I’m working on a digital painting and experimenting with some brushes in Krita. It’s still a work in progress, but I think it has potential.
The Combine have a similar "biomechanical" type of style similar to Giger's work, but the Combine also made the Stalkers by experimenting on humans and fusing some of their alien tech with their bodies too. That's just what I think, though. :)
Don't know if this really counts, but one thing I like to do sometimes is take pictures of some cool looking cloud shapes that I find interesting, and try to make something based on the shape. This cloud in particular made me think of something "organic" and alien looking similar to Giger's art, so I was also inspired by the Derelict ship from the original Alien film too!! :)
Incredible books for exploring Giger’s artistic journey. It’s fascinating to see how, in the beginning, his work was much more expressionistic and experimental, gradually evolving into the unique fusion of anatomy, machinery, and architecture that would become his signature biomechanical style.
Based on Bacon's triptych: "Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion"
I was working on this for so long lol. It's Airbrush acrylics and color pencil. It still needs to be sealed but I'm happy with the results
Slide 1 is Genesis Device II, fluorescent acrylic and clay on canvas 48x60", 2025.
Slide 2 is Genesis Device I, ink on illustration board 27x40", 2012.
Okay I'll admit right here and now these were heavily influenced by Giger's work, but I tried to take it in a different direction. It's not airbrushed, I know. It's also way too colorful to be part of his nightmares but the biomechanical landscapes moved me and I wanted to add my own voice to it. I used the clay so that the work would be lifted up off of the canvas and into 3-dimensional space. The goal behind that decision was so that Artificial Intelligence could not duplicate it. I leave it to you to decide if this is unique or derivative.
Just got back from Switzerland. Big thanks to the friendly people at Giger Bar allowing me to take a few pictures. Awesome trip, amazing museum & bar!
When I was a kid, my mom gave me a book of concept illustrations for Star Wars. As a kid I was really disappointed because they looked only vaguely like the movie. Only later as I became aware did I realize the significance of these illustrations and their artist H. R. Geiger . . . or so I thought. I learned today that, at least according to the internet, Geiger never did concept art for Star Wars. Did I hallucinate that as a nine year old? Would that have been another artist? It sure looks like Geiger in my memory. Please, someone, tell me my life has not been a lie.
