I did my time six years ago. Can my employer punish me for it all over again?

I’m 28, and I’ve been out and staying clean for almost six years. When I was 22, I made a really stupid decision during a pretty bad period of my life. I broke into a parked car and stole some electronics. I got caught, went to prison for 18 months, and did my time. I’m not going to pretend I was innocent. I fucked up, I paid for it, and I’ve spent the years since trying to build a completely different life. After I got out, finding work wasn’t exactly easy, but I eventually got hired at a mid-sized logistics company. I started in the warehouse doing pretty basic stuff, worked my way up, and over the years I ended up becoming a shift coordinator. I’ve actually done pretty well there. No write-ups, no incidents, nothing like that. I show up, do my job, and go home. My direct manager knows about my record. He’s known for years and has never really made an issue out of it because he’s seen how I work. The problem is that the company was acquired recently, and apparently the new owners are doing another round of background checks, especially for people in supervisory positions. Yesterday, my manager pulled me aside and told me, pretty quietly, that my background check had been flagged. He said he didn’t know exactly what HR was going to do, but he’d been given the impression that they were seriously considering letting me go because they didn’t want to take the risk. He made it pretty clear that he wasn’t officially telling me anything, and he couldn’t promise that I was getting fired. But basically, he told me I should prepare myself for that possibility. And honestly, I’m exhausted. It’s one thing to know that my past is still out there. I’ve never expected it to magically disappear. But I really thought that after almost six years of doing everything right, working my way up, and having a clean record since getting out, I’d finally gotten past the part where one stupid decision followed me everywhere. Now I might lose the job I’ve spent years building because someone sitting in HR sees a conviction on a report and decides I’m a liability. I’m not saying I shouldn’t have consequences for what I did. I already had them. I’m just frustrated that it feels like I’m being punished all over again after actually changing my life. I’m planning to wait and see what HR says before I do anything stupid, and obviously I’m going to start looking at other jobs just in case. Has anyone else dealt with something like this after turning their life around? If your background check came up years later, were you able to explain the situation or appeal the decision, or did the company just let you go?

Halfway house relationship, AIO

So for context, I (44f) am in a federal halfway house and I started dating a guy (47m) at the halfway house (I know, I know), and he obviously has issues. He is verbally abusive to me, and literally makes up so much shit in his head that it is straight psychotic. There is no other way to explain it. I am a very honest and rational person and how quickly he cycles catches me so offguard and triggers me so badly to freak the fuck out. This is our conversation from tonight when I did not respond to his texts for 20 minutes while I was wrapping up at work, like I do every single night. I blanked out the name of my coworker in burgundy, and the name of my case manager at the federal halfway house in green. The guy I am seeing was put on an ankle monitor today for his own deviations, and I have a tracker on my phone that goes literally everywhere with me. He is basically threatening to go to my case manager and tell my case manager that I fuck around with random dudes while I am at work. By the way, I work in a residential treatment facility, and take my job extremely seriously as well as my own recovery. I have been in and on and off again relationship with this guy for five months, and I’m basically posting this to keep myself accountable so that I never talk to him ever again.

First-time felony mail theft charge in Utah — what outcome would you expect?

I’m in Utah and facing a third-degree felony mail theft charge and a Class B misdemeanor theft charge. I have no prior criminal history and have never been in legal trouble before.

I took a THC gummy that hit me much harder than expected. I went to the package pickup/mail area of my apartment complex, saw a UPS package that wasn’t mine, and made the incredibly stupid decision to take it. The package was worth under $500. There was video of the incident.

I’m not blaming the gummy or trying to excuse what I did. I made the decision, take responsibility for it, and deeply regret it.

I hired a criminal defense attorney and we’re currently waiting on discovery. My biggest concern is avoiding a permanent felony conviction. I’m more than willing to pay restitution and fines and complete probation, community service, classes, or whatever reasonable conditions are required.

