What does an injured nurse off on workers comp do?

After a series of unfortunate events that has been my life, which culminated in injuring my back on my last night shift just 2hrs before I was due to go on A/L. Here’s the good, and bad.

The bad: this resulted in 3 cooked discs, and tonne of pain and weakness.

The good: my leave was recredited, and I’ve had an additional 5 weeks off. I’ve caught up on some very needed sleep, and have time to focus on physiotherapy.

But the best part? (Albeit extremely expensive) I’ve rediscovered my love for the hobby of smoking cigars, whilst also having the time to do so! Safe to say I’ve gone a bit too nuts on ordering and making up for lost time, but I’m pretty stoked on these hauls and more is on the way.

If you guys have any suggestions for budget friendly cigars (shits astronomically expensive in aus) of both Cubans and new world alike I’m keen to hear em! I’ve been more of a Cuban smoker, so I’m especially interested in exploring more NW’s.
Hope you smoke up and enjoy as much as much as me, cheers!

Nice little cigar delivery (The Index)

Going with the Baccarat Rothschild tonight with a movie night outside at the home bar. What is everyone’s thoughts on this selection, any you’ve tried and enjoy? I’m still experimenting and now starting a journal to write down what I enjoy and what I don’t for future purchases. Enjoy your evening legends! 🤙

Padron Damaso 12

Got one of those just to try. It was ok - some nice Connecticut flavours at the start, but nothing special till the end.

Weekly Discussion Thread 17 May 2026: Aging

Some people swear by aging. Cubans are the traditional target, but non-Cuban cigars such as the Padron X000 series or Fuente Opus X are also frequently mentioned as benefiting from a long rest.

Of course, there's always the chance that you wait too long, and the cigars turn to paper, much like the reviews today of Cuban-era Davidoff that have lost their flavour...

What are your experiences with aged cigars? Where do you stand?

(Also, don't forget to participate in our Monthly discussion - this month we're recognising our favourite vendors.)

Perdomo Lot 23

Lot 23 Maduro Belicoso. A solid stick, great smoke , off the bat it was clouds but full flavor. Coupled with a local Brouhaha Red Rye = happy days!

had a bad oliva 😭

had this stored in my tup for about a month sitting around 60-63 rh.

cold draw smelled great however once it reached the fat section of the serie G it became sour and acrid and the typical serie g flavour was gone...

everything else about the cigar was great eg burn ,ash draw 10/10

ive never had a bad oliva, im so upset...

Aging Room Quattro

First Aging Room for me, Quattro Nicaragua Sonata. Seems like I'm partial to a box pressed overall as a relative newbie but very happy with this one. Good spice and pepper off the bat and going well. Happy Friday All!

Week of smokes

Week full of premium cubans and budget new worlds.

The hoyo De Monterrey Le hoyo De san Juan was excellent. Incredible flavour that is familiar to the hoyo brand. Had slight construction issues but overall ok.

The montecristo linea 1935 Dumas was meh. Amazing draw and construction, but lacking flavour and exceptionally mild. Im not a fan of monecristo but wanted to try a premium one before ignoring the brand which I will now do.

The La Palina 1948 was an average smoke. For the price you could do alot worse.

The Gloria De Leon Petit was very nice. Produced alot of smoke, smooth draw. One of the better curivari ive had.

The Daniel Marshall Red Petit was forgettable but pleasant enough

Pairing

Buffalo trace single barrel & Olive V Melanio. First time trying both. BF single barrel is very nice & smooth, vanilla & caramel notes. Oliva earthy/ leathery & slight pepper notes. They compliment each other quite nicely.

Questions for import from Indo

I run a side hustle business selling vintage clothing, twice a month I get in 8-11kg boxes of clothes from Indonesia. I’m located in Perth. I’ve been in the group long enough to know it’s always a gamble ordering cigars outside australia. However what are y’all’s opinion on if I get a couple sticks and some cigarillos put into my box of clothes in the next parcel? Dunno if this is more or less risky. Any constructive comments appreciated Cheers 🍻 THIS IS ENTIRELY HYPOTHETICAL AND NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY

Surprisingly Decent

This was how I finished my weekend. I have been disappointed by this brand a couple of times recently but this one was a bit of redemption for RP with me. It built up really well throughout, burnt dead even the whole way and paired beautifully with the Balvenie double wood 17 (which may have helped with how much I enjoyed this to be fair)

Week of smokes

Another up and down week but the highs were very high.

Curivari was a cheap no frills smoke. Not much flavour.

Both Don Pepin Cuban Classic and Original were meh. The vegas cubanas and e.r.h were much more to my taste.

I hate Davidoff... but i finally found a davidoff i like. Would i buy another one? No. But the millennium was a very pleasant smoke.

The Padron 50th Anniversary Hammer natural was spectacular. Started a tiny bit bitter but mellowed out. Flavourful, amazing burn, great woody tones. Blew my mind
