CRF300L starter relay switch problem

Hey everyone,

Ran into a weird electrical issue with my CRF300L this morning and could use some help diagnosing it.

Turned the key, dash lit up like normal. But when I hit the starter button, the starter relay just clicks super fast (like a machine gun) and the lights dim heavily. There's definitely a massive voltage drop because the dash actually resets itself every time I try.

We tried to bump start it. It took a lot of effort but it finally fired up. However, it runs absolutely terrible—the idle is super rough, it won't hold RPMs properly, and the dash lights (including the ABS indicator) keep flashing like crazy.

What I've checked so far:

Battery: I thought it was a dead battery right away, but I tried swapping it with another known good battery and got the exact same result.

Fuses: Checked them all, none of them are blown.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

Any advice?

Thanks

NBD!

Woke up this morning with a wild hair. I decided that I NEEDED a 300L. Too bad no one has one. So I got a 26 Rally instead. It's slower than just about everything on the road but a lot of fun offroad!

First real ride on the Rally

I went on my first real ride on the Rally today. I rode about 150 miles. First off, my butt is sore! That seat is not all that comfortable. After my ride, I hopped on my Transalp to run to the grocery store, and I have to say that I really appreciate the comfort seat on the TA. Second, the bike did fine on the little bit of single track I hit today, but I had so much more fun on the logging roads.

TST flush mount signals

Kicked my taillight off swinging a leg over. Shouldn’t happen anymore. Happy to see those giant factory lights gone.

New to the gang

Hello everyone, I’ll start off with my motorcycle resume.
2011-2003 Buell XB9R ~3,000 miles
2011 to 2013-2009 Buell 1125CR ~17,000 miles
2015 to 2016-2015 Yamaha FZ-07 ~10,000 miles
2016-2015 Honda Grom ~300 miles (long life changing story)
2017 to 2019-2017 Yamaha FZ-07 ~26,000 miles
2019 to 2022-2019 Yamaha Super Ténéré ES ~36,000 miles
2022 to 2024-2022 Yamaha MT-07 (I like these) ~14,000 miles
2024 to still own-2023 Yamaha FJR1300 ES 13,900 currently
Tomorrow-2026 Honda CRF300L Rally

So that’s all the bikes I’ve owned/currently own plus the miles I’ve put on them. Add another ~5,000 or so I’ve done on bikes I didn’t own.

Most of my riding has been on the road with about 2-5% of it being on dirt roads or stone.

I liked the idea of an enduro and was looking at small displacement for a little while until I discovered the 300 Rally about a week ago and it checked off what I was looking for (basically a lighter version of my Super Ténéré). I’m in Central New Jersey and I know there are plenty of trails around the Pines down south. I’m excited to get into a new side of riding and build my skills there.

Wind buffeting is driving me nuts

'25 rally

The wind buffeting on this is getting pretty old and has become my primary fatigue point.

I'm 5'6" with the 2" lower seat from SRC

It feel like no matter how I sit, my helmet is stuck in a turbulent air stream. It shakes my head back and forth, it gives me a headache, it blurs my vision, and is incredibly loud no matter the hearing protection - actually worse with better hearing protection. It's like bone conduction... It's bizarre.

So like... I understand this isn't exactly a touring bike. My expectations are tapered. I expect I'll get blown around, I expect I won't have a lot of power, I expect to not be able to go quick without the front end getting light. But at the same time, I feel like that there has to be a solution for smoothing out the turbulence going over my head.

I get that turbulence is a complex system and there might be a lot of guess and check here. But I'm curious if anyone's found any ways of reducing or mitigating this?

Some observations I have:

  • Standing on the bike is actually pretty smooth over the helmet
  • Tucking in to the point of touching my chin to the tank improves a little, but nothing substantial
  • I noticed a LOT of air coming up behind the windshield from around the fork area, between the plastics and the gauge display

Items on the bike:

  • Front light bar above fender, below headlights
  • Nav tablet above the speedometer
  • Stock side mirrors
  • Bark buster guards

Ideas... Maybe?

  • No windscreen
  • Larger windscreen
  • Bellows of some sort to seal off the air stream around the fork area... Though I'm not sure if this would make the front end lighter at speed?
  • Removing plastics on the bike. Maybe less frontal area?
  • Removing skid plate
  • Clip on wind screen lip
  • Edging on wind screen (this stuff)
  • Remove side mirrors
  • Remove grip guards
  • Remove front tire fender
  • Cant the bike further forward by slipping the forks up on the clamps

SO yeah tl;dr my noggin is turned into a bobble head from turbulent air and I'm curious if anyone has found any known helpers for this

2026 Aux power port

Hey all,

I’ve bought 2 different plugs that are supposedly compatible with the auxiliary power plug behind the left fairing, but neither are a match. They both said they were compatible up to 2025 so I rolled the dice. Did the plug style change in 2026? I’ve included pics of the plug with the fairing removed. Can any 2026 owners confirm that they found a plug that fits so that other devices can be wired to the ignition and point me to that part?

Thanks - Eric

Fork seals shot?

Might be an obvious answer but the fluid leaking all over the front brake isn’t brake fluid but fluid from the forks, right?
