Made a friend today.

I grew up in Louisiana playing with cicada shells, but don't often get to see the little guy himself. I was working today when he just fell out of the sky, and landed on his back. He must have short circuited as I approached because his audio was stuck on screeeeeeeeeam. He stopped as soon as I picked him up and rode along with me to some trees (away from dogs at the residence where I found him). I set him on this little red oak, and went on with my day, but I can't stop thinking about him. Can anyone tell me if he looks ok? From what I have seen with image search, I believe he's called Megatibicen resh. TIA!

Cicadas are becoming one of my favorite bugs

Finding this one felt so special cause I had never held one before! I collect the shells and I pinned a dead one once but this one was alive and crawling on me with its cute lil face—I love these guys!!!

I believe this one is a swamp cicada found in SC

Lovely Cicada

Lovely Cicada I found wandering outside my porch, so I took the sweet thing down to my river incase he needed it. Just a year ago I had a similar encounter like this, and all these Cicadas lying around makes my heart heart 😕 love these silly little things and I'm glad I can be a friendly hand to the ones who need it on such a hot dog.

The most amazing thing I’ve ever seen…

I have been obsessed with cicadas my whole life. I never thought this moment would come, I never thought I would be able to witness this. I put on my headlamp, brought out a stool, and sat on the city corner to watch the whole show.
I watched this friend climb up as a nymph, saw the second his molt split, saw his head come out and then each leg until he gained a new sentience and crawled out of his shell. Incredible. I feel so blessed.

Candy the Cicada Dancer

Found a shell, and made this display!! I love cicada shells, and I love cicadas in general. I am going to start a themed display collection for them, any other ideas?

Rare mosaic lyric cicada

Found in downtown Olathe, KS by my daughter and I, Bailey and Jeff. The only blue is found at the base of the wings. Normal eyes and color except for that. AI said it is a mosaic genetic mutation. INaturalist skipped over it like it was nothing. I've been handling cicadas here since 1994. I've seen numerous species. Nothing like this!

Finally got the show off my tattoo to a cicada!!!

I did get a pic with a freshly molted on its shell like my tattoo but im short ane she was far up but yesterday i got to show a cicada up close! Cicadas are very important to me and mean so much for me. I will always remember see the first one when i was kid halfway out of its shell and i thought it was an alien of some sort. I have been collecting cicada shells my whole life i have over 600 shells, now with the ecosystem being shitty i dont get to find as many shells if any and i dont hear or see cicadas like I used to so getting to hold this lil guy and show him my tattoo was awesome and made my heart so happy! I love bugs so much!!

A timelapse of a cicada molting / trust-falling into a new life. (Sound on!)

You truly witness some amazing things when you slow down enough to pay attention to the world around you.

Enjoy this video I took of a Cicada molting into its final form - featuring some of the most green greens I’ve ever seen.

Have you ever witnessed a cicada molt? We find the shells everywhere but this was my first time seeing it in action. This planet continues to amaze me. 🌎

Cicada from the sky!

My partner and I were on our walk when a squirrel knocked something on his shoulder. He didn't think anything of it and brushed it off. When we got back in the house I saw a cicada on his shoulder! They're falling from the skies now 😂! I got it off as quick as I could and returned him to a nice tree outside.

A cicada molted in my hand

I had been holding the thing and it was just sitting there for a bit, I looked closer and it was molting! I googled what to do but it kept saying to not pick it up which wasn’t helpful because it was already in my hand so I just tried to av its wings so it could dry them properly. (I hate google ai its so unhelpful and dumb) its very green (Edit: also in case you were wondering, I named it tinkerbell even though I know it won’t stay green like that)

Nymph Rescue!✧˖°.

We helped this little buddy find its way onto a tree! It was so cool getting to see one in person finally, they are so interesting. We put it on a tree just above a different cicada's shell.

I went back around lunch to check on it and it had emerged safely (last photo is its shell)! I'm a bit sad I missed the process but I had exams to write this morning 😅
