After 5 years with Best Buy and 2 and a half with Geek Squad, I can finally say goodbye to this company. Will not miss it but will never forget my time here. I’m looking for a diagnostic report for water damage for an iPad. Does someone have an example of one from Geek squad? I’m just looking to see if my insurance will accept it after not accepting some from other local electronics shops
New Agent here, have not been officially been hired on but i have been working front end sales for the last month and a half and i recently got the opportunity to do what i came to Best Buy for: Follow in the footsteps of the Chief Inspector. Since Best Buy requires this i do have to disclose that these are my own thoughts and opinions.
First Things First: Respect the Clients
I will be writing this with an updated look on the Little Orange Book so many senior agents have come to swear by. Included will also be stories from the little amount of shadowing I've done under our senior CA, following of course the rules set out by the Six Point Pledge we have all signed and sworn under oath. Number one of course being to respect the Clients and their data, if not for Agent 1 there would be no Geek Squad. Remember to strive for Cookie Clients ( As i have coined from the story we have all come to know ), and act with as much courtesy and respect as possible.
Secondly: Confidence is Key
In many interactions you will have with the client base, some could seem angry, but those are our best asset. Think about it, what can convince an employee or customer on the floor to use our service more than a client coming in screaming and leaving with a smile on their face from the service we provide. If nothing else the key to hold those seemingly angry clients is to always seem confident in your answers, even if you don't know. Tell them you will find out and be right back.
Thirdly: The Client Comes First
Combining Points three,four,and five, always remember to take the client personal problems as gospel to overcome. If you're a field agent installing a TV, take off your shoes before even being asked, a CA like me, remember small details like if they want to factory reset an old device after a data transfer, and of course our ARAs need to be on their best behavior in BOP when handling and recovering data, as we are all a part of an elite team, twenty thousand strong.
And Lastly: Keep Your Promises
When viewing the secrets of our manual you must sign after that first viewing, keeping sure that you uphold and represent our values/ Keep your promises to your clients, to your friends, and your family. Remember, only us Geeks know the true power we hold, world domination is the goal here.

Sleeper Checking In (19.5 years with Geek Squad)
Wonder if there are any DAs out there that could help with putting a time frame to something that Geek Squad had done a while ago. If this could be pinned down to the month on each end that would be great, but any information might be helpful.
There was a period of time where they had DA-PC agents working at least one day a week from home, and work remotely. During this time, they also separated all the DA-PC agents from the Home Theater Agents again. The managers for the groups of DA-PC agents were then typically not located anywhere physically near them (like many hundreds, if not over 1000+ miles away)
Any help on this is greatly appreciated

Edit: For clarity, I did a similar thing during Covid as well, but what I am asking about isn't the Covid time Geek Squad did this, but instead when it was a planned out thing that lasted for at least over a year.

I’m in the middle of a photography gig, and my Adobe Lightroom decided 48 hours ago to shutdown every 5 minutes. It might have something to do with the fact that my laptop has mainly been stuck at 0-1 percent charge all of a sudden for around the same time frame. (It went up to 33 percent recently but now it’s stuck around 7 percent, but either way I just need my Adobe Lightroom to not shut down every 5 minutes so I can work)
I tried to move to a new laptop, but the color display is so intensely dull and extremely off that I genuinely can’t really judge what I’m doing editing wise. So I guess my question is: How much would it cost to fix the issue with the first laptop VS how much would it cost to calibrate the color for the second one? I think both laptops were bought at Best Buy originally. I’d prefer working on the original laptop because I want my grandmother to have the newer one, but I’m genuinely strapped for money so I will probably do whatever is cheaper
Any help would be appreciated, I legit have the anxiety of someone being hunted for sport rn 😭

My phone got dead. A week ago its was abandon since 1 day like i didnt do anything whole day and 2nd day it starts ghost touch like automatically working ( in order like it was sliding notification bar down) . Its already six years old OPPO F11. Also some broder box of white transparent shade appeared in a column from left side almost half length of screen.
So i leave it for 2 days thinking once it get drained then might it will fix. (Power button is alzo dead schedule power on is active) .
BUT, after that day when i pluged it into charge it vibrates like when plug in but screen not on..so i thought it get fully draines and takes time but it didnt . So i assume screen got dead.
Next day when i checked , vibration was alzo gone ...when i am connecting data cable from phone to phone then another phone is charging . (Maybe motherboard is working still)

