Mina nt ei oska mobiiliga maksta. Olen kasutanud Google Pay'd (kui ostan e-poodidest) ja igasuguseid toredaid QR-koode (mis on põhimõtteliselt kupongid), aga mitte kunagi elus virtuaalpangakaarti. Ükskord üritasin. Vaatasin netist ära õppevideo ning valmistasin end põhjalikult ette. Ostsin automaadist mett (ei tahtnud end minna inimese juurde värisevi käsi häbistama). Makse aga ei toiminud. Uurisin seejärel kodus asja ning tuli välja, et mu mobiilil polnud NFC-d (mida iganes see ka ei tähendaks). Mu uuel mobiilil on NFC (uurisin selle välja enne ostu). Kas lähen uuesti meeautomaadi juurde? Inimese juurde pigem ei läheks. Väike närv on sees.

USA president Donald Trump ütles reedel, et Venemaa on nõustunud kohe tooma maailmaturule 300 000 diislikütust ning pikema aja jooksul veel mitu miljonit tonni.
Trump teatas oma sotsiaalmeediakontol, et ta pidas enda sõnul eriti edukaid läbirääkimisi Venemaa juhi Vladimir Putiniga ning viimane nõustus viivitamatult tooma USA ja maailmaturule 300 000 tonni diiselkütust.

Trump lisas, et sellele järgneb lühikese aja jooksul, sõltuvalt rafineerimistehaste tööst, Venemaalt veel kolm miljonit tonni diislikütust, millele lisandub novembris 500 000 tonni ja veel miljon tonni peale seda.
Trumpi sõnul peaks see tooma alla kütusehindu maailmaturul.

USA väljastas Venemaa diisli tarnimiseks maailmaturule ajutise loa, mis kestab järgmise aasta 7. aprillini.
Putini erisaadik Kirill Dmitrijev kiitis oma postituses koostööd USA ja Venemaa vahel ning lisas, et nende kahe riigi koostöö diisli ja energia alal toob kasu kogu maailmale.

Sageli inimesed üllatuvad kui ma ütlen, et ma pole nii kaua maiustusi endale ostnud ja et mulle isegi ei meeldi need enam. Siin on mõttekäigud, mis on mind selleni viinud:

Minu jaoks on eraldi tähelepanuväärne hammaste tervis. Hambaauke põhjustavad peamiselt bakterid, kes toituvad suhkrust ja toodavad oma elutegevusega suus happeid.

Nii et minu jaoks on piltlikult valik: Kas jäätis... või raha, loodus ja tervis.

63-aastane Bulgaaria kodanik, kelle autost leiti seitse illegaali sai karistuseks aasta kümme kuud, millest tuleb reaalselt ära kanda kolm kuud + viieaastane sissesõidukeeld. Täitsa hea sõnumi saadab smuugeldajatele, et see risk tasub ennast ära Eestis.

I’m going to Estonia next year to study abroad for a year. The exchange organization recommended that I get vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE).
I looked it up, and it seems pretty serious. Do you think I should get vaccinated? Do most people in Estonia get vaccinated against it?

With recent threads and questions about Estonian citizenship by descent/ancestry, I thought I’d organize some informational resources and tips from my own experience in one place in case it’s helpful for folks searching this info in the future. Important note: I’m not a lawyer nor affiliated in any way with the Estonian government, so this isn’t legal advice, just an aggregation of publicly available resources and a recap of my own experience. Also, this information is current as of the date I’m posting and reflects my experiences in early 2026. Things can change over time, so confirm with your own research the accuracy of this info. 

Bear in mind that you aren’t “applying” for Estonian citizenship, as such—essentially, you are asserting that you already have it on the basis of ancestry/descent, and you are applying for the passport and ID card (which simply gives you documentation of the citizenship that you’ve already had) for the first time. This is different than someone seeking citizenship via naturalization. Thus, the steps you want to follow are for the initial passport/ID card application. The Estonian Embassy in the USA lists the requirements for the application package very clearly and thoroughly and has an FAQ section that’s a helpful supplement. (For those in Canada, the Embassy of Estonia-Ottawa has a similar page, and I assume the embassies in other countries do as well.)

