u/pk4570 wins the contest with a 1926 buffalo nickel!

17 people guessed 1926 and the winner was selected by myself writing a list of all the guesses in random order and having my 5 year old pick a number 1 through 17. He chose 16 for no reason!

I ended up finding 4 W quarters (no silver) in the 8,000 quarters searched. 2x Weir, 1 River of no Return and a very grimy Bat! 🦇

I'll be giving away all of the W quarters I found because that's only fair. I said you could substitute your guess for a W design and all 3 designs I found were guessed. I really wasn't expecting 1,500+ guesses for this game but I love it!

Only 1 person guessed the Weir Farm design and I found 2 of them. So, u/Marc0521 will receive both Weir W quarters and he can decide if he wants to keep the 2nd one or give it away to someone else.

3 people guessed the River Of No Return W design quarter and my wife randomly picked the number 3 so u/piccolotti1 wins that one.

u/Brilliant_Hall7590 wins the Bat 🦇 W out of the 6 people that guessed from my 2md childs random number selection of 1-6. It's really nasty but I understand the bat is in high demand. I don't know why, 80% of the W's I find are the American Samoa bat design.

All winners have been notified and coins will be shipped out tomorrow if an address is provided. In the event winners don't claim their coin within 24 hrs, it will be given to another person who guessed correctly.

Thank you all for playing and I hope you enjoy this sub!

Found an IKE.

Quick 30 minute dig at a family friends yard gave me an IKE $1 coin. I’ve found a few modern dollars (presidential and Sacagawea), and a Walking Liberty Half, but not an IKE. Screamed a steady 95 on the manticore.

Aurora Borealis over my house right now (10:53 PM)

No filter on the picture other than nighttime photo mode on my phone. It seems like I see these way more often in the lower 48 than I ever remember. Someone on here must know a lot more about these than I do and can explain why.

Alaska is on my list for the real deal!

It's time again, guess the oldest coin and it's yours!

This sub reached 300 members faster than I thought, so it's time for another giveaway.

Rules

• Simply comment a date of the oldest coin you think is in the bags.

• No preference will be given if you choose a quarter or nickel, just guess a year.

• No dateless 🦬 buffalo nickel guesses!!! (If I find one, I'll give it away to a random contestant).

• 1 entry per person (please don't create burner accounts to increase your odds)

• Winner has 24 hrs to claim prize, then it will be given to the next person.

• In the event of a tie, my kids will throw a dart at the board with user names on it.

• Winner will be announced Monday July 6th!

Plot twist: if you want to use your guess to try and guess a W quarter, just comment a W quarter design that you think might be in there. For example, instead of commenting "1909" for the oldest year, guess "W - Tallgrass Prairie" and if I pull a W tallgrass quarter, It's yours!

Coin count: 8,000 nickels and 8,000 quarters

Good luck!

What coin do you own that has an interesting story behind it?

Republic of Piedmont (Subalpine Republic) 2 Soldi

I have been fascinated by coins with a story and the day I stumbled upon my beloved Subalpine Republic 2 Soldi I was hooked. This particular coin also called out to my love of errors, being a clipped planchet.

The Subalpine Republic was established on June 14, 1800 by the young First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte at Piedmont, Marengo, Northern Italy.

Napoleon had marched upon Marengo and faced a numerically superior Austrian Armed Force of 30,000 troops and 100 cannons with his 22,000 troops and 15 cannons.

Initially the Austrians had the upper hand. But the Austrian General, thinking that the battle was won, left the area, and Napoleon's forces launched a surprise attack.

This resulted in a disorganised retreat by the Austrian forces causing the loss of almost 8000 taken as prisoners, 6500 dead or wounded and 40 cannons and 15 colors captured over the 12 hour battle.

Eridania, aka The Subalpine Republic was formed with Torino (Turin) as the capital, and was later annexed on September 11, 1802, therefore ending this chapter of the region.

The subject coin, 2 Soldi, is said to have been minted from the bronze of church bells and cannon balls from the arsenal at Torino.

