Could ren be be tinted with other emotions or feelings besides bloodlust and malice?

Could you tint ren with say love or arousal to seduce a target?

Or indifference to make them ignore you?

I honestly think its possible but such an extremely high level nen technique that only top tiers like netero or ging can use it.

I think thats how netero hides his enormous power from other nen users. Hisoka could feel illumis aura without even looking at him and your telling me he couldnt have sensed neteros.

Also ging has one of the worst personalities to be a team player yet he can get into teams like the original archeologist team he got into or the way his greed island friends still do his work. I also think thats how he got into the dark continent expedition team.

Questions about Izunavi's explanation (ch 83)

I'm basing this of with the image's translation, any corrections/clarifications on it will be appreciated.

  1. When Izunavi says acquire Specialization was he pertaining to a talent that is available to a bloodline of Specialists, or Conjurers, or Manipulators?

  2. Can members of the Kurta that are not a Conjurer/Manipulator/Specialist when their eyes turn Scarlet, also aquire this talent/bloodline trait of temporarily becoming a Specialist? And as a follow up, when Kurapika does enter his Scarlet Eyes, it's when he makes his pledge of suicide if he ever breaks his pledge. Is this development more important for combining the bloodline trait and nen into becoming a Specialist?

  3. If a Kurta member is born a Specialist will this person be born with Scarlet Eyes? And they'll have to do the opposite of the other members, they got to figure out how to turn off their Scarlet Eyes. Or if they are still born with brown eyes, once their eyes turn Scarlet what type of power does the Kurta member manifest? Unless of course these Specialist born Kurta members once they activate their Scarlet Eyes it becomes permanent.

  4. Not really a hunter hunter question but for making an OC, what bloodline trait is best associated with this transformation to Specialist? Besides the combination of emotions and the change of eye color, of course, unless that's the only depiction that's available in lore.

Anyways, that's it for me today.

[Inner Revolution]

Name: [Inner Revolution]

Type: Manipulation

- Allows user to imbude any objects they touch with aura that enforces rotational movement.

- This ability can be activated at direct contact or approximate contact (e.g. through clothes) and can be near-instantenious. It works on both living and non-living things.

- The rotation can only happen in one dimension and one direction at a time after a single touch. The speed of the rotation depends on user's aura control, intent and the amount of aura imbuded into the object. The duration of the rotation also depends on the amount of aura imbuded, which in turn depends on the duration of the initial contact (albeit not linearly).

- The potential uses include making spinning projectiles and improvised cutting saws, suddenly rotating opponents in space to startle and disorientatate them, possibly breaking objects if the rotation is enforced despite lack of space/mobilty (e.g. spinning a door out of the doorframe), and lastly, on a high enough level of mastery, twisting specific parts of an object relative to the rest of it (e.g. twisting and breaking an opponent's limbs, given that their own aura defense is weak enough).

You have to make a hatsu to train gon to become as strong as adult gon. What kind of hatsu do you make?

You have to train gon when he is 12 years old and at the start of the series. You also cant make a ability that will sacrifice his lifespan.

Questions about Razor's Dodgeball Spike ability

Preface. (I shouldn't be writing this but just to be safe)

I'm a Transmuter, I'm always confused when it comes to Manipulation and to some extent Emission. Please bare with my questions, I'm here to learn about Nen, since I barely understand Manipulation nor Emission.

End of Preface.

So I'm guessing that Razor either has to touch a dodgeball then Emit his aura to the ball (possible to incorporate manipulation or enhancement) or shape his emitted aura into a ball (emission+transmutation). This is from the 2nd pic and any instance during the Dodgeball game at Greed Island.

My question lies into if Razor Conjured a Dodgeball or a simple ball, during the 1st picture, which doesn't seem that complex if he has been playing Dodgeball since his stay in Greed Island.

  1. What rules will make it a decent boost to his already loaded set of skills? (For the Conjured Dodgeball coated with emission aura with possibilities for manipulation such as changing directions)

My take with Razor's existing emission of a ball then tossing it into the air then spiking is that, as a standalone emission ability without conjuration he has to be able to hit just as hard to send the emitted ball of aura flying where he wants it to go without losing power on the spike, so looking back if the emitted aura also formed a conjured ball then he is able to have contact with the ball with a set of rules to allow it to be tossed and then spiked.

