Lip to pillow, pillow to eye…. Risk!?
Hi,
My spouse and I are both positive for O-HSV1. I’ve been under a lot of stress, and I woke up to my lip feeling heavy. I noticed the tiniest, almost invisible bumps and I’ve been treated it as a cold sore. The area has since darkened and feels crusted even though it isn’t a crust. I know it’s still there somewhat because it feels extra dry if my lips are dry overall. This is 10 days post appearance of the original tiny bumps.
My lip accidentally touched the edge of the pillow that I was laying on. A couple of minutes later, my spouse unexpectedly put their face/eye right on the same edge of the pillow while talking to me. I removed the pillow from the bed and after freaking out (eight minutes later), I made them wash out their eyes.
I hope I didn’t spread HSV to their eye via direct contact from the lesion to the edge of the pillow to their eye. I know there aren’t any studies that focus on such a niche scenario, but I’m so worried nonetheless. I wish I made them wash out their eye sooner! I wish I flipped the pillow to the other side.

Pediatrician Recommendation: NYU (Brooklyn)
Hi!
I saw the other thread about NYU pediatricians in Manhattan, but are there any recommendations for pediatricians in Brooklyn?
If so, what do you like about this pediatrician? Any dislikes/cons?
Thanks!
Baylor Genetics (how did they get my information)
Hi,
I saw another post on here regarding the recent security breach at Baylor Genetics.
I have never used Baylor Genetics for anything. In pregnancy, my spouse and I elected to do genetic screening and that was processed by a different, competing company. We have never done genetic screening outside of this, and we have never seen Baylor Genetics’ name before today.
The specific tests (I did 2, spouse did 1) that we completed, and especially the one that my partner completed, has no partnership in any step of testing and reporting with Baylor Genetics. So, it’s strange that I received a letter but absolutely confusing that my spouse did.
How exactly did Baylor Genetics get our information??? (I’m asking here in case anyone knows if ‘competitors’ in the genetics field actually work together behind the scenes).
Long-term consequences of blood transfusion?
Hi,
I know it’s extremely common for premature babies to receive a blood transfusion(s). I saw online that blood transfusion in such a young body can result long term consequences such as immune sensitivity and neurodevelopment concerns (decreased language, motor, and cognitive skills).
Obviously, everything comes with risk and the benefits need to greatly outweigh the risks; but, has anyone here whose baby had a blood transfusion(s) noticed any of this?
Lovenox Injections… not so consistent :/
Hi,
I had an emergency C-section and lost a little over 1,000 mL of blood. I received a blood transfusion.
I was prescribed lovenox injections (40 days worth), but they really, really suck. Obviously, a clot would suck worse. I’m very active, constantly moving, walking, driving, etc., but I have missed about 3 doses so far on different days. I previously had an ache in the front of my foot, so I had bilateral groin to ankle Dopplers that were normal. I am now, two weeks later, feeling an ache in the side of the opposite leg (not front or back) that is on/off and with no other symptoms.
I’ve restarted my medicine —— I just wanted to hear anecdotes. Has anyone been prescribed lovenox injections postpartum and not have been so diligent without any adverse outcomes?
Thank you!
Has anyone else experienced light bleeding after stretching?
Hi,
I’m 3 weeks postpartum. I do not bleed daily, nor regularly; but I noticed around one and a half to two weeks postpartum that bowel movements would cause small to medium sized clots and bleeding. Now, bowel movements don’t seem to cause any bleeding, but I stretched a lot while waking up today and it fired up my lower belly (pins and needles sensation), which I remember from early on but do not feel on a daily basis anymore. However, I am now lightly bleeding when I pee.
My incision itself is perfect, and healed well. It seems like I really only bleed on days where I do something to cause my lower belly to have the pins and needles/tingling sensation. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal for this stage or should I follow up before my next appointment?
Crushed a bug, lots of blood! Risk of bloodborne pathogen???
Hi,
I just killed an insect (large, black, flying - but too big to be a mosquito, maybe) in my car, and so much blood got onto my dashboard. Then, I wiped it up with a paper towel, and there was a lot of blood.
I don’t know what type of insect it was, so I don’t know if it bites humans or not. I don’t know if the blood inside the insect belonged to the insect, or was from a recently bitten human being. To cover my bases, I’ll assume it was human blood.
A bite would be no risk; however, is crushing a bug and getting blood onto your hands (especially if you have hangnails/disturbed skin) a risk of a blood borne pathogen?
Thank you!
Clicked a link and logged in via FaceID - risk of account compromise?
Hi,
If a user clicked the link in an email and logged in to their account via saved passwords and Face IS (Apple/iOS), can their account be compromised?
The user did not type in their email or password, but I’m unsure if Face ID transmits that information to the website regardless.
At this time, the password has been reset.
How do I know that postpartum endometritis is actually gone?
