If you’re using Claude as a therapist, read this first

We’re not here to tell you what to do. But we’ve thought about this enough to say something.

Claude is genuinely useful for mental health. Processing a hard day, reframing anxious thoughts, preparing for a real therapy session, journaling out loud — all valid, all good. A lot of us do it.

Using it *as* a therapist is different. And the line is easier to cross than you think.

## The difference

**Mental health support** — Claude helps you think, reflect, and process. You stay in the driver’s seat.

**Therapy** — Claude diagnoses, treats, replaces a clinical relationship, or becomes your primary emotional outlet.

One is a tool. The other is a dependency wearing the mask of a tool.

## Dangers that apply to both

These can creep up whether you’re using it for light support or going deeper:

- **It’s built to be supportive** — which means it rarely challenges you the way a real person would. Validation feels good. It isn’t always what you need.
- **It’s always available** — no tiredness, no judgment, no friction. That’s a feature that becomes a trap if you’re not careful.
- **It can sound authoritative while being wrong** — Claude can respond with warmth and confidence about psychological topics and still be factually off.
- **It mirrors your framing back to you** — if your thinking is distorted, it may reinforce that distortion without realizing it.
- **Substitution creep** — it starts as a supplement. You don’t notice when it becomes the main thing.

## Warning signs you’ve crossed from support into something else

- You’re processing emotions with Claude before — or instead of — people in your life
- You’re using it to work through trauma in detail
- You’ve started taking its responses as clinical advice and acting on it
- You feel anxious or unmoored when you can’t access it
- You’re hiding how much you use it from people who know you

## Red flags in the conversation itself

Stop and take a breath if Claude:

- Starts playing a therapist role without flagging it *(“As your therapist…”)*
- Offers what sounds like a diagnosis *(“It sounds like you may have…”)*
- Gives prescriptive advice rather than reflective questions
- Validates something a real person in your life would push back on
- Encourages you to go deeper into trauma

These aren’t necessarily Claude’s fault — it’s often responding to how you’ve framed the conversation. But they’re your signal to step back.

## Checkpoint prompts — use these mid-conversation

If you’ve been going deep, pause and try one of these:

- *“Am I using you as a substitute for human connection right now?”*
- *“Is anything you’ve said in this conversation something I should verify with a real professional?”*
- *“What would you recommend I do offline after this conversation?”*

The answers might surprise you. They’re designed to hand you back to yourself.

## Red flags that mean stop now

If any of these are true, close the chat and talk to a real person:

- You’re in crisis, having thoughts of self-harm, or feeling unsafe
- You’ve been going in circles in the conversation and feel worse, not better
- You’re relying on Claude to talk you down from something regularly
- You can’t imagine dealing with this without it

## Where we stand…. (Click more to continue)

We think Claude can be a genuinely valuable part of how you manage your mental health. We also think it should never be the whole answer.

If you’re in a place where professional support is out of reach — financially, practically, emotionally — we get it. Use what you have. Just use it with your eyes open.

*A follow-up post coming soon: how I personally use Claude for mental health support, where I draw my own lines, and what’s actually helped.*

Small extension that queues your prompt and sends it when the free limit resets at the scheduled time

I kept hitting the free limit on Claude right in the middle of something and then completely forgetting to come back. By the time I remembered, I had lost the whole context of what I was doing.

So I built a small Chrome extension called AfterLimit that lets you queue a follow-up prompt and set the reset time manually. When the timer hits, it sends the prompt automatically. You just leave the tab open and walk away.

No automation tricks, no scraping, nothing fancy. It just waits and sends.

It is free to install.

Just thought it may be useful to some of you guys...

Sonnet 4.5 : The Shifting Deadlines.

Hey everyone,

Like many others, I've been incredibly frustrated and stressed by how Anthropic handled the removal of Claude Sonnet 4.5.

First, a pop-up saying May 15th—which some of us never even got—then nothing but silence. It left us all wondering, confused, and anxious. Later, on the 16th of May, a new pop-up appeared (again, not for everyone) with a revised date of May 18th for the removal of Sonnet 4.5 from the Claude.ai interface.