Separate question, and in general for Razor's emission/transmutation or manipulation for the dodgeball throw or spikes

  1. If Razor misses with his existing dodgeball throw (emission ability) does he ever suffer from a penalty? Outside of losing possession in a game of dodgeball, in combat should this user suffer a penalty? Besides being wide open after a miss, should this user be further penalized?

  2. The Emission ball when spiked needs to spin. An emitted aura shaped like a ball, can it by itself spin? This is why I think the 1st pic had to have been a Conjuration of the ball. Otherwise making the emitted ball spin after contact and with applied force might be manipulation, but conceptually as a Transmuter myself I find the concept to be difficult to picture out. Like, how do you make your emitted aura behave like a real object?

And this is why I'm asking to learn if my ideas makes sense or if I'm just struggling to learn Emission and Manipulation.

Anyways I saw a Razor pic from the 1st picture and it got me thinking, I need to rewatch the scene and I'm kinda in the impression that Razor had at least a lvl 4 or any basic Conjuration skill proficiency to create a simple ball or a dodgeball. Then using his ability to make it a powerful Emission ability + incorporations of Manipulation/Enhancement.

Please do teach me where I got things wrong, any corrections are appreciated.

What nen category would phasing through matter fall under and how heavy would the conditions be?

An idea that I have to activate this hatsu is to cover parts of their body that they wish matter to phase through like their head, limbs, or torso.

Spirit Divination

A person you love very dearly is detained, unjustifiably, in a highly fortified facility. What is your course of action?

A)

I’d go immediately. Read the situation in real time, trust my instincts, and overpower obstacles as they appear.

B)

I’d improvise. Maybe disguise myself, create a strange distraction, or exploit an unusual weakness nobody expected.

C)

I’d prepare the exact tools, resources, or conditions necessary so success becomes inevitable once the plan begins.

D)

I’d use people. Persuade guards, build relationships and infiltrate from within.

E)

I’d scout the facility extensively first, testing boundaries, probing defenses, searching for openings or expansion routes.

F)

I’d use whatever methods were necessary — even if it meant abandoning everything else along the way.

I think moving/ shaping aura does require manipulation, but it likely doesnt take much skill to get practical use out of it.

So basically i keep seeing people talk about how they dont think you need manipulation to move aura around, but the more i have seen that the more i feel compelled to disagree. To put it in the most basic context i believe that Gyo and Ko inherantly use enhancement, and that your skill in enhancement develops via your use of these techniques even if you never otherwise train in enhancement. I partially beleive this due to the fact that Ko enhances the offensive/defensive power of any nen user who makes use if it, and there really isnt a better explanation for why pure enhancers can do more damage with it then anyone else.

However if we can assume that the use of nen is in many ways grounded in the practical aspects of the various hatsu types it seems to make a great deal of sense reguarding what we consistantly see characters do. Now i can probably get into each nen use from basic to advanced and point out which hatsu seem to affect which aspects, but im pretty sure nobody woyld read that if I did. Instead i want to make a few simple points on the matter, in the hopes of changing peoples minds.

-It is likely shaping/directing aura in simpler ways takes far less specialized training and likely less overall skill to actually achieve. To put it another way it is like the differance between knife throwing and tossing a paper ball in the trashcan, one takes a great deal of practice and training and the other is something that most people can do if somewhat inconsistantly.

-It is likely that in order to form a shape with your aura you require manipulation or conjuration, in the case of manipulation i am implying that forming and potentially holding a shape without that shape being real is what requires manipulation. We see Bisky shaping her aura into numbers when she first trains Gon and Killua, and while im willing to accept that she transmuted her aura into something rigid rnough to hold it's shape that doesnt explain how that shape is formed. Transmuters can force their aura to simulate and alter the nature of real life properties, forces, and substances, there is no substances which naturally want to form into the shape of a number to my knowledge. The only way that makes sense is if she first forms the shape of the aura then transmutes it to hold the shape (same thing with Gon's Janken-scissors btw).

-With reguards to the last point i would like to point out that Bisky likely has around 40% affinity with manipulation, and if the previous point is correct, she only uses it in extremely basic ways overall. While she likely does use some form of manipulation for her hatsu Cookie, its likely that Cookie only works via utilizing preexisting knowledge on related subjects. In other words she is programmed like a machine so she likely cannot be used on nonhumans or really any creature Bisky doesnt have knowledge of reguarding their biology. Much like a CNC machine she cant perform actions she isnt programmed for, but she will absolutely do an amazing job at what she is programmed for. This would also explain why killua jumps over his opponents when he uses his thunderbolt, he not only extends his aura to his target via manipulation he also uses the properties of electricity to do some of the the heavy lifting.

