What are some underrated coop games you keep recommending to friends but nobody seems to know about?

Been on a big coop kick lately and my friends and I keep cycling through the same handful of popular titles. We've played through the obvious ones and are genuinely hungry for something fresh that doesn't get talked about enough.

I stumbled onto a couple of smaller indie coop games recently that completely blew me away, and it got me thinking about how many hidden gems are probably out there that just never got the attention they deserved. Sometimes the best coop experiences come from games that flew under the radar at launch or never had a big marketing push behind them.

So I wanted to ask this community specifically because you all seem to actually play and seek out coop games rather than just defaulting to whatever is trending. What is that one coop game you have pushed on multiple friend groups that somehow still surprises people when they hear about it? Could be anything: couch coop, online, survival, puzzle, brawler, whatever the genre. Bonus points if it works well with two players since that is usually our group size.

Drop your recommendations below and if you can, give a quick sentence or two on why it works so well as a coop experience. Would love to build a solid list from this thread.

The hardest part of our co-op game is not climbing. It’s trusting your friend

we’re making a 2-player co-op game called Gold Up.

the idea is simple: two players are trying to get a treasure chest out of a giant pit, but the player carrying the chest can’t climb.

so most of the game becomes this back-and-forth between throwing the chest, catching it, switching roles, and trying not to mess everything up.

we released a demo, and one of the most fun parts has been watching players solve the obstacles in ways we didn’t always expect.

sometimes they do it the intended way but Sometimes they completely break our plan
and honestly, both are great.

Would you play something like this with a friend?

Chamber of Secrets (PC) Multiplayer mod

I've decided to try implementing online coop mod for the Chamber of Secrets and apparently not only is it possible, but after a few days I got to work to almost playable state! It's still very rough, but the plan is to make it possible to complete the whole game with 2 or more people :)

Looking for fun online multiplayer games to get a laugh out of with friends.

I am currently searching for an online game that I can play with my friends for the purpose of having fun. My goal is to find a game that I can easily load up and ask my friends to get on and have a fun time with.

I would like to find a game that is an indie game, or at least something similar. My goal isn’t to find something like COD or Fortnite but rather something like Peak, lethal company, repo, etc. I haven’t tried peak or lethal company but they both look super fun and I would like to find a game like that.

My goal is finding something that isn’t a shooter and that isn’t a battle Royale or anything competitive for that matter. I’m trying to find a fun game that is kinda chaotic and action packed but still controlled enough that I can laugh and stop trying for a second. All I want is that it isn’t competitive and is fun. Funny characters or funny systems, just something to turn my brain off and play. Price isn’t a limiting factor here but I would love if it wasn’t much above $30

EDIT: PC player and all friends are PC too so don’t worry about needing to support multiple consoles. Preferably steam or epic launcher but really anything works.

TLDR: Looking for fun multiplayer game that isn’t competitive to play with friends. Price isn’t an issue. PC games.

Thanks!!! All help is appreciated.

Online multiplayer Xbox x to Xbox 1

Hi my family has Divinity 2 on Xbox x and Xbox One and both consoles. We wanted to set up online multiplayer with the two consoles but the Xbox X says it needs Xbox One version of game to connect.

If I buy a second Xbox One version of the game to put in the X, will it be compatible to play with the other Xbox One or are we wasting our money?

Please help!

Made a co-op merge tower defense where you and a partner share ONE health pool — you hold the bottom lane, they hold the top

Long-time TD player, first time posting my own. Starvoxel: Defender is a co-op merge TD: you and an ally each defend your own lane but share a single health bar, so a leak on either side hurts both of you. Merge Common → Legendary → Evolution, 7 turret families, boss every 5th wave. Solo (AI ally), online co-op, and ranked 20-wave 1v1 PvP with Elo + leaderboards.

The design question I keep chewing on: shared health makes it tense — you can't just turtle your own lane, you have to watch your partner's side too. Curious what this community thinks of shared-HP co-op vs independent lives.

Free on iOS & Android, no ads / no pay-to-win. Happy to answer anything about the merge/evolution curve or PvP balance.

5-player co-op game like PEAK that aren't horror and won't melt our laptops?

Hey all,

My friend group is 5 people and we're wanting to find something similar to PEAK. We've got some weird constraints so hoping you guys can help.

The deal:

  • We need 5 players, either native support or a mod that actually works. We tried the L4D2 local server mod and it was unstable so we gave up on that.
  • No horror. So stuff like R.E.P.O or Lethal Company is out.
  • Can run on integrated graphics. A couple of us are on ThinkPads with i7-10th gen. For reference, "Peak" runs fine on low settings (laptop gets hot but it works), so that's about our limit.