Read the Embassy instructions carefully and follow them exactly. The process is relatively straightforward if you do so.

A few additional items from my personal experience:

• As noted in the embassy’s instructions, a report from the National Archives can serve as documentation of an ancestor’s citizenship for those who had citizenship between 1918 and 1940. The fee is €28 and in my case, I received the report by e-mail in just over a week. The report will be provided in Estonian, but for monolingual folks, you can run it through something like Google Translate, and I found the translation to be pretty accurate. (I printed out the original Estonian version for my passport application package.) The archive searches things like family registers, church records, ancestors’ passport applications, and whether there is a record or not with the police of the person ever having renounced their Estonian citizenship. Where relevant, they may also cross-check with records held at the Estonian Archives in the U.S. in Lakewood, NJ. Besides getting the official extract of citizenship records, I highly recommend browsing the National Archives online on your own, as there may be quite a lot of interesting information in there about your ancestors and family history.
• Remember to get your non-Estonian documents apostilled. Each country or state will likely have their own process for doing so. I know there are services that help with this, but I applied for the apostille on my own since it was very low-cost and easy under the process in the state of my birth. I don’t live in the state where I was born, so it just took time and the cost of postage to mail the apostille application and wait to receive it back. You will need birth certificates to prove the descent from you back to your parent(s) or grandparent(s). As the instructions note, any documents not in either Estonian or English will need to be translated.
• A specific tip for anyone with an ancestor born in Germany as a displaced person during the war: Digital records in the Arolsen Archives were very helpful in finding my parent’s place of birth so that I knew which Standesamt (civil registration/records office) to contact to request a copy of the birth certificate. My understanding is that each Standesamt may have its own varying process for getting these records. When I was researching this part of the process, some kind folks in the German citizenship sub also schooled me that EU nations don’t require an apostille on documents from each other, so I didn’t have to worry about the apostille for that birth cert. The German birth certificate was printed in both German and English, so no translation was needed.
• Probably the most difficult part of the passport application process is doing so in person if you don’t live near an Estonian embassy. In the U.S., at least, the Embassy makes occasional consular mission visits to other cities, but I believe you need to contact them by e-mail to inquire about that.
• The appointment at the embassy is brief. The consular officer will review the application package to ensure that your documents are in order and they’ll take fingerprints. The pick-up appointment is also brief, as you’ll be asked to review the passport for accuracy and sign to acknowledge receipt. The embassy will return to you any original documents that you submitted (e.g. your birth certificate). It is normal for the ID card and passport to arrive at the embassy at different times, but advised that you pick them up at the same appointment.
• The consular officer will likely tell you this at your application appointment but be sure to keep an eye on your e-mail junk/spam folder after you send your passport photo to the police. If there’s something off in the specs of the photo and the computers reject it, they’ll send an e-mail notification with a hyperlink to re-upload a new photo within a certain deadline. Apparently some e-mail systems, Gmail in particular, tend to flag this e-mail as suspicious because of the link and send it to spam.

 Clarifying some points of confusion or misinformation that I’ve read/heard:

• Estonia does not make ancestry citizens “choose” or give up their other citizenship. Indeed, the application package for the passport from within the U.S. requires applicants to submit a copy of their U.S. passport to verify their identity, so the government of Estonia are quite well aware that they have citizens-by-descent across the diaspora who hold additional citizenships.
• Your parent(s) or grandparent(s) do not need to have asserted their citizenship and gotten their passport first in order for you to do so for yourself. They do not need to be alive still, either. The passport application asks for names and citizenship of parents but doesn’t ask any questions about death or require death certificates.
• Unless you have a very unusual circumstance or a situation where there’s significant difficulty in accessing records/documents, you probably do not need a lawyer for any of this. The Estonian embassy instructions are very clear, and from having browsed around quite a bit in subs like r/dualcitizenshipnerds, Estonia has quite a straightforward process compared to some other countries.

I know this is very obvious advice, but I will emphasize again: read the instructions from the Estonian Embassy in the U.S. (or your home country) thoroughly.  Hope this is helpful to folks, and good luck!
