Had a lot of fun pairing the M8 with the Mother 32

Not sure it's the best match tho- the M8 has engines capable of producing similar sounds, bit it's very hands on and tweakable, so you can go in and twist that filter and decay during play. the M8 is pretty new to me, so I'll also try connecting more stuff- the "external" instrument is really good!

What do you pair the M8 with?

some jazzy uk garage

pro tip: if you put a low pass filter on your sample and run it through a basic tuner you can see the bass notes of the sample in order to create your own bassline in the right key

Would you say a case for the teensy is essential when using m8 headless with a host device ?

Planning to try with steam deck

Using M8 with other synths

I’m looking to get a Dirtywave M8, partly for the possibility of using it while travelling or just when out and about. However, I’m wondering how the M8 works with other gear?

For example, I have the Sonicware Liven Evoke, which i sometimes mess about with on the go. How well does the M8 pair with synths like the evoke, and what does the workflow look like?

Can the M8 sequence external gear using MIDI, then record/resample the audio back into the M8? I’m curious to know how others integrate their M8 with their other gear.

M8 + TP-7

I’m trying to use the Teenage Engineering TP-7 (USB host) with the Dirtywave M8. But when I connect them via USB-C and hit play, TP-7 displays ‘Over current’, and it simply doesn’t detect anything via USB .

Any comments on this?

Patiently waiting for my m8_01 to arrive from Reverb.

After years of doubt I finally pulled the trigger. Looked online and found one on Reverb. Didn’t pay scalper price.

I’m looking forward to learn this this way of making music.

Coming from other grooveboxes I know this tracker way is totally different.

I’m curious to your stories/experience.
To the moment where you and the device clicked.
Also please share your music! I want to hear how you make it sound.
Who’s still has the m8 as a daily driver?
Did it make you reconsider the gear you have?

A lot of questions. Feel free to answer or ignore.

Cheers

MIDI + internal audio at the same time. Any chance?

I don’t know if the developer has commented on this, but do you think it’s possible that in a future update, each track could play the sound exactly as it’s programmed in the M8 whilst also sending MIDI?

That would be amazing!

EDIT: Just to clarify: I know that what I’m asking isn’t possible at the moment. I’m simply asking if you think it might be implemented in a future update.

help with repair.

Hey my M8 version 1 got lost its play and shift buttons. And now they stopped working. I think there is something wrong with the connection because I managed to activate the play button while problem searching.

Are there any replacement parts or video or text guide how to put on the buttons?

My new Rap album made entirely of m8 beats

This is my second and latest rap album made entirely of m8 beats like pretty much all of my releases. The best way I could describe it sonically is a disturbing lovechild of Prefuse 73 and Captain Murphy.

The lyricism orbits my experiences living with schizophrenia, substance use, amnesia, DPDR, and coping with the ever-evolving surveillance state of the modern world.

The beats are very eerie with a strong focus on odd vocal samples and unnerving melodies and editing.

I'm not sure if I've topped my 5 best rap tracks I compiled in my mixtape, but I think the average quality of the song structures and cohesiveness is far better than that of my first rap album.

Linked is my bandcamp but you can find me on streaming services under "Gluonced" or just go to gluonced.xyz for quick links to each platform. It will take a day or two for the release to hit the other main streaming services besides bandcamp.

First Breakcore test

This is not good but I wanted to share my progress with people. I've been tinkering with the m8 for about 2 weeks and finally feel like I have a grasp of the workflow. I've used Renoise and Ableton in the past to make shitty loops and beats but I'm really enjoying the m8.

I'm a novice when it comes to music production and struggle with alot of aspects of music - finding complementary sounds, complex melodies, and getting beyond a 16 loop pattern and actually making a song.

I've been really focused on taking baby steps towards actually making good music (for me at least) and I feel like I'm not there but headed in the right direction.

I need to learn the hotkeys to deep clone, manage/organize my phrases and song page, and start finding samples instead of relying on the hypersynth.

Feedback is welcome but I know it's not good so don't be too critical.

Any chance there’s a rugged case for pocket carry?

It sounds a little dumb I imagine but I’m hoping to find some some choice of a slim case or drop shell to carry my (Model 1) M8 in my pocket for very on-the-go use. Maybe at the craziest a belt pouch that can hold it. I work a mild labor job that usually has a lot of downtime on-site and occasionally leaves me with not much time at home so I’d rather grab that out of my pocket than my phone. Thank you for your time.

Sampling

Hey everyone! I’m pretty bad at sampling but I’d really like to get better at it.

What are your techniques for getting usable samples that stay in time?
I use timestretch a lot, but whenever I try slicing and playing the samples in my track, everything ends up completely off beat.

Please reveal your secret techniques 🥹

Sharing my first noodling with the Dirtywave M8 Tracker – the "render" function is also great for cable-free videos 😉

Evening Jam 17 - NTS-3 - Dirtywave M8 Tracker - LaunchPad Pro Mk3 - Hydr...

This Jam had many purposes. I have been working on this track based on samples of some old public domain tunes, and wanted to experiment with structure and elements.

I also wanted to finally start practicing using my M8 for live perfomance / Jams. Still just scraping the surface. But given that the M8 has been my goto music device and has me making a lot more songs then in a long time i really want it to be able to be a part of both my "jam" and "song writing" brains. :)

I still need some more time to get comfortable with the live workflow in the M8 and to get more tricks and variation into it. But its a start :D
