Duct Shields

The user conjures shields or barriers from their aura that are beige in color and possess a disturbingly realistic skin like texture, complete with subtle pores and hair follicles. The constructs are roughly one and a half meters in height and width, though their size can be adjusted upon creation. If they are ever broken and later reformed, they permanently retain realistic scars and stretch marks that make their damage history visually obvious to anyone who sees them.

Upon conjuration, fleshy cables shoot out from the sides of the shield and anchor themselves into the surrounding environment, such as walls, floors, ceilings, or large objects. The user can also actively direct these cables to anchor into a specific target, like an opponent's limb or weapon. These cables serve as a force redistribution network, meaning that when the shield or the cables themselves are struck, the force is transferred directly into whatever the cables are anchored to. The shield itself is more durable than any single cable because it can distribute force across multiple anchor points simultaneously. If an anchor point suffers too much damage and becomes unstable, the cables will loosen and the shield's defensive capacity will decrease significantly.

If a blow is powerful enough to overwhelm the shield's ability to transfer force through its cables, the barrier will not simply shatter. Instead, it bends and unthreads, unraveling into a mass of blood red, slimy wires that writhe and contort as they attempt to pull themselves back together. During this unraveling process, the skin like surface ripples grotesquely, making the regeneration visually disturbing. This repair process takes a few seconds.

Regardless of whether the shield sustains any actual damage, every impact triggers a horrifying auditory response. The construct emits a wet, guttural scream that sounds like a wounded animal mixed with the sound of tearing flesh. This scream is loud enough to be disorienting in close quarters and serves as a psychological layer of defense, designed to startle, disgust, or demoralize opponents into hesitating or flinching during combat. This feature can be toggled off or on through direct touch by the user.

Pizza Pizza

Conjuration + Manipulation

You conjure a pizza nen beast. Anyone who eats its pizza falls under the pizzas control until it digests. The pizza can also conjure condiments, extend large amounts of cheese for various purposes like sticky grappling, create a large amount of sauce, and make itself very hot.

Aura smell

Considering that he seems to have only enhanced his sense of smell, then the aura has a unique scent for each category, and that scent subtly changes upon developing an ability.

It's interesting that the aura has a smell, as it is a natural property.

I can just imagine Dogman training his ability: first, separating people by category to learn the smell of each one; then, separating them into those with developed abilities and those without, and once again smelling and memorizing each scent and the differences.

It must have been amusing to watch him train.

Borksen’s Specialist Ability Theory <> Morena May Want Her to Upgrade Contagion

I think Borksen’s eventual ability could be something designed specifically to interact with Morena’s Contagion.

Morena said she needs a Specialist for a particular purpose, which makes me think she isn't simply looking for another powerful fighter. She may want an ability capable of improving something that Contagion itself cannot do.

My theory is that leveling through Contagion increases a member’s aura reserves and output, with Level 100 bringing them to the limit of their natural potential in those areas.

But that doesn't necessarily mean they would also have the Nen proficiency of someone who spent decades mastering Nen. They could have enormous reserves and output while still lacking the technical mastery needed to use that power efficiently.

That could be the gap Morena wants Borksen to fill.

Ability: Perfect Partner <> Symbiotic Evolution

Type: Specialist

 • Borksen chooses one Nen user to become her partner.
 • Both Borksen and the target must willingly agree on one specific way the partner’s Nen ability will be strengthened.
 • Borksen can only have one partner at a time. She cannot use the ability on herself or choose another partner while the current one is alive. Only when that partner dies can she use the ability again on someone else.
 • The enhancement lasts for as long as Borksen remains alive. If Borksen dies, the boost immediately disappears and the partner’s ability returns to its original state.

With restrictions that severe, the boost could be incredibly powerful.

Why Morena wants it

Morena would choose herself as Borksen’s partner and have her permanently modify Contagion.

The improvement would be simple:

Every level now increases Nen proficiency alongside aura reserves and output.

So while normal Contagion might bring someone at Level 100 to the maximum aura reserves and output their natural potential allows, the upgraded version would also push their Nen proficiency toward its maximum possible level.