Hi,
I had a C-section, and the first few days of recovery was great! Then, it turned into intense lower belly pain, tenderness, difficulty urinating, and dark brown discharge. I was treated for postpartum endometritis and given three antibiotics via IV for “24 hours,” but the antibiotics finished less than 24 hours after I was admitted!
The symptoms have largely went away, but I do feel a burning feeling on one side of my lower belly/incision when I make certain movements, I’m still a bit constipated and when I go (bowel movement), I see light pink blood and/or mucous blood when I wipe. How can I be for sure that the endometritis was treated effectively?
Thank you!
Risk for (unintentionally) shared Medela caps/membranes?
On postpartum, a nurse brought me a Medela symphony breast pump and a new kit.
She opened my kit, picked up my tubing, removed the membranes/caps and put the tubing into membranes/caps already on the machine. I used the machine as such for 3 days.
After returning to the hospital for a separate issue, I was given the same pump for accommodation of my pumping schedule. This time, I had to put my entire tubing with the caps/membranes on the machine, so this is how I learned that the membrane/caps should be discarded after each use.
What risk was using it as the first nurse gave it to me for me and my baby? When should we be tested?
😔
Did I open an internal stitch? Did the antibiotics not work?
Hi,
I had a C-section 10 days ago. My recovery immediately post-op and for three days in the hospital was wonderful. No pain, discharge became scant to none before leaving, able to move, bend, walk, etc.
On days 6-7, I developed increasing pain between my scar and bellybutton, thick brown on/off discharge, immense lower belly fullness and tenderness, and discomfort when urinating (due to the lower belly pressing on the bladder, or feeling like it is). To be clear, my actual incision has healed beautifully and is not infected.
I went back to the hospital and I was given three antibiotics for like 12-24 hours to combat any infection picked up during surgery. The pain and discomfort is still here, and it hurts to laugh, sit, and move about easily. I can’t sleep on my sides. I had an ultrasound that showed normal healing for this many days postpartum from a C-section. Blood work is normal.
I really don’t want this infection to spread or affect my future fertility. I’m not sure what else to do or what else to request. Does anyone have any advice? I wonder if I opened up an internal layer? (I was driving frequently in the first few days and 45+ mins, but I was never told not to)
Thank you!
Returned Wearable Pumps
Hi,
I really need a wearable pump, so I purchased one from Target.
In doing research, I discovered just how many people think it’s fine to return USED pumps. I understand the cost to loss ratio if it doesn’t work out, but this is something that should absolutely never be returned!
Anyway, I picked up a MomCozy from Target and it has the plastic around the box. Does anyone know if that means it’s safe, or would they re-plastic a returned “unopened/unused” pump?
I don’t want to put myself or my baby at risk!
Thank you
How to know if I opened INTERNAL stitches?
Hi,
I had a C-section a week ago, and I was up moving, bending, and walking a few hours later.
Days 5, 6, and 7 post C-section, I started driving again (mainly back and forth to the hospital, but also small errands close by and along the way). I did ask an OB about it before I was discharged, and she had no concerns, so I’ve been driving. Besides driving, I coughed a few times after slightly choking on something I ate and I’ve been laughing a lot. I didn’t have anything to splint with at the time, especially the coughs which caught me by surprise.
For the most part, I haven’t needed pain medication at all. I started feeling a weird, sort of hardening near my bellybutton (not sure if it’s always been there) and distinct pain in that area when laughing. I thought I also felt a sensation similar to the flow of water on my left side yesterday. My incision is still intact, but how could I know if I opened up the incisions/stitches internally??? Today, my belly is tender and feels heavy but my incision looks great!
Thank you

I don’t even know… has anyone ever had early onset FGR/possible pre-E and made it to 39w?
Hi,
I am 26 weeks pregnant, and I noticed that my blood pressure was elevated from my baseline (130s/80s instead of 110s/60s). It was 140s/90s in office, and I was sent for prolonged fetal monitoring. I’m also dealing with severe FGR.
Besides the BP and FGR, I had no symptoms. I received q15 BP checks for a few hours. My bloodwork and urine were normal. I woke up in the middle of the night and I feel like behind my eye (on the side of the BP checks) has pain. 2-3/10, but noticeable. Should I go back to the ER/L&D Triage? I also only slept for two hours but I’m so nervous about everything that I stayed up after getting up to pee.
My BPs were mostly 140s/90s, then 130s/80s, some 120s/70s and crept back up to 130s/80s, so I wasn’t officially diagnosed with anything, but I was told to expect frequent monitoring, increased appointments, and even more ultrasounds.
37 weeks is what I have heard, and I will do what’s in my baby’s best health. However, has anyone ever been dealing with anything similar so early and able to make it to 39 weeks?
Edit: I woke up overnight with eye pain and a slight on/off headache on my one side the entire day. I will likely go back to triage to be checked again tomorrow, but should I request BP meds?
