Cex doesnt accept disc that doesnt have age ratings on them anymore.

Went to my local CEX to do trade ins and when the disc is fine and no scratches, person behind the counter says "we can't take it because it doesn't have the official UK age rating on the disc" never had this before and they tell me it's brand new policy. I dunno if anyone else had this done to them, but I find it silly now, more and more ways for them not to take your stuff.

CeX ‘double punishment’ trade-in?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice/input from staff or people who trade a lot. I feel like I’ve been majorly done over here.

I left a bunch of stuff for testing, including a Gears of War 5 Edition Xbox One X (had the original special edition box and power cable, but no controller or HDMI). I accepted a bulk total over the phone without an itemised breakdown. When they emailed me the receipt, I saw they valued the console + box at just £50 total.

Is it standard policy to penalise someone twice for the same missing item? Dropping the grade because of no controller, and then charging retail price to replace that very same controller feels mad.

In the end I got a £50 voucher for the special edition console and original box (boxed was selling for £230 on their site, at the time). I emailed support to reverse this and they agreed but when I returned to the store I was told they had already discarded the original box so were only able to give me the bare console back. Staff told me to contact support again for compensation but support replied saying staff followed their policies correctly and reversing the console sale was a ‘gesture of good will’. Pretty annoyed to say the least.

EDIT: Thanks to those who cleared up the controller math - I get it now. Drop the grade because it's not the matching Gears controller, then subtract the fee to supply a generic one so they can sell it.

Got a faked SSD, will CEX accept a return?

Really annoyed. Ordered a 2TB Crucial P310 NVME because it was at a good price on their website. When it arrived the sticker on the NVME said 2TB, but when I plugged it in on a computer it showed just 1TB CrystalDiskInfo outed the drive as being the 1TB model.

I'm guessing someone glued a fake 2TB sticker on a 1TB NVME and sold it to CEX as if it was a 2TB one. Am I screwed or will CEX take it back?

Trading in a Nintendo DS Lite

Hello! I am looking to trade in my white Nintendo DS Lite for a voucher, will it still be taken without a charger?

The device itself looks fine, however I’m unsure if it definitely works as I am unable to charge it. I still have the original box, and the serial number on the bottom is still completely legible.

If I’m still able to trade it in, how much will be deducted from the store credit given?

iPhone IMEI blacklisted

I bought a Grade A iPhone 17 Pro Max from CEX in November 2025.
I’ve been travelling abroad since January and have been using a Vietnamese SIM and various eSIMs without any issues. I returned to the UK today, but when I inserted my UK SIM, it wouldn’t work. I also tried two different eSIMs, and neither worked.
I ran a CheckMEND report, which says: “Currently Blocked: The device has been reported lost or stolen to a phone network and will not function on some networks.”
I have no idea when the phone was blocked because it has worked perfectly throughout Asia. Today was the first time I discovered there was an issue. I also contacted my UK network provider, and they confirmed they were not the ones who placed the block.
If I take the phone back to CEX with my receipt, is this something they would refund or replace under their warranty? The phone was Grade A when I bought it, but I have since dropped it and it now has some scuffs around the sides. Would the cosmetic damage affect my claim?

Share price

Share price in Sony dropped 3% with the announcement they were stopping physical games in 2028.

This had a knock on effect for CEX who rely heavily on physical media to resell and their share price dipped 6%

This had a knock on effect on Monster energy drink who stand to lose millions if CEX cut staff due to reduced availability of physical media

Trade in not processed. No update

Hey folks. I'm having a bad time with cex Edinburgh, Cameron Toll. I made a post last week about a faulty laptop I bought from them. Having returned it, waited an hour to see if they could install required updates, I decided to spend an extra £350 for a better model. £800 spent.

I left £300 of items with them for trade in - money to be sent to my bank. No money arrived. It's been a week. No text, call or email although they confirmed they have my correct address.

It's a 3 hour drive. I'm really unwell - doctor says burn out from work. I'm going on holiday on Monday and I'm pretty sure the shopping centre is closed for the weekend due to roadworks or something.

Can anyone recommend any resolve besides drive back to them a 3rd time to complete this trade-in shitshow? Cheers!

Orders Keep Getting Cancelled

I traded in some items for a £160 voucher the other day.

Since then, I've tried to buy three different Chromebooks. All of which have been cancelled - one even made it to "Awaiting dispatch" instead of "Picking in progress"

Where do I go from here? Only reason I got the voucher was so I could get one of these. I've put in a fourth order, for yet another Chromebook, but I have no hope that this one will actually be fulfilled either.

All of the Chromebooks I've purchased have gone back in stock on the site after my orders have been refunded. One of them has had a price increase too.

How long does the picking in progress usually take?

For context I bought Crazy taxi 3 for the Xbox on the 1st of July and now being the 4th I would’ve thought it should have been dispatched by now.

Anyone else expecting the prices of physical games at cex to go up with the latest news of a digital future for gaming?

Just wanted to get others opinions, I'd assume that they may become more alluring to certain groups of gamers and therefore demand a higher price tag.

I can see atleast PS4 and PS5 games going up in price

Why is the minimum withdrawal amount on Binance $5 and more for every network on USDT?

It used to vary from network to network but it seems to be flat out $5 for every network now and I can't withdraw what I have on my account.

Oddly specific issue with series X advice

Hi guys, I bought a series X in Stratford CEX 2 days ago, it didn't work at all so I exchanged it for another yesterday. I got home, set it up and everything and it sounded like it was struggling a little and heated up quite quickly. I checked the top and it's really dusty inside and there's an old giant spider corpse in it. I do have really bad arachnophobia 😅 too. I was wondering, would I be able to request they clean it (not a deep clean, I know that isn't a service) I just mean the dust and spider specifically. Or would I have to get it exchanged again? It looks genuinely dirty inside and at this point I've already exchanged once and so I feel a bit awkward about it especially over something like that. But I don't want to go taking it apart or take it to a shop that takes it apart and then voids the warranty or anything.

I know I should've checked in the shop, but I ended up really ill on the journey so just wanted to rush home at that point, but that part is my bad regardless

CeX branding inconsistency

I've always found this weird:

It's CeX in spelling but pronounced "sex".

The branding is so odd that many people simply refuse to pronounce CeX as "sex" instead saying "C-E-X" or even "kex."

You hear this a lot in retro game pickup videos. Could be that they're trying to avoid YT algorithms, but to me saying "I bought it from Sex" feels awkward.

Clearly the branding isn't as natural as this company thinks it is.