-The last major thing i want to put here is a comparison to Shoot (who i want to beleive is a manipulator or emitter but i really cant find any direct info on that at this point) and what Bisky and Killua can do. Firstly i want to point out that Shoot's bird cage and seperate hands arent specifically anchored to a relative point outside of maybe his body itself. Instead there may or may not be a set limited range, but reguardless he can manipulate the relative position of all three hands and the bird cage in space in real time. Not only is the level of manipulation more complicated then what bisky or killua ever do, he actively can also manipulate multiple objects effectively without their flight paths interrupting eachother. I think the difference in affinity and lack of deicated training in that area can more then account for the limited abilities of nen users who are further from manipulation.

-Small note here about nen beasts with their own personality(this is slightly irrelevent), Kite's crazy slots didnt use much manipulation since he had low affinity with it (probably around 50% affinity if togashi's chart is to be believed). I beleive that his low affinity with manipulation is what results in the clown's "annoying" personality, Kite literally has no control over when it speaks or what it will say even finding his helpful commentary to be annoying and wishing it would shut up. I think that low affinity with manipulation may actually be a condition for autonomously thinking or acting nen beasts.

Make a new Hatsu for Gon and Killua.

Last night I remembered that me and my best friend always did this thought experiment when we were watching HxH for the first time...our ideas when we were 13 years old were NOT good let me tell you all that.

I got curious about what more people would have in their mind.

This challenge is not really a "make the best possible Hatsu for the kids" and more like "what other alternative they could have come up with realistically-ish".So no crazy baked in conditions and drawbacks or super complicated mechanics, specially for Gon.

Create a rage-baiting ability that focuses on taunting or counterattacking the target

Bonus brownie points if you can make an enhancer pull this off. (RIP Kastro, sometimes we can still hear his voice)

If it's from a Transmuter, you don't have to make a thematically functional aura quality that depicts rage or rage baiting; feel free to create whatever comes to mind.

It's been a while since I last posted in this sub, so this is more of a I'm still lurking in this sub from time to time kind of post.

do yall think emission is accurately defined on the nen table?

on the nen table(at least in the english translation) emission is defined as ‘detaching aura from one’s body. the only problem is that every single nen category does this. enhancers can use their nen on tools, transmuters like killua can throw their aura(lightning in his case) at people without using emission depending on what their aura is altered into, manipulators can control foreign objects without using emission, and conjurors who are literally on the other end of the nen table use their nen to manifest objects which are 9/10 away from or detaching from their person. so what is an emitter REALLY. personally i think the definition should be ‘transmitting or projecting aura’ being that emission can do anything from making simple aura projectiles like gon’s paper and pokkle’s rainbow quiver, to creating nen beasts such as razor’s devils to literally ripping holes in and phasing through space like leorio and knov. so i ask again, what is an emitter REALLY?

do convenient restrictions give less hatsu-buff than normal restriction?

for example: im a master swordsman who's excellent at a specific style of swordsmanship. i use my conjuration to make a sword that can only do damage if i use the specific fighting style that im excellent at. thus giving myself a restriction that doesnt hold me back in the least. is that kind of restriction inefficient compared to other normal restriction that can affect you? like if i did the opposite and restricted my conjured sword to doing damage when im NOT using my favored fighting style , does the fact that im putting myself at a big disadvantage with not using my preffered swordstyle give me a greater hatsu-buff than normal?

dumb question

probably dumb question but how can you do this kind of levitating type of flight? there are some characters that can fly like zeno, shoot, youpi but they either use somenthing else to fly or make wings, tsubone too but she needs someone else

so could i make my aura has the propreties of "light"? or conjure a bubble around myself that floats through air? or manipulating my own body even if it sounds like it wouldnt work, also would it burn a lot of aura?

Executive Order (perfect aura control)

I was going to have it also sap life like Emperor time but I felt that would be too harsh

u/The_Kashimo_Agenda — 4 days ago

Conjured nen beasts are more practical for all nen users.

So it’s a common belief that all emitters use emitted nen beast. Many fans believe that emitters separate a piece of aura, use transmutation to shape it and then give it instructions with manipulation.

But transmutation constantly drains your aura, and while conjuration may be inefficient for emitters once they’ve conjured it they lose the burden of supplying it with aura. It can function like a “battery” and disappear after a certain time as demonstrated by Hinrigh.

