I honestly don’t understand what Gearbox is trying to do with Borderlands anymore.

Borderlands 1 had Atlas as the main corporate villain. Borderlands 2 perfected that formula with Hyperion and Handsome Jack. Even TPS indirectly showed how destructive Dahl really was. The series had a very clear identity built around dystopian megacorporations, Vaults, colonialism, and mercenary wars.

And then Borderlands 3 comes along and somehow DOESN’T make Maliwan the main villain.

To me, that’s still the biggest missed opportunity in the franchise. Maliwan felt like the perfect next step for the series because they were presented as a ruthless high-tech military corporation involved in an actual corporate war and a hostile takeover of Atlas. On top of that, Katagawa honestly felt more interesting and entertaining than the Calypso Twins.

Instead, BL3 focuses mostly on influencer and streamer satire through the Calypsos, which makes the entire tone feel very different from the older games. Earlier Borderlands titles were funny, but the world itself was still treated seriously. In BL3, everything feels much louder, more self-aware, and constantly focused on meme-style humor.

I feel like Gearbox wanted to avoid creating “another Handsome Jack,” but in doing so they lost part of what made Borderlands special in the first place.

And now Borderlands 4 already seems to be changing direction again, which honestly makes it feel like Gearbox itself no longer fully knows what the core identity of the franchise is supposed to be.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I really don‘t want to give up on this series, but I‘m afraid, that it won’t get better.

I have read about Mods, the big ones standing out seem to be Balands, Redux and Grims Cut. Not quite sure which one does what. I know some of them include QoL Mods but I dont know the details.

I would like to hear your recommondations for BL3 Mods that would enhance the experience. I like the BL3 Gunplay and just like to play more.

Also for those who played BL4 - is it worth it now for 40€ on Steam or should I still wait. I will get the Game eventually but I am always tempted to maybe try it out. The Gunplay looks quite nice but most reviews I see have many negatives and the DLCs that came out are overpriced and not quite what the community wanted.

I just cannot get into the story and I hate the slow movement and space setting but I love every other game

Should I just stick it out? Every time I play i just get bored so fast, does anyone else feel this way or am I just being sour?

I just finished beating the first Borderlands game, including all the post-game DLC except for the Underdome, and I'm actually in awe at how long this game actually ended up being. Most of the information online said this game would be about 25-35 hours long, but after beating the original final boss and completing the vault, I was sitting at a little over 80 hours in total. Then, with all the DLC, I ended finishing the game with over 130 hours. That's crazy! It took me like an entire month to finish this game. Obviously, I'm not complaining but I just wasn't expecting this game to be such a commitment, haha. I have no idea why everything I've seen online underestimates the playtime so much. To be clear, I never farmed or grinded for anything in the entire game. Are Borderlands 2 and 3 also going to be this long too?

Looking to get back into borderlands after a few years away. If I’m looking for an endgame grind (all cosmetics, all bosses on each scaling endgame level, etc) would you recommend bl2 or bl3?

OP levels seem maybe a bit more digestible than mayhem levels with the random things added in

Wir kaufen die Spiele, strampeln uns ab. Wenn es dann mal leicht geht wird zeitnah die Tür zugemacht. Deswegen habe ich in B1-3 später mit Mods gespielt. Alles, damit wir bei der Stange bleiben. Auch konnte ich bei Tinas Wonderland nach einem Update das Spiel nicht mehr starten wegen Einsprungspunkt. Die hatten einfach meinen Threadripper 1900 8 Kern CPU ausgeschlossen. Geld zurück gab es nicht. Das nennt sich dann Weiterentwickeln usw.

Hello Travelers! Anyone have a favorite Claptrap color variant aside from the standard yellow? Mine's always been the Jakobs' representative found mainly in the Zombie Ned DLC of the first game. Id like to know everyone else's!

To preface this, I'll say I've been playing the borderlands games off and on for a long time, though I've never taken any of them all the way to the limit. I want to change that, but don't know where to start.

I've done my reading, looked over UVHM, OP levels, Mayhem levels, but I want to hear from the real veterans of the series. Which game is the best to go with for a first time taking a character to the limit? If it matters at all, 2 and 3 are the ones I've played the most, and the characters I typically go with are Zero and Flak respectively.

Hello, i found a new sealed Copy of tiny tinas wonderland chaotic great edition for 15€. I never played any borderlands games, i heard great things about them. Still, is it worth buying it?

Really just the title question. Borderlands has been my favorite game series since I was young and I’m just interested to see which ones are most favorited. Mine is BL3 because I like the gameplay so much compared to the rest (haven’t played BL4 so that could change)

Hello! I've been playing the bioshock trilogy recently for the first time and have been loving it and decided to check other franchises I've never played but always wanted to.

And I realize I had never played borderlands before in my whole life, so I wanted to ask you guys things I should do in the games, and tips so that I don't miss anything or mess something up because I really like playing games to the fullest from the get-go.

Also as a note, I'll be playing the original version of borderlands 1 and the handsome collection.

So there are no borderlands 3 and 4... ***Yet.***

These are my own thoughts and I know the hunters are going to come at me harder than Scooter does to his sister with his attempts, so hear me out first ok?

