.

Here are the products I used and the order in which I used them:

1- Meguiar's Gold Class Car Shampoo with a Chemical Guys wash mitt

2- Meguiar's clay bar and spray lubricant

3- Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with an SPTA orange pad

4- Meguiar's Ultimate Polish with a Griot's orange pad

5- Griot's 3-in-1 Spray Ceramic Wax

\+ A bunch of Kirkland microfiber towels

How to get rid of black residue on rims

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone has seen this before.

My alloy wheels have thousands of tiny black spots on them that just won't come off. I've tried:

- Regular wheel cleaner

- Thorough washing

- Iron remover (multiple applications)

Nothing seems to make any difference. The spots are still there and they almost look embedded in the finish.

Are these burnt-in brake dust particles, damaged clear coat, or something else? Has anyone managed to remove this kind of contamination?

I've attached a photo. Any advice or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Meguiar's Hyper-Wash Update

Stopped in Harbor Freight recently to grab some Hyper Wash and noticed they had two different bottles in the same spot, marked at the same price. Based on Meguiar's website they are supposedly the exact same product, simply stating it's the "Same Great Product - In Updated Packaging". But, the original label (on the left) has never said anything about a Watermelon scent so that appears to be new as well. Also it's hard to tell from the photo but in person the new soap is slightly darker in color.

I compared the ingredient lists, which upon first glance looked quite different:

Original Label:

>Water (7732-18-5)
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (68585-47-7)
Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate (68439-57-6)
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (68585-34-2)
Cocamidoproply Betaine (61789-40-0)
Sodium C10-16 Alkylbenzenesulfonate (68081-81-2)
Sodium Chloride (7647-14-5)
Lauramine Oxide (1643-20-5)
Sodium Xylene Sulfonate (1300-72-7)

New Label:

>Water (7732-18-5)
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (68585-47-7)
Sodium Chloride (7647-14-5)
Sodium Xylene Sulfonate (1300-72-7)
Lauramine Oxide (1643-20-5)
Cocamidoproply Betaine (61789-40-0)
Sodium C10-16 Alkylbenzenesulfonate (68081-81-2)
Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate (68439-57-6)
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (68585-34-2)
Benzyl Benzoate (120-51-4)
Terpineol (98-55-5)
Linalool (78-70-6)
Benzyl Alcohol (100-51-6)

On closer inspection though the nine core ingredients are identical, but are just listed in a different order. From what I could find ingredient lists on industrial chemicals are not required to follow any order of amounts like food is in the US, so the different order is likely meaningless; probably just how someone in product marketing typed them in.

The final four ingredients in the list are all new, and from some basic searching it appears they are all common organic compounds that were used to add the Watermelon scent to the soap.

>Terpineol, Linalool - naturally occuring alcohols commonly used for floral (and watermelon) scents
Benzyl Benzoate - organic compound stabilizer and solvent in cosmetics
Benzyl Alcohol - aromatic liquid naturally found in many essential oils and fruits

Anyways, I did the research out of curiosity and figured I'd share my findings in case anyone else was concerned that Meguiars might have changed a popular product for the worse.

Did I mess up my lens restoration?

I used the Sylvania kit and it's foggier than when I first started it. Did I not sand enough? Should I fix this with another Sylvania kit or try the Cerakote?

My problem was that I wasn't sure how long to sand with each grit. Video instructions indicate until it's smooth but it felt smooth to me throughout the process.

Tips are welcome!

How safe is blow drying with rinseless washing?

The car is paint corrected and coated. I want to avoid swirls but only option right now is rinseless. My current routine:
-Pre-soaking the entire car with ONR and letting that sit for 5 minutes.
-Go over panel by panel using the sponge + bucket method.

I recently just picked up a leaf blower and was looking to incorporate that into the routine. Will blow drying ONR off the car be a problem, or should I just stick to MF drying?

I want to reduce the amount of contact the car gets after the ONR, and separately washing microfiber towels weekly is annoying when you don’t have an in-unit laundry. (Plus all the intricacies that go with that)

Active 2.0 Cycling Issues

Hey everyone,

I’ve been reading about the Active 2.0 reliability issues that have been popping up, so I figured I’d add my experience as another data point.

My unit was brand new, and this was its very first use. As you can see in the video, the pump cycles every few seconds. I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting before deciding to return it.

Here’s what I tried:
- Swapped between multiple garden hoses from different brands.
- Tested both 5/8” and 3/4” hoses.
- Verified every connection was tight with no leaks.
- Bought a water flow meter to rule out my water supply. It measured 3.3 GPM, so water flow wasn’t the issue.

After exhausting those options, I returned the unit.

At this point I’m considering either the Ryobi 1.8 GPM Automotive Pressure Washer or the Ava GO+ instead.

I really wanted to like the Active 2.0 and Active as a company. It’s a well-designed pressure washer at a great price point, and I appreciate that they’re continuing to innovate. Unfortunately, based on my experience and some of the reports I’ve seen from others, I think they still have some reliability issues to work through.

I’m not saying every unit has problems but for now I’m going to hold off on buying another Active product until I see more confidence in their long-term reliability. They also seem to be having some logistical issues with parts as the Wall Mount and 100’ Hose have been on back order for sometime.

Hope this helps another person who is in the market for one of these.

Interior Final Boss (Before/After)

Worst interior we’ve worked on to date. 5 pitbulls + years of built-up hair. The before photos don’t even show how bad it actually was. Don’t even ask how long this took.

Is it fixable or do I need a new one

A rag with alcohol was left on it to bed rid of the white out that had spilled and I think the alcohol may have warped the plastic, I’m pretty I need a new one but if you have anything tips or anything I can do to bring it back to a decent level please tell me.
