Would I be able to apply as a Geek Squad Advanced Repair Technician even if I have no experience in any work, but am interested and somewhat knowledgeable in tech repairs?

Interview advice

**Geek Squad interview coming up — what should I expect and how do I prep?**

Hey everyone, I have a Geek Squad interview coming up and wanted some advice on how to best prepare. I've already completed the video interview and got to briefly introduce myself to the hiring manager, so I'm past the initial screening stage.

I have a background in CS and some hands-on experience with hardware/software troubleshooting, but I've never interviewed for a retail tech role before so I'm not totally sure what to expect next.

A few things I'm wondering:
- What kind of questions do they usually ask at this stage? More behavioral or technical?
- Do they test you on specific hardware/software knowledge on the spot?
- Any tips on how to talk about customer service experience if you don't have a ton of it?
- Is there anything specific to Geek Squad culture or the way they do things that I should know going in?

Any advice from people who've been through it (or work there now) would be huge. Thanks in advance!

Depression

Snapped in 2024, my dream job as a PC DA that I did for 20 years, sometimes I took it for granted, other times I cherished every minute of it.

I was a roll out agent, survived every restructuring and every snap until I couldn’t. The younger, cheaper, and better agent got to keep his job as a DA. Since then The first year was cake, the unemployment was good money, the severance was nice. I thought after 23 years with BB I deserved a break.

I started really looking for jobs in 2025 and found that all those years with geeksquad didn’t do shit for my tech knowledge. Most companies want experience supporting a large organization, not old grandmas. With that in mind my skills and experience lend well to a help desk role. I got a job finally as a desktop analyst at a hospital, just a contract.

During those 8 months I learned so much, it was like a boot camp learning Azure, Intune, Exchange, Active Directory, Citrix, about 10 other software platforms including a ticketing system. But unfortunately my contract ended.

That’s where the pain began. The job market turned sour, help desk jobs are few and far between and they don’t pay for shit. I’m getting interviews but getting turned down for entry level stuff. Being ghosted, getting to 3rd rounds, 4th rounds just to get NO. Jobs are being taken over by AI, the jobs that do exist have 2-3x more people applying for them. The cost of everything is going straight up and these help desk jobs used to be 28-34 an hour are now only paying 22-25 an hour.

The unemployment is running out what was once a generous 730 a week is now 173 a week. I still look at the jobs posting at Bestbuy and they have not had any onsite job openings for the past 2 years. What is going on? When someone leaves they just don’t fill the spot. I got approved to do installs through 3rd party but my body can’t take doing the larger TVs 98in TV upstairs? I just can’t do it.

I keep saying that be happy that I got to experience the best part of geeksquad and had a great job for so long. But I wish I could be in the geekmobile at the end of a long day with the sunset and the music playing…fuck me

10 years at best buy 3 years at Geek Squad

10 years at Best Buy.
3 years with Geek Squad.

Grateful for the lessons, the growth, and everyone who helped me along the way, especially those who guided me on the ARA and CA side of things. Badge retired, but the experience comes with me.

Onto the next chapter. 🖤🧡 #AlwaysGS 🫡

Does geek squad offer payment plans on repairs

I have a Samsung Galaxy s10 tab ultra with a damaged screen and bezel. Ive already been quoted 600+ to get it fixed outside of bestbuy/geeks quad. If it comes down to that through best buy do they offer payment plans? I really need this thing fixed ASAP.

spilled water on my laptop

I spilled about a cup of water on my MacBook Air, i immediately dried it and started using a hair dryer to get whatever water I could out (cold setting of course). for the most part everything seems to be working perfectly fine, even the speakers sound good, the only issue is the trackpad. it still technically functions properly, however it’s making a really loud clicking sound that it never made before. it’s one of the models with the haptic feedback (im assuming that would impact something im just not sure what) if anyone knows what I should do to help it, or even prevent further damage I’d really appreciate it !!!!

im currently leaving it in the “tent position”, but I got this laptop in 2022 (I think it’s a 2021 model tho) so I wanna keep it going for as much longer as possible bc I don’t wanna spend $1k on a new one rn

Are customers starting to push back on AI call answering?

Feels like more businesses are going all-in on AI right now.

