I was hired in June and was told I would be starting this October however I’ve now been told that the next openings for welder training are pushed out until February/March/April.
I applied all the way back in April. Are they really that backed up?
When I was given my start date I reminded my coordinator that it coincides with a vacation I have had planned prior to interview.
They told me everything is fine and gave me a new start date for later in the month.
Fast forward to a couple days ago they called me and told me my start date was moved up and I said hey that’s not gonna work for me dog, I’m heading home from vacation on that day.
They said no problem we will figure it out.
I’ve called every day since for a status update and now they have nothing for me.
I leave for the trip in three days and won’t have cell service and now I have no idea when my start date will be.
I also have a definitive end date at my current employer so I could be without pay for who knows how long now.
How cooked am I?
I’m new to this, and I don’t have any prior knowledge. I don’t know anything about the trades or how to weld, or read blueprints. I start my training in 2 weeks. I’m worried that if I don’t catch on quickly, they’ll fire me. Not really sure what to do in this situation. I’ve asked here before and have gotten views but no responses so I’m a bid concerned with the situation.
Hi everyone. I submitted my security clearance paperwork 4 weeks ago and still haven’t received an interim clearance. I believe I’m likely to be denied one. Will I likely have a rescinded offer if I am denied interim? I was told 6 months to get my clearance or theyd withdraw my offer but from recent posts it seems like they have been withdrawing their offers for a denied interim. I’d rather not lose my current job by having an INV form 41 show up. Is this something that commonly happens? Is there anyone here that got denied interim but managed to end up working at EB anyways?
I’m starting in November. The onboarding PDF lists an older ASTM standard, but my boots are composite toe and meet ASTM F2413-24. I was told by a recent hire that composite toes aren't allowed only steel toe. Can anyone confirm if composite toe is fine, or do I need to buy new steel toes before I start? Thanks!
Currently a full time EB engineer M-F 40 hours but am looking to work 7 days a week. Any way I can get a part time position working on the shipyard ?

Yesterday me and my class was given the rundown on "now that we're employees, we got some more paper work to do." My question is about the benefits portal and the w4 shenanigans. It redirects me to fidelity, which I used for a previous job, and the kicker is it still thinks I'm with them. I'm flipping through the packet and can't find anywhere that tells me what to do if I've been on fidelity before. Has this happened to anyone else, if so how'd you go about it? It's frustrating not seeing the thing the packet shows.