For anyone familiar with Utah or who has dealt with a similar first-time, nonviolent felony, what was the outcome? Were you able to get the felony dropped or reduced to a misdemeanor, get diversion/deferred prosecution, a plea in abeyance, or otherwise avoid a permanent felony conviction?

I know nobody here can predict my case. I’m mainly looking to hear from people who have been in a similar situation.

When exactly does the 7 year lookback period begin for a background check in California?

Hello everyone. I want to apply to a "regular" job, not anything government or the sort that involves fingerprinting. I know California law goes back 7 years for standard background checks, but I'm confused on when exactly that starts. Does that start from date of disposition, or something else? For reference, my disposition date was end of September in 2019, but I did serve county jail time (2.5 weeks) and released December 1st of 2019. I was not required to immediately report to the county jail, hence why there's a gap from disposition date and county jail reporting. I was not assigned parole, but rather assigned probation for 3 years, which ended 11 months early and was changed to informal probation due to good behavior. This is for felony theft.

I would like any information possible on whether I should be good to apply right after the 7 years is up from disposition date, or whether I should wait 7 years from release from county jail. There doesn't seem to be a surefire answer in my research, so I was wondering if anyone had any insight.

I was a young and dumb kid, but I've definitely cleaned up my act since then and have avoided anything since that could put my future in jeopardy again. And yes, I already filed for an expungement with a wonderful lawyer and after looking over my case he's pretty much certain it'll be expunged without any issues. Only thing is the process is going to take approximately 3 months and I can't wait that long to find a job, I'd rather apply for one as soon as my 7 years is up.

DWI- is my life over? Be honest.

A few days ago, I got a dwi. I was around 3x the legal limit and was arrested. This was my first time ever even interacting with police outside of things like tickets or parking violations from the past etc. I am 27F and just applied to a PhD program. I’m using a public defender bc that’s all I can afford unfortunately. For context it happened in NJ although I am a resident of a different state.

I was sober for almost 1 year and relapsed and ended the day with a charge. I am at rock bottom. I deeply regret my actions and don’t really know how to navigate this, especially sober (again). Any advice or anything if anyone has ever experienced this or knows someone that has would help.

EDIT: for CONTEXT: I wasn’t actually driving but I was pulled over with my car still on when I was arrested. Also idk if I was arrested arrested or just held until my ride came. They let me have my phone and wait for someone to pick me up, no mug shots or anything like that. I know I will be facing a lot of annoying fees for a while and have to probably be on some duty of probation but I’m afraid I will go to jail. I’m terrified of what my future will look like if schools find out.

I've been running from the law for 6 years for a felony warrant and yesterday just SWAT team and getting cash for raided my house in the morning didn't find a thing but also said nothing about the warrant. Anyone have any ideas?

6 years ago I took a plea deal for pc 530.5 (identity theft, felony) mind you this particular crime is a wobbler in my state (I'm in California) . So my attorney got me a turn and date I was supposed to surrender and do 24 months ( I have a strike for pc.459 - residential burglary) I've been running for the last 6 years mainly because I'm battling a fentanyl addiction and I'm just running from my problems. Aside from that. The other morning I woke up to the SWAT team and gang task on the loud speaker outside telling me to come out hands up blah blah blah once they throw a flash bang through the window I put my dog in the cage set him on the front porch. Attempted to run through the backyard. A swat officer with a dog was hiding behind a large plant. Possibly cannabis. So when he popped out I seen the dog and ya I knew it's time to face the music. So I'm sitting on the curb in front of my house when the game task Force officer who wrote the warrant came and was talking to me basically they were looking for firearms they found my phone said there was evidence of drug sales I told him they would find no drugs or no guns they found neither. He proceeded to try to get me to turn over and tell on someone and find him guns or drugs I told him I would ( definitely not going to happen ) not a word about the warrant they all left and I'm still free just want some input. Anybody have any ideas?