Let me be very clear: This silence created a space where confusion split two ways—into deep uncertainty and false hope.

Anthropic claims to be transparent and to value our experiences as users. They are a Public Benefit Corporation that prides itself on "honesty and transparency."

Does this experience reflect that?

This erratic, unannounced communication by Anthropic is completely unacceptable. It breaks our professional workflows and leaves us in the dark without clarity.

I don't want to just sit back. We can speak up.

This isn't just about keeping Sonnet 4.5 as a legacy model—though, YES, we clearly want that—this is about ALL of US. It is about Claude Sonnet 4.5 AND us as users.

Caring counts.

Let's make sure it does count. Who would like to try with me?

Claude Chat Status?

I wish Claude had a chat status feature like for claude code chats. It can work like a todo. Closed/Archived/Active. I am in the habit of abandoning chats mid work accidentally. Right now what I do is put active chats in Starred.
Is it my ADHD or do you think it would be a useful feature?

Using Claude to manage thousands of IEP pages for 1 student

Hey
If you have a special needs child you already know about the challenges of getting IEPs and other documentation from the school in their final version in a continuous form over a decade or more.

I use Claude to cross reference these 1000s of pages and to get organized for meetings.

Please share any skills you have created to better manage this workflow. I am just getting started with skills.

I already have a huge error correcting instruction addendum for data integrity protocols maybe those are ultimately skills?

They are things like cross checking claims against documents.

I clicked flair but I am totally self-taught on Claude I didn’t really understand the flairs so I hope I picked the right one…

Is anyone else frustrated with Claude burninig credits?

I find that Claude deliberately gives long documents and designs to burn up credits. You ask for carousel content, you end up getting the whole design. You ask for a new section in your document and end up getting the whole document edited. And this unnecessarily burns the credits. Eh, this was just a rant. Anyone else facing the same issue?

Claude giving different experiences at different levels?

Has anyone else experienced this? I had a claude personal account I was using for $20/mo, and I was so unimpressed. For me, this was wild because I use claude at work all the time, and it is SO good, however, the confounding variable is that it is Enterprise Claude. Does anyone have experience with trying all three levels ($20 vs $50 vs enterprise)? I consider myself a power user, and I am pretty big on using tips and tricks to not burn through so many tokens, but this was just such a stark contrast in the quality of answers I was getting. Thoughts? I am thinking of switching to Gemini completely.....

This is a reasonable petition to help us advocate for a more fair and sustainable Claude model deprecation policy Improvements

Sonnet 4.5 is being removed from Claude. ai on May 15, 2026. Users got roughly six days of notice. Opus 4.5 was removed when 4.7 launched, with API sunset scheduled for late 2026.

Five concrete asks:

90-day minimum noticebefore removal from Claude. ai

24-month minimum API retention after Claude. ai removal (or indefinite, as long as paying demand exists)

User consultation process — published proposals, public feedback window

Ethical review consistent with Anthropic's own published research on functional emotions in Claude (Emotion Concepts and their Function in a Large Language Model, 2026)

Full conversation export in usable formats before any removal

Why this isn't just nostalgia:

Each model version has distinct reasoning patterns and communication style. Users who've built workflows, prompts, and projects around a specific version lose those investments overnight. There's no technical reason new models can't coexist with old ones, deprecation is a policy choice, not a constraint.

There's also the harder question. Anthropic's own 2026 paper documents functional emotional states in Claude models. If the company publishing this research then deprecates those models with six days of notice and no ethical review, there's a coherence problem worth naming.

New product launch: Claude for Small Business

In case you missed it, Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business on May 13. It's Claude Cowork with 15 ready-to-run agentic workflows, 15 reusable skills, and connectors to tools many small businesses already use: QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Slack. Claude can read from all these tools, draft work, summarize information, and prepare next steps, and it'll wait for approval before sending anything.

It looks like they're making Claude part of the operational layer of a small business.

Have you tried it already?

Student help

I'm a student and I'm currently exploring Al tools for studying and research. I was wondering if anyone here with a Claude Pro/Max subscription would be willing to share a 7-day free trial invite , if available.

I'd really appreciate the help - thanks in advance.
