How do you get the fan to turn off when target humidity is reached?
I saw some other post suggesting getting an outlet with a humidistat, or a smart outlet. I don’t have WiFi at my house currently. I got this dehumidifier at Costco for $200. I can return it for another unit if anybody has suggestions.
Thanks!

I'm referring to the buzzing/rattling noise. I was just wondering if this was normal. It sounds kind of like my refrigerator.
I'm just concerned because it wasn't making that noise for the first half a hour. I turned it off then back on later and it started making that noise.
It has collected some water so it's working for now, just not sure if this is a sign of a problem in the future or if I should ask for a replacement.
Hi everyone! I've been struggling with high humidity and mold in my dorm room, so I decided to invest in a dehumidifier. However I'm starting to doubt it's effectiveness as it seems to collect very little water.
In the picture, that bit of water at the far end corner is what it managed to collect running for 9 hours in a 16 square meter room with all windows and doors closed. Humidity was 60% when it started, 62% when I stopped it. I wasn't in the room, and the temperature was around 21 degrees.
The title. I live in NYC, and it tends to get humid during the summer. My AC has a dry mode, but it also makes my room cold. I've done a little bit of research, and it seems that a lot of dehumidifiers function in a similar way as AC, but just release all the heat in the room, rather than outside. Based on that, does it make sense for me to buy a separate humidifier? It mostly gets humid when it's hot outside, so I could just run the AC in dry mode and maybe use a separate heater for a little bit if it gets too cold, vs having a separate humidifier. Let me know your thoughts.
Hey everyone. Tomorrow we are closing on our house. It has a half finished basement, and the first thing I want to do is get a dehumidifier for the basement immediately, as it’s quite moist.
I don’t know anything about basements, I’ve lived in a trailer my whole life. The house is two levels, 1,373 sq/ft above and the basement with the garage attached is 1,259 sq/ft.
The house hasn’t been lived in for a while, and I noticed the wood flooring above is raised in some areas ever so slightly. I’m hopping controlling the moisture will help with that too.
I’m not sure where to start. What the best brands are, how big of one I need, etc. could anyone lead me in the right direction?
Whatever additional information you need to help, I’ll give it. I’m just not sure what to look for.
Thanks!
I’ve purchased a Hisense dehumidifier for my at-home library. I’m wondering if it’s necessary to install the castors. I’m having some difficulty clicking them in place and I don’t actually need them (I intend on keeping the humidifier in one place), so I was wondering if I could just skip this step. The instruction manual doesn’t say either way.
I don’t like apps for household appliances, but still interested in this model, as it seems to have some other improvements compared to the Arete One.
Is it fully functional without the app? If not, what would you not be able to do?
I currently use a VonHaus dehumidifier in one room, and would like to get a Meaco to use in another, smaller room.
Cheers
I just got this Midea MAD20C1ZWS dehumidifier and it works well I've had to empty the tank twice in 24 hours. I've noticed it reads about 10% less humidity than both my HVAC thermostat and a separate hygrometer I have (for example, my thermostat shows 50% humidity but the dehumidifier shows 40%). But the main issue is that once it hits the target humidity and shuts off, it skyrockets back up immediately then it turns back on again and runs until it's back down to the target again. It's like the sensor is affected by the fan inside the unit and once it's off it realizes the correct humidity and comes back on again. Is this normal for dehumidifiers or should I contact Midea for repair? I was expecting once it hit the target it would shut off and stay off for a while, not a few minutes...
I have humidity on the unit set to 55%. I have two other sensors in the basement that read humidity level around 47-45%. Is this start / stop cycling normal? Will this damage the dehumidifier over time by starting and stoping every few minutes?
Hello fellow Miamians,
As Summer approaches, I’m wondering and have been wondering for a few years now whether it makes sense to invest in a dehumidifier.
My thinking is that if I can reduce the humidity in my condo, it might make the summer more tolerable here.
Has anybody experimented with a dehumidifier, and if so, are you willing to share your experience?
Thank you in advance, please be kind in your response responses.
Brand new dehumidifier. I have had it for about a week. Multiple times, it has stopped running and starts making a ticking noise. It will run if I unplug it and plug it back in to restart it. There also seems to be no water coming from the drain line. Please let me know if anyone knows what would cause this issue.
I got a 20 pint Midea Cube yesterday, and during set up the humidity reader read 64% in the main room of my apartment. I let it run overnight (~8:30pm to now 5:30am) and it still reads 61% humidity.
I was just wondering if this is normal and it does just take forever for the levels to get down to a normal level or if I have some other problem, thanks everyone for the input!
ok maybe i underestimated how annoying humidity can get lol… my room lately just feels kinda damp all the time and it’s driving me insane
also starting to notice that weird musty smell a bit, especially after rainy days
been looking at dehumidifiers but idk which ones are actually worth buying vs just loud electricity eaters
what ended up working for you guys??
I'm on my 3rd portable dehumidifier for my basement.Im wondering if anyone's tried a portable ac just sitting on a crate or something and maybe a bucket to catch water.I only use the basement for storage so I'm thinking of trying it.Any thoughts?
Howdy folks,
I live down in Miami and for as long as I've been down here my skin has been terrible. I wash my face and it'll be oily again in an hour, even if I'm indoors. When I spend a few days in Colorado my face clears right up. Hair looks better than ever.
I work from home so I figure it might help if I just plop a dehumidifier near the computer where I spend most of my time. Worst case scenario it doesn't help with my skin but owning a dehumidifier doesn't feel like a bad idea in a swamp.
I tried to do some research about this and found all kinds of different info, and some of it led me here.
Is it nonsense to consider two small units placed in the places I spend most of my time?
Are there brands/models I should consider or discount if I'm looking for:
Sorry I'm sure you get a ton of "what dehumidifier should I get?" posts but I didn't see a buying guide wiki or anything and I did see some comments like "in order to recommend a dehumidifier we should know more about your specific scenario"
