Tony

This rejected abused mini was give to me because he terrorized the family. He was separated from his mom at two months, used in a petting zoo and bottle fed. He never learned how to be a donkey. He charged people because of food. That escalated to biting rearing and kicking during tantrums. He was left tied by the neck to a barbed wire fence at six months old because in his short life, people had turned against him. He took a long time to retrain. Those early habits run deep. He’s six years old now, still mouthy sometimes, but he has manners and best friend in a seven year old standard jenny. Let baby donkeys stay with their moms until at least six months. There lessons to teach. Geld young jacks. Teach basic manners. Tony should never have been given up on and given away. Too many donkeys like him end up neglected, abused, or bound for slaughter.

Pregnant??

We are thinking one of our minis is pregnant.

We’re working on managing the weight of all our minis as they all gained really quickly this year 😵‍💫 but now we think one of them is pregnant.

The vet thought she was just gaining weight like her buddies but told me to keep an eye out on her bag. I’d say her bag is definitely filling now. Would there be any other reason for this? If she is pregnant, how much longer until she foals?

Any advice greatly appreciated on managing weight (preventing colic, foundering, etc) in a pregnant mini!

We don’t have a dry lot. They are currently hanging out in our shed. Get 1/8 flake of crappy hay in the morning and evening. Has a friend in there with her but worried about aggression when she foals. Help!

If the girls look dry and content today it's because they caused all sorts of mayhem yesterday! Quinn and Rosie decided their automatic waterer was a good scratching post and broke it off the wall while I was out running errands. It's ok we're not in a severe drought or anything...🤦🏻‍♀️

I got my donkey a donkey!

In March, we got our Benjamin after a mad donkey search for a companion for our 30yr old. We knew we wanted to add one more younger donkey so the two young ones can grow up together and prevent us from having to search for a new companion should something happen to Buddy (30yrs old).

Yesterday, we got Walter to complete our herd! He is a 2yr old gelding! Ben and Walter have been romping and rolling together all day! And Buddy is like “thinks for getting this guy a friend so he will leave me alone!”

Never did I think I’d be a donkey mom but here I am loving every second of it!

Buddy, 30 in the fly sheet
Benjamin, 4 the brown dun
Walter, 2 the white and gray one