How does Bungee Gum work?

So to preface, I have questions about bungee gum, mixed with my own interpretation of the ability, some ideas that I have if I were to create my own version of it. I only know information up until the Chrollo vs Hisoka fight in Heaven's Arena.

My curiosity lies with how Hisoka doesn't look like he ever gets tired or fatigued when using his ability. So I have this assumption, bungee gum isn't emitted rather it simply stretches, and that the sticky property let's the aura stay solid and unified in it's own way while remaining elastic. Hence this leads me to believe that the ability stays connected to Hisoka even if normally it takes a lot of concentration to focus aura into a single point and then aiming at the target by pointing at them and firing the ability like a projectile, or using contact to directly apply it.

So my questions are:

  1. If I were to recreate bungee gum without leveling it up/making my own nen stronger via killing my desired targets in a fair fight after they've gotten stronger, and letting them know about bungee gum. What conditions would be needed to make bungee gum strong enough to be used against a stronger opponent? The situation would be, If I were to face off Knuckle with Gon's current level during their fight for the selection of fighters to join the CA raid.

  2. Can Bungee Gum be enhanced? Or simply the aura on it's own has to be driven by the user's own willpower to be just as formidable as Hisoka's?

  3. If my own Bungee Gum is to be conjured, will I need manipulation and rules to make it less stressful to manage? Or will it need to be constantly be used with IN so it becomes a confusing ability to decipher.

Separate from my own question but my own interpretation of Hisoka's ability. As a conjured version of the ability, bungee gum can have both the properties of rubber and gum via transmutation, and at the same time it can be applied as a rule based nen construct that functions the same way. The rules being, if I announce how Bungee Gum works, I am allowed to use it as a conjuration nen construct, while using texture surprise to fake it as transmuted aura, and if I'm able to hit the target with this conjured version of the bungee gum ability it becomes harder to remove with nen or by physical means (enhancement). And the trickiest condition is that the target has to believe that bungee gum is a transmuter ability, "the properties of both rubber and gum" is both iconic, explicitly stated and feels like a trick inside of a trick. And the trick is that it has 2 versions, the transmuted version and the conjured version. You won't be able to tell them apart as the conditions will be met and the user looks like they're only using the same ability but at a much more potent and stronger effect when Bungee Gum is announced and the conjured version is used and applied to the target. And you probably won't have time to think on your feet, when the psychotic killer pulls you close, or asks a question to distract you.

I guess I'm only asking the 3 questions as a means to either confirm my interpretation of the ability or to start over from scratch.

Anyways, let me know if I'm on the right track or if I need to learn more about transmutation and by extension conjuration. Hisoka has been a tricky prospect to study and learn from, so I think his own abilities has some form of misdirection. Hisoka having texture surprise feels more of a threat than bungee gum by itself as it multiplies his own creativity and forms of deception while in combat or as an artist in his own twisted way.

I plan to make my own ability to be centered around paper as a Transmuter, so Hisoka's playing cards and Kalluto's ability has been a good reference for me. Anyways, I'm excited to make my own Hatsu lol. My inspiration is Konan and Deidara from Naruto so any advice will be appreciated.

My Original Character

I have trouble finalizing the hatsu build for my OC. I already have a general idea of what it would be, it's just that tying everything up thematically is quite difficult.

And I wonder, if I provide a character summary and my OC's natural nen affinity, would we arrive at similar nen abilities.

So I challenge you to create a hatsu build using this backstory:

Name: Minamoto Springz

Affinity: Emission-Enhancement

Character Summary:

Minamoto grew up in a developing country blessed with picturesque landscapes and natural wonders. Wherever he goes, he notices the same truth repeating itself: water, in all its forms, is the quintessence of nature and life. It shapes the background and foreground of every scenery, giving it punch and depth; provides movement to stillness and connects different elements with each other, giving them all-encompassing vitality; enriches beauty with sight's, sounds, smells, tastes and touch,, making experiences memorable. From vast oceans to quiet creeks; from mist and dew to hail, snow, and rain; from the skies above to the hidden rivers beneath the earth—even the currents beneath the ocean itself—water was everywhere. Cold springs, hot springs, wine born from fertile soil and flowing rivers… to Minamoto, water was the source of life, beauty, and flavor itself.

As a practitioner of Nen and martial arts, he developed a profound fascination with it. Water felt mystical—adaptable yet relentless, gentle yet capable of carving mountains apart. Drawn by that affinity, he decided to base his Nen around water and its countless properties.