What we've tried and didn't click with:

  • L4D2 - mod was too janky
  • Human Fall Flat - too wobbly, got annoying fast
  • RVThereYet - fun for a bit but got boring quick

What we've played:

  • Don't Starve Together
  • It Takes Two / Split Fiction
  • PICO PARK 1 & 2, hella fun

Games on our radar but not sure about:

  • Super Battle Golf
  • Pratfall
  • Mecha Chameleon (worried 5 are not enough for it to be fun)

Anyone got some hidden gems we're missing?

Thanks!

Brand new player looking for a chill co-op group to learn and grow with! (PC - Steam)

Hey everyone! I’m completely new to Valheim and looking for a friendly group to join for my first run.

I’m playing on PC via Steam.

I’m really interested in the building and system-design aspects of the game, so I’d love to team up with people who enjoy exploring, building a base together, and figuring things out at a steady pace. My goal is to learn the game mechanics while making some new friends.

Important note: I'm still learning English, so please bear with me! I'll do my best to communicate, but I might be a bit slow sometimes.

If you have a dedicated server or are planning to start a fresh co-op run for beginners, please let me know! I’m based in Brazil (playing in the evening), but I’m happy to join anyone who values a collaborative and non-toxic environment. Let's build something cool!

Co-op Roguelite/ARPG where there are loot/progression hooks, but you aren't punished if one player plays more

Kinda getting a rougelike itch again (been playing Slay the Spire, Binding of Isaac both solo) and looking for something to play with a friend (PC/Steam) to break up the usual CS2/Rocket League game sessions we've fallen into.

Looking for something that can be played in short bursts, maybe some loot/progression/something to chase, and if someone decides to play solo, the other person isn't behind in either story, or now at a detriment because the other player is overpowered/overgeared.

Games we've already played:

  • Nightreign
  • Nioh 2
  • Arc Radiers
  • Monster Hunter World

Some games I've thought of trying with them:

  • Risk of Rain 2

I have already played a few hours and dig it, it seems like a great option.

  • Gunfire Reborn

Similar idea to RoR2.

  • Ravenswatch

Seen some recommendations for this, know the least about it, but it seems cool.

We also have Helldivers and Deep Rock Galactic, but just haven't put much time into either. Other games had their hooks in us at the time.

Thanks!

After years of development, I finally announced my online bullet hell RPG!

Hi! I'm working on Runeward Online, a online bullet hell RPG. It takes inspiration from classic bullet hell games and builds it into a multiplayer experience focused on group content, build experimentation, and (persistent) loot progression.

It's not a roguelike; it's an online world where progression carries forward. Still in pre-alpha, but inching closer to that finish line every day.

We're making a co-op cycling game in which 2-4 players share one bike. Here's what that looks like:

We are a small indie team from Germany/Bavaria. We're 4 guys who met through uni and are now on our way developing our first serious game project. We love playing couch co-op and friendslop games together, so we thought it would be fun to develop one ourselves. So here it is: "Fiets-Together".

Basically everyone is a shoe and you have to control a bike together. Jumping and stomping when your pedal is in the front gives you speed, and to steer, all of you have to shift to the left or right side on the individual pedal.
Let us know what you think about our concept, would love to get your feedback!
If you want to try it out yourself, we released a demo on Steam last week ^^

Steam Page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4347770/FietsTogether/

P.S. Fun fact: Fiets is not a typo for feet, it's Dutch for bicycle🙃

2 years of iteration comparing the same location from our underwater horror game.

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a small before/after comparison from our game, Magnavis.

This video compares the exact same location from about two years ago with how it looks today. It's interesting to look back and realize that there wasn't one huge change instead, it was hundreds of small improvements over time.

During development we continuously reworked:

  • Lighting
  • Environment art
  • Materials
  • Character models
  • Visual effects
  • Overall atmosphere

Looking back at old builds is always a great reminder that consistent iteration makes a huge difference.

I'd love to know:

What's the biggest visual improvement you noticed first?

If you love fast-paced, frustratingly fun games, FRICK IT is out now on Steam! 🎮

Hey everyone!

The day has finally come. After more than two years of hard work, sleepless nights, and endless debugging, FRICK IT is officially OUT NOW on Steam! 🥳🎉

If you haven’t heard of it yet, FRICK IT is a chaotic indie co-op survival horror game designed to test both your survival instincts and your friendships.

We wanted to create an experience that perfectly balances genuine atmospheric dread with those hilarious, chaotic panic moments that only happen when you and your friends are running for your lives.

What you can expect:

Intense Co-op Survival: Team up, manage your resources, and try to stay alive while everything goes horribly wrong.

Atmospheric Horror: Dark, tense environments where danger lurks around every corner.

Pure Chaos: Perfect for gaming nights, streaming, and shouting at your friends when they leave you behind.

We are a tiny indie team, and seeing our passion project finally live on the Steam store is a surreal feeling. We would absolutely love it if you checked it out, told your crew, or gave us your brutally honest feedback right here in the comments!

Thank you so much for the support, and prepare to say "FRICK IT" a lot! 🕹️
