Poor customer service and conflicting explanations

The customer service has honestly been extremely disappointing. I went into the store today to speak to the manager, but I felt that he completely dismissed everything I was saying rather than actually listening to my concerns.

The staff member who graded my iPhone 17 told me three times over the phone that there was no charging cable in the box. The manager then told me that there actually was a cable, but that it wasn’t an official Apple cable. This is not what I was told previously, and I know I put the original Apple cable in the box.

I asked to see the cable when I was in the store because that would have cleared the whole issue up, but I wasn’t shown it. I don’t understand why I couldn’t simply see the cable that was supposedly in the box.

I also felt very uncomfortable with how the situation was handled in the store. Security were called even though I was simply trying to discuss the issue and wasn’t raising my voice or trying to cause a scene. I felt the manager was the one becoming agitated, while other staff were walking past and looking at me as though I had done something wrong.

The phone was downgraded from A grade and around €30 was deducted. I was also unclear that the final amount being discussed included the AirPods, as this wasn’t made clear to me in the messages. I understood the agreed amount to be for the iPhone 17.

I’m not claiming I can prove exactly what happened to the cable or the phone while they were in the store, but the conflicting explanations I’ve received have seriously undermined my trust in how my items were handled.

I believe the iPhone 17 should have been graded A, and I would appreciate the €30 difference relating to the AirPods being reconsidered. More than anything, I would have appreciated straightforward communication and being treated with respect when I came into the store to raise a legitimate concern.

Cex Warranty question

Bought an MSI 180hz curved monitor from CeX in store on 11th June 2025 for £80.

It’s now got permanent burn in of the Windows logo in the bottom left. It’s been like that for about 6 months and it’s definitely not temporary image retention.

I’ve lost the physical receipt unfortunately, but I did a SAR with CeX a while back and I’ve got the transaction showing the date and £80 price, as well as the order number, serial number and box ID.

Would this be enough for a warranty claim? Has anyone had experience returning something to CeX without the physical receipt but having all the transaction details?

Also, would burn in on a monitor be covered by the warranty?

Just wondering what people’s experiences are before I take it back.

CeX won’t take my ps5 because of the disk drive

I recently tried to trade in my console and they tested it and gave me a call back only to say that it keeps crashing when they tested it. They said they believe it is an issue with the disc drive but I’m unaware how it would have degraded so much especially since all my games are digital and I’ve not used the disc drive in a couple of years.

I saw others online saying to get them to repair it, however it doesn’t seem like this is an option at my local store. I guess I’ll just sell it privately but wondering if anyone else had a similar issue?

What does boxed mean?

I'm thinking about trading some stuff in and getting a Switch 2.

Only issue is that I'm looking at Boxed and does that mean it won't have scratches. I'm fine with it being 2nd hand but at £345 I wouldn't want it damaged.

Hey guys,

Just placed in an game for delivery not too long ago but due to the arrival date, I might cancel it just because of me needing the game before the arrival date due to achievements that will become available after August 30th.

So just had a few questions:

Is there a way to cancel deliveries? Do I just fill out the query form about my order in the email?

Is there an cost to cancel it?

Can I cancel it 1 day before delivery and have no consequences + a full refund?

Thanks in advance guys!

Will the Switch 2 prices be affected when retail prices go up?

Hi, I’m considering buying a Switch 2 at the moment. I currently have £295 in vouchers that I can use towards it. I’m also aware that retail prices for the Switch 2 are about to go up in September due the hardware shortage we got going on recently.

So my ultimate question is…

Will the Switch 2 prices at CEX go up when the retail prices go up in September? Is right now the right time to buy?

Laptop selling

Resetting a Lenovo laptop that is on Microsoft. The issue is to get to the homepage, you need an account. If I sign in to the laptop, then obviously it has my account and Cex requires it to be wiped because of GDPR.

So, can I still sell it to them if I just leave it at the WiFi stage and they will have to sign in with I'm guessing a store account to get to the homepage of the laptop?

CeX grading / missing cable issue — am I being unreasonable?

