My little travel companion. It makes every journey better.

After years of traveling, I’ve learned that a good cup of coffee can make any place feel a little more like home. ☕️
What’s your favorite travel coffee setup?

QR menus should be optional, not the only way to order

QR ordering can be genuinely useful when it loads quickly, works without an app or account, and lets a café update items or prices without reprinting everything.

But it becomes frustrating when the QR code is the only option. A dead battery, poor signal, glare, accessibility needs, or simply not wanting to use a phone shouldn't prevent someone from seeing a menu or placing an order.

The best setup seems complementary: keep a clear paper or overhead menu, then offer QR ordering as an optional second channel for customers who want it.

For café owners and staff: when has QR ordering actually improved service, and when has it created more work?

Full disclosure: I'm building restaurant-ordering software, so I have a bias. The strongest operator feedback I've heard so far is that customer choice matters more than the technology.

In Dhanbad, Jharkhand for a quick work trip and stumbled into this place. What are your absolute must-order items here (or nearby)?

I’m in town for a few days handling some client work and was looking for a decent spot to grab a coffee and unwind after hours. Stopped by Mocha and was really impressed by the interior aesthetic, the warm lighting, vintage tiles, and cozy seating are top tier.

Since I'm visiting for work and don't know the local food scene too well...

  • For those who frequent Mocha: What is the ONE dish or beverage on their menu that is really good?
  • Are there any other hidden gem cafes or local dinner spots in Dhanbad I should check out before heading back?

Would love your recommendations!

Egg coffee at Little Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Got some egg coffee and mango toast with me at Little Hanoi in Ho Chi Minh City today.

The coffee was nice, but not as hot as I'd like. The "mango toast" was a bit underwhelming because I kinda expected more than just "mangoes on toast," that's kinda on me ig. Still worth a try if you get the chance, the coffee especially.

52 Coffee & Roasters in Malang, Java, Indonesia

I wanted to give a huge shout out to this place.

Recently opened and has an insane variety of both local Javanese beans, other Indonesians, and some imported as well (Yemen, Columbia, etc.).

There are lots of experimental, funky processes and they plan to compete in the 2027 WOC in Japan.

Danyal took his time discussing his beans, chatting about life in general, and helping me find a good cup.

He is extremely kind, generous and chill.

Definitely recommend for those in Indonesia thirsting for a quality cup, check out their Exotic Java series from which I drank.

I ended up having a V60 of the Prau natural secret project (name aside, tasted incredible) and the Sindoro Lavender Wash, which was even better and I consider it one of the best cups I've had.

Sorry for the shabby quality of the pictures, I was jittery from coffee.

I invested all my savings into a coffee shop, and I’m terrified it’s going to fail. I really need advice.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for honest advice from people who have experience running cafés or small businesses.
Last month, I opened a coffee shop after investing **all of my savings** and also using my **credit card** to help fund it. This has been my dream, but right now I’m really worried. it’s in a neighbourhood where there are other takeaway cafes with no seating area. my cafe is 60m2. amazing colors. best quality food and coffee.
At the moment, we’re only making around **£50 a day**, but we need to make at least **£200 a day** just to cover our operating costs. At this rate, we’re losing money every day.
One of our biggest problems is **waste**. We end up throwing away food and desserts that don’t sell, and I know that’s hurting us financially.
Another issue is coffee calibration. Our baristas calibrate the espresso machine every morning, and it usually takes around **five shots of coffee** before they’re happy with the settings. That means we’re throwing away several coffees every single day just for calibration. Is this normal? Is there a better way to reduce this waste while still maintaining quality?
I’d really appreciate any advice on:
How to increase daily sales.
Ways to reduce food and coffee waste.
Whether using around five shots to calibrate each morning is standard practice or if we’re doing something wrong.
Any mistakes you made when your café first opened that you wish you’d known sooner.
I’m feeling overwhelmed because I’ve put everything into this business, and I really want to make it work. Any advice or suggestions would mean a lot.
Thank you.
