The (what u think are fans) inside the base of my printer are making a weird noisez

A while back i heard my fans making a noise that didn’t sound normal and opened a ticket with creality and they said it was normal but there was a clear difference in the noise they sometimes made when i turned it on. Normal turning it of and on 1-3 times fixes it but just now i turned it on and it made a pulsing mechanical noise like the sound it makes when leveling(but it’s the fans not motor). I’ll try and figure out how to attach sound bites but until then has anyone else came across this and if so how did you fix it?

TLDR: How do I fix the noise from my fans.

Replacing the hotend fan, a short guide for anyone else who was lost like me

My hotend fan recently started to die. How do I know? Because it would make an awful whirring noise as the hotend was heating up before resolving itself once the temp got above 180. The problem is the hotend fan uses an oil lubricant which isn't as sturdy as ball bearings, plus it sits on its side all day which hastens the end of its life.

When I started shopping around for replacement fans I realized I didn't know shit about fans, so here's what you need to know (ie, here's what I learned after some time on Discord and researching fans). First, you need a 25x25x10 mm fan, often called a 2510 fan. It's probably smaller than you're imagining. You also want to make sure it's got a two wire connection. It might not have the right size connector, but you can cut and solder the old connector to your new fan, just make sure you don't get the wires crossed. Also, make sure it's 24V and 0.1A

The most important metric you should be looking for is CFM, cubic feet per minute. I can't find reliable data about what the base CFM is for the KE fan but you should be looking for something above 3.5 CFM. If the vendor doesn't list CFM, it's probably too low. The risk of an overheated hotend is the blob of death. Nobody wants the blob of death.

The other thing to make sure of is that the fan has ball bearings. If you see something like "sleeve" or "hydraulic," it has the same oil-based lubrication as the original and will have a shorter life. There are maglev fans that have a longer life than either but I haven't found a reliable vendor for those for 2510 fans. The only caveat to all this is that the hydraulic/sleeve bearings are quieter than the ball bearings.

When it comes to installation, it should be a quick 15-minute process.

Remove the 3 hex screws from the hotend cover.

Remove the 4 Philips head screws from the 2510 fan which won't be in the cover itself, but directly attached to the hotend.

Unplug the fan. Just follow the wire and gently pry it loose or pull it out with some pliers (gently!)

Screw in the new fan. This can be a bit fiddly but I started with the bottom corner then did the top corners then the last bottom corner.

Plug the new fan in. Fiddly as well. I used tweezers to get it lined up before pushing it in all the way with a finger nail.

Re-attach the hotend cover. This bit's pretty easy.

Bob's your uncle.

Ask any questions if you've got them! If the thread has expired and you can't comment or reply, feel free to shoot me a DM

Multicolor

I'm venturing into the challenge of multi-color on the same layer as if I had AMS but manually

Does anyone know of any good tutorials, tips, or advice for achieving good quality multicolor results?

Because I've tried it, but it leaves me with too much subtraction and over-extrusion.

As you can see in the video, I've already made several attempts, but with this over-extrusion problem, the nozzle hits the print a lot and ends up generating a lot of vibrations, to the point that it becomes misaligned and completely ruins the print. I've also already used a lower extrusion width and reduced the flow for the first layer, and I don't know what else to do.

Manual bed leveling

Hi everyone, I’m manually leveling my print bed because it has a 1.7mm variance. I’m using a spreadsheet to calculate point averages and determine the dimensions for new spacers, but I’ve started wondering if it would be a good idea to install those adjustment wheels and springs and use the Screw Tilt Calculate feature. Is this a good option, or would it be considered a step backward? Thanks in advance.

Help needed reseting the firmware of my Ender 3 V3 KE

Hi, I was using an Ender 3 V2 for a long time until a friend reached out and said he has a V3 KE for me to upgrade from my current set-up. The only problem is, I think the touchpad has been upgraded to a Nebula pad, and the firmware seems to be GuppyScreen 0.0.26-beta. I haven't been able to find any good guides on how to uninstall the firmware and revert it back to the latest version of the standard firmware. Can someone please point me in the right direction for a step-by-step guide to reset it back to basics? Thank you.

New to Printing!

Not sure what I’m doing wrong or if the files aren’t compatible. I’ve printed several things up to this point but I’m new to having a 3D printer. For the elf figure, I did not include supports and I think that may be the problem there. What would you recommend for the settings for the supports?

I am having problems installing KAMP

All of the posts and videos are from 1-2 years ago. Installed GuppyKE (openKE) and downloaded all the extensions. And followed all of the instructions from the KAMP repository. Could someone please walk me through the steps?

Anyone who helps will be appreciated and considered a legend

Missing lines on first layer

Machine started printing like this out of no where. I had good prints yesterday too. Checked levelling, z offset, tightened all the screws. Can someone please help?

Good bed leveling - Bad first layer

I have issues with PET-G printing, especially with the first layer.