I think a great DLC Guest/Vault Hunter idea for the franchise would be Duke Nukem who I genuinely do think would fit into the series easily with his mindset.

Dukes weapons such as the Freeze-Ray, Shrink-Ray, The Chaingun, RPG, Pipebombs, Devastator, Microwave Expander, Tripbombs and shotgun would fit into the Games looted universe and be awesome

As for Duke Himself?

You could explain that he's been thrown into the new universe when he was pursuing Dr. Proton who was experimenting with a new portal/dimensional device which threw in all of his weapons, enemies and even the Duke Himself which could be a fun meta addition to the franchises comedic and often ridiculous style.

His vault hunter special ability could be him using the Shrink Ray to shrink down enemies and crush them using his foot, or by taunting enemies while he's able to kick enemies with the boot into the air causing them to slow down for easy weapon kills similar to how it was designed in Bulletstorm tbh.

You could have skill trees composing of:

Ego[Health&Shield]

Hail To The King[Weapons]

Come Get Some[Special ability bonuses]

Dukes whole personality would be funny ways for him to react to the Borderlands universe, being so confused by the graphics and the weapon drops, trying to hit on Moxi, Claptrap and him having more hilarious banter like at the game awards he once did

I know people are going to downvote me and say that Borderlands should be just its own thing, but at this point Randy owns the DN franchise and does absolutely nothing with it. I think this would be a fun way to have him get some life and keep being alive.

Grog heals an absolutely massive 65% of all damage dealt. That is undeniably great, especially when combined with a secondary damage source, such as a slow projectile weapon that can be fired then swapped out for the grog, a grenade, or an Amp or Nova shield.

The Rubi heals a comparatively tiny, but still significant, 12% of all damage dealt. HOWEVER, unlike the Grog Nozzle, the Rubi actually deals damage, meaning it alone can be enough to heal you. At OP10, a max DPS (according to Lootlemon) Grog deals 200 thousand damage per shot, while the Rubi deals 1 million. That’s *five times more*! Additionally, Rubi’s bullets explode on impact, whereas the Grog’s bullets explode three times along their trajectory, which is much harder to take advantage of.

At high level, the damage numbers are so inflated that a couple shots from Rubi can *easily* heal you past health gate. Plus, a fastball (the go-to tool for quickly healing a lot with a lifesteal weapon, or for a kill in FFYL) does 90 MILLION damage. Multiply that by 0.12 and you get 10.8 million, well more than any character’s maximum health. Even the Lightning Bolt deals 7.6 million (heals 900k), and the Chain Lightning 6.6 million (heals almost 800k). 65% lifesteal is the definition of overkill.

For completeness, I should note that the Grog does have a few notable advantages. For one, it’s always slag. Grinding for a slag Rubi can be a pain, especially since you’ll want to redo it every couple OP levels. Additionally, being a quest item, the Grog levels with you in UVHM, meaning you can grab it at the beginning and just hold onto it forever. It also can’t be sold accidentally, which isn’t a huge deal but is nice.

It also has a huge 400% crit bonus, so it can actually deal damage on a crit (although those are difficult to hit with the Grog), but it can also be used as a poor man’s Lady Fist. Finally, it can give you that weird drunk status, which lowers your fire rate and accuracy, but makes you fire MANY additional projectiles, and this persists when you swap weapons. I find that difficult to take advantage of, personally, but I am notably bad at video games.

Those advantages have some baggage, however. When you get Rubi, its parts are locked in. The Grog’s parts are reset every time you quit and reload. The Grog’s parts mostly don’t matter due to its low damage, but the Rubi’s parts can be significant! Second of all, being a quest item, the Grog disappears on every new game cycle. Plus, keeping it requires the quest to still be active, which can be annoying if you’re a completionist like me.

Ultimately, the decision is up to you, but I find the reputation of Rubi as a kind of “poor man’s Grog Nozzle” to be… misguided. Rubi is just another great healing item. I’d bet you can make a usable (although definitely not incredible) endgame build that’s just four Rubis of different elements. You’d definitely need a way to regenerate ammo (especially if you’re soloing digistruct peak or raid bosses), but you’d be really, *really* hard to kill.

Out of all the games which was improved the most after all the dlcs and patches I'd personally say 3 or 2

Found it very odd they killed off such nothing characters in the new dlc I legit had to look up who pickles was and Earl is a more known but still seems pointless to kill off

Until Wonderlands our only melee options were bladed guns or action skills that gave us special melee abilities or attacks. Wonderlands introduced melee weapons that had their own slot and changed the behavior of our base melee attacks such as improving damage, changing swing speed, adding elements, and giving unique bonuses to melee such as action skill cooldown or lifesteal. As an initial implementation in a non-mainline game I thought they were pretty cool and a welcome addition, they are certainly better than not having them in my opinion. They did not return in 4 though which to me was actually a bit of a head scratcher. Melee weapons have been a long requested addition to the series and with Wonderlands they began experimenting with it but for 4 it was just completely left out. The system wasn't perfect but was certainly something to keep iterating on. Were they a failure? Did people not like them and not want them to return? How does the community feel about them now? Personally I would love to have melee weapons added to the game, maybe they could be actual weapons in our slots and come with a third person perspective or something. Would really like to see melee weapons more explored.