And like every martial arts lunatic chasing enlightenment, he chose to train in the one place where water was most scarce: the desert.

Armed with nothing but two spatially-expanded jugs—one filled with water, the other with wine—he set out alone.

At first, his training consisted of meditation. Beneath the merciless desert sun, he sat still for hours, trying to sense the faint traces of water molecules suspended in the dry air. Later came real combat. To survive, he hunted dangerous desert beasts, forcing himself to fight efficiently while preserving stamina and supplies. At night, he searched for shelter against the desert’s biting cold, maintaining Ten without rest until dawn.

Then, after a sudden epiphany, he did something completely insane.

He emptied his jug of clean water onto the sand.

Only the wine was spared—for “special occasions.”

From that point onward, survival depended entirely on his Nen. By extending his En, he learned to sense microscopic traces of moisture in the atmosphere. He enhanced those particles, increasing their volume, then manipulated them drop by drop until they gathered in his cupped hands, finally able to quench his thirst. At first, the process was clumsy and wasteful. But desperation is a ruthless teacher. Through repeated crises, his efficiency in Emission, Enhancement, and Manipulation evolved at an explosive pace.

He devoted himself religiously to the training. Day after day, he shed not only water, but sweat, blood, and tears.

One freezing night, after hours of meditation and mental reverie, Minamoto opened his eyes to find ice forming from the water he had suspended in the air with his aura.

He was stunned.

For months afterward, he tried to reproduce the phenomenon deliberately. Every night, he submerged his hands into buckets of water, studying the sensation of cold and attempting to understand the process. Yet no matter what he did, he could not recreate it intentionally.

Eventually, he journeyed to the Polar Zones, a deadly region named after a ferocious species of bear, hoping to push his Nen even further. There, he discovered the answer: water froze not because of “cold,” but because of the absence of heat and movement.

Still, he faced a strange limitation.

He could transmute water into mist effortlessly. He could sharpen it into slicing threads or polish its surface until it reflected like a perfect mirror. Yet turning it into ice remained impossible. It was as though his mind itself rejected the concept.

So, in another act of madness, Minamoto reached a terrifying conclusion:

If ice was born from the absence of heat… then perhaps it was akin to Zetsu—the absence of aura.

With no Nen protecting his body, he meditated in the hellish cold.

And then, enlightenment came.

Or perhaps possession.

At last, he succeeded.

He could finally turn water into ice.

But only while in a state of Zetsu.

The realization crushed him. A technique unusable in combat was nearly worthless to a fighter.

Desperate and teetering on the edge of insanity, Minamoto traveled to the coldest place on Earth. There, he carved a hole into the frozen wasteland and submerged his right arm into a mysterious “liquid that never freezes.” While maintaining Zetsu, he offered a final prayer to the Nen gods:

“I don’t care anymore. Just do something.”

Something answered.

When he emerged, his right hand had become black as the deepest abyss, radiating an otherworldly cold and an ominous presence that no longer felt human.

It was both a blessing and a curse.

The blessing: he could now freeze not only water, but even aura itself.

The curse: he had traded away a piece of his humanity. Whenever he entered Zetsu, the frozen corruption spread further across his body, slowly consuming him. Someday, he knew, nothing human would remain.

But Minamoto cared less than he probably should have.

After all, he still have his wine beside him... which he could perfectly chill to his liking.

And with that alone, he felt as though he could take on the entire world.

Hobby

Minamoto loves sampling wine from every country he visits, treating each bottle as a taste of that land’s history and soul. During training journeys, he creates his own wines by fermenting the flesh of magical beasts he defeats together with exotic plants he forages—especially poisonous or dangerous ones. Using purified water and careful Nen control, he transforms lethal ingredients into bizarre, often powerful wines with flavors no ordinary brewer could ever replicate.

Make a hatsu for a vigilante

The vigilante is kind of like a merge between punisher and spiderman (willing to kill absolutely despicable criminal but has an incredibly pure heart and will try to help them if he can). Make a hatsu for him to fight crime.

Why are people on this sub against training?

I get that some abilities are near impossible to execute without conditions but abilities like creating fire arrows require ZERO conditions unless you want them to be super strong.

Why is it so uncommon on this subreddit for simple low aura cost abilities you get nerfed by their users? It’s like giving bungee gum a stretch limit of 4 feet, it just makes the ability worse.