I sold an iPhone 17 256GB to CeX recently. The phone was basically mint. I had a screen protector and case on it since I bought it and there were no scratches that I could see. I put it in the original box along with the original Apple charging cable.
After waiting about 4 days, I was told the phone had been downgraded from A to B because of “wear and tear” and because there was supposedly no charging cable in the box. This knocked about €30 off the original offer.
I rang the guy who graded it because I was confused about the cable. He told me multiple times that there was no cable in the box. I told him I definitely put the Apple cable in there and asked what happened to it. He basically said it wasn’t there and that he’d have to check the cameras.
Then when I went into the store to speak to the manager, I got a completely different explanation. The manager said there actually was a cable in the box, but apparently it wasn’t the official Apple one. I know for a fact I put the original Apple cable in there.
I asked if I could see the cable they were talking about because surely that would clear the whole thing up, but I wasn’t shown it.
The whole thing has just left me feeling really suspicious because I’ve now been given two different explanations. I’m not saying I can prove someone took the cable or damaged the phone, but I know what I handed over and I know the condition it was in.
I went into the store to try to discuss it with the manager and it turned into a pretty unpleasant interaction. He seemed more interested in the fact that I’d called the staff member a “scumbag” in a text when I was pissed off about the situation than actually discussing why I was getting completely different explanations about the cable. Security ended up being called even though I wasn’t shouting or trying to cause a scene.
I’ve made a formal complaint with CeX and left a review, but I’m curious what other people’s opinions are. Am I being unreasonable here, or would you also be questioning what happened to the cable and why the explanation changed?

Which iPad?

I've been looking at the M3 iPad Air for digital art (upgrading from a 2017 iPad Pro), and I am not sure on the difference between A Grade and B Grade based off the descriptions.

What is usually the difference? And would it be better for me to get an A Grade?

So traded in a bunch of blu rays for £90 voucher

Problem is that there’s nothing good to buy in my local CEX 😢 hardly any 4k blu rays and the ones I do want are £20! Games are overpriced too. What can I do with my voucher?

How does CEX verify what was sold?

In a prebuilt pc I purchased the description and title is just 2TB SSD. But doesn't specify the brand or even type of SSD. So could be a nvme or could be a 2.5 drive for example. Given there is no name on my purchase how would they verify this if I was claiming on the warranty etc. or furthermore things like the mother board and power supply or case are all not added in my purchase description so how do they warranty this? If I take it back in a new case with a different motherboard what would stop me? It's very confusing

Console failed testing.

Hi, I recently bought an Xbox one x from CeX not even 2 weeks ago. Since then my wife has bought me an Xbox series x so I have no need for the one x.

I took it into my local CeX yesterday to sell and I’ve received an email today saying it’s failed the testing due to a missing warranty seal.

The warranty seal was missing when I purchased the console and I assumed this was because the console was a discounted grade?

Where do I stand with this issue? Obviously they won’t accept it but then at the same time I’m trading the console back to them in the same condition I received it in. Would I be able to dispute this and get a refund for the console?

Getting items delivered as a tourist

Going to be visiting London soon from Ireland and anytime I'm over I always pop into as many CeXs as a I can.

However often an item I'm looking for is in a CeX somewhere else in the UK, the unfortunately don't deliver to Ireland (at least according to CEX staff I've asked here).

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience in getting some items delivered somewhere that I could pick up at my convenience when I came to visit. Like a parcel hotel or a pod for example.

Does CEX still honour receipts that said they would expire in 3000~?

I've just discovered an old receipt for credit at CEX that I got around 2012, which says it would expire in 3012. It's a little aged, but I can still see the amount I would be credited for and the expiry.

Do they still honour these credits? It's not a lot of money but it would be nice for a few small purchases if it still is honoured.

TIA!

Faulty products

So I went to my local cex (swindon) on Saturday bought a couple games and a new ps4 pad got home,) and had problems connecting, it didn't want to connect or stay connected so I returned it to exchange it Sunday the one they gave me didn't work full stop. I went straight back to the store to exchange it for the second time the one I received felt a little edgy yano how 3rd party ones feel this one worked. For about a hour and a half then it shut off but as I was in the

MIddle of raiding a machine gun nest the vibration carried on with the whole pad gone dark, this carried on until around 3 am where I guess the battery gave up I then went to play today and the control froze while still on but wouldn't accept any input now I'm

Not happy at all after 3 different controllers which were meant to be tested before they bought them I went in today with it tried to explain amd ended up with this horrible little woman who is always rude amd acts like everything she has to do in her job is asking to much I tried to explain about the issue and she's acting like the problem is me trying to return faulty hardware toys creating a issue about the serial jibber not being the one listed on receipt until I pointed to the guy who helped me yesterday amd he clarifyed he'd just straight swapped which was taken with a eye roll then said it had to have a warranty test to which it comes back that it had stick drift ? I finally received a refund but none of this should of happened in the first place I wanted a wrong controller do I have grounds to make a complaint?

Thanks