But comparing our April 2026 survey (~6k people US/UK/CA) vs 6 months ago:

  • 85% said they’d rather speak to a real person (up from 83%)
  • 59% find AI more frustrating than humans (up from 54%)
  • ~1 in 3 would hang up if they hit AI on a call

Small shifts, but all in the same direction.

Feels like sentiment might be getting worse, not better.

Are you seeing this with customers?

My hours rn are shit (venting)

I work in Geek Squad as a CA. Starting last week, my store's managers decided to cut a lot of people's hours because they gave out more than what the store can handle (which is their mistake, mind you). I literally work 2 days of 4-hour shifts over the next couple of weeks, which probably comes out to $200 (maybe even less after taxes) in my next paychecks. With this job, I take a lot of shit from clients, and managers are on my ass because of Total/ISP (Although I do alright every week). Plus, some of my lazy co-workers who don't do shit are getting away with it. I'm thinking of quitting if I get a better job opportunity that pays more than my current rate. This used to be an alright job, when managers used to be great, and I had pretty awesome co-workers (that I'm still friends with to this day), but now that all the cool coworkers left for many reasons (better jobs, life, etc.), and managers are getting on me because of my numbers, I just don't feel like it's worth it anymore. I was also in it for the experience, but with time, I realized that the job is just like any other retail job, and you're handling customers/clients that act like literal children sometimes, or just straight up disrespect you. Unless all of this improves in the next couple of weeks, I'm probably quitting as soon as I get a good job that lets me deal with actual adults and pays me for what I'm worth.

For anyone who's thinking of applying to GS or Best Buy in general, please do yourself a favor and turn around. Unless the store you're applying to has great managers, and employees are enjoying their shifts, do not join because it is NOT worth the trouble.

Flashing lines on my new tv

Flashing lines on the tv

Anyone have a Samsung S84F Oled tv and have a random white line flash along the screen through the internal apps.

I’ve already tried the typical trouble shooting tips plus some not so typical. Going into the settings and doing the self diagnose tool. I even did a hard reset through the service menu and the same thing keeps happening.Even doing the power cycle of the tv or uninstalling the app doesn’t work. The tv is less than a week old. I’ve already done 2 exchanges thinking it was the tv and on the third tv I have the same issue. I am currently a geek squad employee but I’m out of options/solutions as this is the third tv that’s doing this.

how valuable is the geeksquad experience?

Hi, I just graduated from High School and recently interested in IT, i have basic/ normal experience and knowledge about computers but nothing about hardware and that kind of stuff yet, i want to get into it and be able to hace a good IT role like cybersecurity but i know i need IT experience first before getting into the security part, so i was wondering if getting into geeksquad was a good starting point right now that im getting off high school, would it give me valuable experience for IT? or is it just bs, I would appreciate your opinions, thanks!!

Geek Squad Retail Agent - What is it?

What is the retail agent job for Geek Squad? I assumed it was where you worked the desk but I guess that’s Consultant agent? So what does the Retail Agent do then? I’m looking for something that will help me move into their technical side. I have an associates Computer Science so I have some technical knowledge. Been applying to help desk jobs but no luck. Working on certs but need something in the meantime to get me by and figured this might be moving in the right direction.

ETA: Job is Geek Squad Retail Agent. J can’t find any sub posts talking about it. Any that mention it always have people commenting about Consulting Agent

“My 17 YeAr olD NePheW dID sOmeThing and NoW I HaVe a VirUs”

Yes, sir - I’m sure that’s why there are 8 INSTALLERS EACH for WaveBrowser, shift, OneLaunch, UltraViewer, and ScreenConnectClient downloaded at least twice a week since you last came in 2 years ago. Last FACE report: 23NOV24. Literally 23 PUPs and RATs downloaded on THE 24TH?! And every 2-3 days since?! Yes, I’m *sure* your nephew is destroying your computer.

Some people really just don’t need to use computers, and that’s okay

Help with SOP

*RESOLVED.* Does anybody know the SOP regarding recording apple repairs. I understand there are technically guidelines around recording “client stuff” in precinct, but there doesn’t seem to be anything regarding specifically Apple hardware repairs. Would I get in trouble recording fixing an iPhone as long as there is no sort of client information viewable?
