Should I buy or run? and what could the problem be?

Update: it’s someone else’s problem now after we had a time and place to meet set up. Got there and he ghosted me after I drove almost 2 hours to meet him and then listed it as sold while I was sitting there😂 Seller says he’s pretty sure it’s locked up and that it’s not the starter but I offered 750 and he said I could have it. Just needing some help making a decision on buying or not and what the problem could be.

Just changed the oil on my bike and checked out the filter, I feel like this is not normal

Just joined the DRZ club!

Picked up a 2000 with 20k miles for $1,600 today. My first dirt-capable bike, been a street rider for about 15 years and decided to give the San Diego desert a try this winter.

She needs a little work but nothing crazy. Only getting 12v from the stator, so the new battery eventually dies but it starts right up after a trickle charge. I read about the free power mod and disconnecting the kickstand cutoff sensor, which I’m planning to do.

Just bought my first ever motorcycle, a 2000 Suzuki DR-Z400S! I’m pretty new to motorcycles and want to make sure I take good care of it. What are the most important things I should be checking and maintaining regularly? Any tips, common problems, does she sound okay i spent 1700 dollars on this

DRZ400 suddenly locked up at 90 km/h – what could have caused it?

2005 DRZ400, around 25k km.

For the last ~20 km before it failed I noticed the bike had slightly more engine braking than usual, like something was creating extra resistance. A week earlier I also had one moment on the highway where the bike suddenly slowed down hard for about a second, then went back to normal.

Today at around 90 km/h In highway I suddenly lost power and the rear wheel seemed to lock up hard enough to throw the bike sideways. I probably pulled the clutch immediately after.

Now the bike rolls normally in neutral or with the clutch pulled, but with any gear engaged and clutch released the rear wheel won't turn, even with the spark plug removed.

Any ideas what most likely failed? Engine seizure, gearbox/bearing, piston/crank, or something else? And could the increased engine braking beforehand indicate what was starting to fail?