So I was a home theater installer until April 2024 when I got laid off. I recently put in an application for a seasonal part time helper role. My old boss excitedly texted me the next day. Apparently, I won’t be interviewing with her but with one of her shift leads. One of them has been out sick but she said I should be hearing from someone soon
So, shift leads. That’s a new thing. She also told me quite a few things that are new… I thought I was filling out an application for something familiar but it almost sounds like a completely different job.
On the one hand, it sounds like you get to do a lot more different kinds of things and learn more useful skills that could be transferable and open up more opportunity to find Work. I just hope they have really upped their game when it comes to training. In my experience, it was just kinda like “ okay, you do this now, go do it” and you’d just kinda be thrown in to it not knowing a thing about it. I hope they’re not gunna just throw me into a McDonald’s and tell me to get the ice cream machine working while people stare at me, a 6’2” trans woman with a silly logo on my tshirt and an even sillier badge on my belt and watch me fiddle with the thing having no idea what I’m doing
On the other hand, it also sounds like a potential for doing more work with higher expectations for less pay kinda situation… is this really something I want to get back into?
I feel like it was such a part of my identity for so long and now I feel like that thing no longer even exists :/ idk that kinda hurts. It’s retail, so I expect change, but maybe not to this extreme. I thought I was applying for something I was overqualified for, but now I wonder if I’m underqualified, with all that they expect

I sent my laptop to geeksquad and i think theyre doing a battery change and some key replacements cuz some broke, they said they needa send it in and im wonderjng how long itll take? i really dont want to to last more than 3 weeks but just wanna know your guys' thoughts.
I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if there’s an issue with my laptop after the repair.
I recently sent my ASUS laptop in for repair because it was randomly crashing. I wasn’t really expecting much, but when I got it back, I was surprised to find out that they had replaced the entire motherboard.
Now I’m having a new issue. When I connect the laptop to an external monitor through HDMI, the laptop detects that a monitor is connected, but nothing displays on the monitor.
I’ve already tried different monitors and multiple HDMI cables, but I’m still having the same problem. Everything worked fine before the motherboard replacement.
Has anyone experienced something similar after a motherboard replacement? Is there anything else I should try, or would you recommend sending the laptop back for another repair?

I’m starting my training this week as a Consultation Agent in the geek squad department. I’m pretty good with Apple products but not as tech literate with Windows, what does a typical day look like? Will there be a lot of training? What kind of metrics do they measure us on? I’m a pretty fast learner I just want to see what current Geek Squad employees opinions are working here.
hi, this is my first post and i apologize if i accidentally break any rules!
about a year ago, i tried doing some kind of setting reset because i installed new ram and i read that i needed to do a reset that would keep my files but allow my computer to properly use my ram or something.
i usually use my PIN to log in, so when it wouldnt let me use my PIN, i couldnt remember the password i hadnt used in like 3 years. so i transferred my data to a 1TB USB (i know better now…) my dad gave me, and then formatted the drive so i could use it again.
well the USB didnt save ANY of the info it said it did, and now ive lost nearly 1TB of data. ive been hesitating to get it recovered because of the cost but i need to bite the bullet. is this something Geek Squad can recover for me? i installed a few programs before realizing the USB was faulty, and i understand that some data cant be recovered because i overwrote it.
TLDR: formatted hard drive, can geek squad recover it?
I have a 2025 Zephyrus G14. One morning a crack magically appeared on it's screen. No physical damage. No drops.
I have GeekSquad accidental damage protection and took the laptop to BestBuy.
Got my laptop back yesterday.
Main display ribbon is not fully seated. I can see it bulging
Heatsink screws were lose. I had to re-tighten all of them.
Those are just the things I noticed right away. Who knows what else they screwed up.
What kind of service is this? WTF?!
I have my comptia a+ and experience in tech support service roles so I may be bit overqualified for a role that only requires "a passion for technology" and A highschool diploma. The job's range goes from $15-$20. Can you negotiate higher pay in the interview or does everyone start out at $15 and work up? What is your story is negotiating for salary at this job? Would be nice to start out at $18-$19.
Nearest Apple Store is 3 hours round trip. Ordered backup refurbished iPad 9 from Apple this week. Taking wife’s iPad 9 to Geek Squad today, appointment was setup through Apple Care.
Greek Squad called 7 hours before appointment. Guy was giving me a heads up that it will be a week before Apple will send replacement or repaired unit. Also he told me Apple has not supported lightning connector for over half a decade.
Well Apple just sold me a refurbished device, with a lightning connector, it was immaculate upon receipt.
Insulting customer’s intelligence is not a business strategy.