The Obverse has the value, Soldi Due, in italics within a circle, with the legend surrounding NAZIONE* PIEMONTESE*

The Reverse has a plumb bob, (used to bring the cannons into the correct position), surmounted by a phrygian cap, with the date/year, according to the revolutionary calendar, below the plumb bob, all within a wreath of oak branches. Legend around the wreath: LIBERTA EGUAGLIANZA. A.9 in this case is the 9^(th) year of The French Revolution which can be either 1800 or 1801.

Anybody else grab these sets this morning?

I know it's insane to pay the $124.50 but it does have the dual date 2026 D & P cents in them, which is apparently the only way to get them.

Snagged 2 sets 🤷‍♂️

$1,000 in halves results

A decent showing from these two boxes including that conversation piece counterstamp and my 2nd '87 in one week.

Finally found one!

A late night penny bag search resulted in my first IHC in the wild! Found it in a bag of $50 in pennies that I've been trying to get around to all weekend.

Looks to be in decent condition as well. 16 wheats and 5 Canadians to accompany the IHC.

Good luck out there this week treasure hunters!

Edited from British to Merica (CSK😉)

Does anyone know anything about this? Star of David and "King Daimon" counterstamp.

Edit: "King Paimon". Thank you CSK!

Found some treasure today

4 silver dimes, including a couple Mercs! My favorite!

The necklace marked 14k weighs 1 gram, the 925 marked curb chain weighs 6.6ish grams, and the “L” pendant is marked 14k I THINK, and weighs 0.77 grams. It’s hard to read the hallmark on the inside of the bale.

All found at coinstar machines. Also found $23 in spendable change in the reject slot.

My daughter’s best coin roll hunting find yet!

My daughter and I search half dollar boxes together, and today she found something incredible, a two-headed coin! She was so excited that she insisted on making a video to show everyone. I trimmed it so her face isn’t visible, but you can definitely hear how proud she was. Thought this community would enjoy sharing the moment with us! 😊

Beyond grateful with this mail call from the O.G.

u/Active_Vegetable8203 asked if there was a stamp of his I liked, little did I know it was going to be this epic of a mail call!

Thank you so much AV for all of the stamps you sent my way. Especially that 2025 Omega penny that I'm sure would fetch $1.7 million at auction, but I'm not selling that beauty!

I appreciate what you guys have done here by creating such a unique, welcoming environment. You provide inspiration daily with your generosity here!

There are simply too many stamps to feature but here are a few of my favorites. And you can bet your last dollar that 100 subs quarter is on my office desk!

Great Treasures abound!

There are tons of fantastic treasures shared on this sub and I really enjoy the interactions here. My humble treasures were plentiful this week!

Went on a beach trip with the wife and kids. Spent the mornings checking the plentiful Coinstars in the area while the family slept in. Found some great grabs (including a silver Roosevelt under one machine!)

Got my 1st Mayflower quarter in change from CVS.

Had to pick up daily beach drinks at package stores, since state laws prohibit sales at grocery stores, I guess(?) Fortunately, they were literally next door to each store with a CoinStar. Chatted up the proprietors about coins and ended up “buying” the change from a few tip jars.
One really cool guy ended up being a “coin guy” too and sold me the $1.50 in change (including my 2nd & 3rd Mayflower quarters, AND a silver quarter for $5!!!)

I said, “here’s $10 for the quarter and $1.50 for the change” & he was like, “nah, man, just give me $5!” I was blown away!
Before I left, all aflutter, he actually said, “hang on, lemme go grab you something else,” and came back with a cool little 250th commemorative Challenge Coin! Super nice guy! When I checked the change back at the condo, he had even slipped a war nickel in my change!
He would definitely fit into this sub.

Final treasure-(sorry to go on and on, but dang, it was a great week!)
I LOVE the “quarters pushing” arcade game They are pretty much gone from the boardwalk arcades. Stumbled upon one in a hotdog shop near a pier and pushed a handful of change in the slot. One was a 2011 Gettysburg P that we needed for our book!

Got home tonight, plugged it in the book and had to share.

Keep being awesome, DFTs!