Here's my current settings :

  • Bed is (i think) leveled (see picture)
  • Z-axis comp. is currently at -2.34.
  • Bed temp at 80°c
  • Noozle at 230°c

bed levels

Seeting looks good imo, but the first layer won't stick ! I tried to print flat surfaces (see gif's) but a lot of filament don't stick to the plate. I also tried to add 10°c to the plate temp, but no diffrences.

I feel like the noozle position is too high, but the z-axis comp is already at -2.34. To be honnest, I'm a little lost with the z-offset setting. The z-comp seems to indicate that the noozle is pretty high.

Can it be the problem ?

Otherwise, maybe it's the material flow threw the noozle (not clean enough, or the tip is damaged).

Do you have any ideas ?

OpenKE Discord server for support, bugs, feature requests and updates

Hi everyone,

I made a Discord server for OpenKE.

The idea is to have one place for support, bug reports, feature requests, release updates, and general discussion around OpenKE on the Ender 3 V3 KE.

Reddit threads are still useful, but they get a bit hard to follow once multiple people report issues in different places. Discord should make it easier to keep track of bugs, help people quicker, and discuss new ideas before they end up in a release.

You can join here:

https://discord.gg/wSmZcMtMdm

There are channels for:

  • announcements
  • general discussion
  • OpenKE support
  • bug reports
  • feature requests

I’ll still post important updates on Reddit, but Discord will probably be the easier place for active support and feedback.

Also, if you are using OpenKE and are not on the latest release yet, I recommend updating to v1.3.0 first before reporting older bugs, since a lot of reported issues should already be fixed there.

The KE putting in work

Gotta say I still love my ender 3V3 KE's. They still have the ability to output amazing results with a well tuned filament profile. I have way too many newer and more expensive printers but still love to get the KE's some printing action.

I need help. I don’t know what might be happening.

I changed the nozzle of my printer to a 0.2 for testing, put it in for printing and it’s giving this problem, I didn’t let it continue for fear of clogging or something like that. Not sure if it’s the slicer, calibration.

OpenKE v1.0 — touchscreen UI + easier KAMP / Axis Twist setup for the KE

Hey KE people,

I finally released OpenKE v1.0 today.

This is the project that used to be called GuppyKE / GuppyScreen. I renamed it to OpenKE because it has grown into more than just a screen replacement now.

The short version: OpenKE is meant to make the Ender 3 V3 KE easier to tune, easier to use, and less annoying to modify.

I started this because the KE is a pretty capable printer, but getting all the good Klipper stuff working cleanly on it can be a pain. Things like KAMP, adaptive purge, Axis Twist Compensation, TMC Autotune, Skew Correction, camera fixes, pause/resume fixes, etc. are all useful, but normally you end up digging through different GitHub repos, editing configs by hand, patching files, and hoping you didn’t break something.

OpenKE tries to put that in one place, with KE-specific docs and an installer that lets you choose what you want.

What it includes:

  • a touchscreen UI made for the KE screen
  • interactive 3D bed mesh viewer
  • live Z-offset baby stepping
  • on-screen calibration tools
  • guided input shaper helper
  • KAMP / adaptive mesh + purge, pre-edited for the KE
  • Axis Twist Compensation setup
  • TMC Autotune
  • Skew Correction
  • Nebula camera image tuning + H.264 stream option
  • useful macros like M600, save Z-offset, PID, bed level, warmup, etc.
  • pause/resume layer-shift fix
  • safer install flow with backups and checks where it has to touch existing files

The installer asks what you want to add. You can install everything, skip everything, or pick features one by one. So it is not “all or nothing”.

I also rewrote the wiki for v1.0. There are now normal user guides instead of just random notes: install, upgrade, perfect first layer, KAMP + Axis Twist, TMC Autotune, Skew Correction, troubleshooting, camera tuning, and a “Perfect prints — start here” page.

Wiki:
https://github.com/coreflake1/guppyscreen/wiki

Release:
https://github.com/coreflake1/guppyscreen/releases/tag/v1.0.0-OpenKE

Repo:
https://github.com/coreflake1/guppyscreen

Important: this is made for the Ender 3 V3 KE. Make a backup before installing. The installer also makes backups, but still, don’t skip your own backup.

It is still a hobby project, but v1.0 is the first version where I feel comfortable saying: this is stable enough, documented enough, and useful enough for other KE users to try.

If you have a KE and you’ve been wanting KAMP / Axis Twist / better screen controls without manually piecing everything together, this is probably worth a look.

Feedback, bug reports, and ideas are very welcome.

I’ve been printing the same file for days. Recently, I’ve been getting these irregular lines in my prints. What could be causing this? Ender 3 Neo Max. Sprite Pro extruder. Sonic pad. Bambu Lab TPU.

Need help

Sooo... now what?

I can put something under the back of the bed, which raises the back, but the front still is too high. What do I do?

(QUICK EDIT!!!: I bought this printer for ~$50, they were selling it because it wouldn't print. I fixed that issue (hotend fan wouldn't work and heat creep was present, so i bought and installed a working fan), but now when it prints, the prints are coming out with the layers on the bed showing an obvious bed leveling problem. The printer was apparently modded once or a few times (I noticed a unicorn nozzle but I don't know what else was modded).