At Level 100, they wouldn't just have the aura of a fully developed Nen user. They would have reached Ultimate-level proficiency as well.

That would be terrifying.

Morena could take ordinary people with almost no Nen experience and, through enough kills, accelerate not only decades of aura growth but potentially decades of Nen training too.

It would also explain why she specifically needs a Specialist. Borksen doesn't need to develop some unrelated broken ability, Morena may already know exactly what Contagion is missing and wants Borksen to complete it.

Toggleable Phantom Limbing Prostheses & Inanimate Object Filling Hatsu.

This hatsu fills in the gaps of what something once was, whenever you touch the reduced remains of said object(s).

Imagine passing airport security with just the ostensibly innocuous handles of what used to be a knife, katana, kunai, gun, hammer, gardening trowel, and ice pick in a trench coat like Inspect Gadget.

Whenever you grab a specific handle, your aura will Transmutate into the lost blade, hook, or whatever business end the object once had.

Let's say you're driving your car in a bad neighborhood at night, and there are a lot of treacherous potholes.

This hatsu reflexively uses your aura to automatically fill the potholes so your tires and suspension have a smooth ride and don't get absolutely shredded and bent out of shape.

It can also function for makeshift prostheses like your leg gettinf blown off by a landmine, and now you have a phantom leg made of your own aura to stand and walk.

Enhancement Hatsu: Iron Regimen

https://preview.redd.it/5f21cd9htakh1.png?width=447&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2488abaa423b67d2d941d324fc0e49e07d98f89

A little preamble

This is a very boring Hatsu. It's not a flashy "My punch destroys mountains" of Gon and Uvogin. Not a conditional "Wind my fist to punch harder" of Phinks. This is essentially the hatsu of someone like Saitama. 100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 squats, 10 km run, every single day... Become strong.

I think it's a good exploration into Enhancement because most of the time what comes to mind is an immediate effect. An immediate boost for a given cost. This is more of a bodybuilder Hatsu. An eventual result as a consequence of, well, an iron regimen.

Hatsu: Iron Regimen

Nen Type: Enhancement

Iron Regimen is not the Hatsu's formal name. When asked about it, the user simply explains that he “follows an iron regimen.”

The Hatsu enhances the long-term benefits the user receives from disciplined physical and Nen training.

Rather than producing a temporary increase in strength or aura boost upon activation, the ability rewards consistent adherence to a comprehensive personal regimen.

The regimen consists of numerous individually mundane requirements concerning:

 • Strength and conditioning exercises
 • Cardiovascular training
 • Flexibility and mobility
 • Nen training
 • Diet and hydration
 • Sleep
 • Rest and recovery
 • Personal hygiene and health
 • Regularity of daily routine

Each individual requirement provides only a negligible benefit. Their effectiveness comes from fulfilling many conditions simultaneously and maintaining them consistently over long periods.

The resulting Enhancement primarily improves the user's physical development, recovery, conditioning and efficiency of ordinary Enhancement. Consequently, the user's strength is not a temporary transformation: his normal physical condition is the product of the Hatsu.

Steeled Consistency

The Hatsu rewards consistency rather than intensity.

Performing additional training does not compensate for previously neglected requirements.

Excessive exercise may violate the regimen if it interferes with scheduled recovery, nutrition or sleep.

Maintaining the regimen continuously causes its cumulative benefits to gradually increase. Days, weeks, months and years of uninterrupted discipline produce increasingly substantial results.

Missing individual requirements causes relatively minor losses. Habitually neglecting or abandoning the regimen gradually erodes its accumulated benefits.

Legitimate adjustments do not necessarily constitute violations. Injury, illness, travel, work and other circumstances may require the regimen to be modified, provided the user deliberately establishes an appropriate replacement schedule and follows it.

Ironclad Routine

The user's regimen is deliberately extensive but otherwise remarkably ordinary. A typical day may include:

 • Waking and sleeping at predetermined times.
 • Morning stretching and mobility exercises.
 • Running and cardiovascular conditioning.
 • Calisthenics and resistance training.
 • Grip, balance and strongman exercises.
 • Ten, Ren, Ken, Ryu and other Nen exercises.
 • Meals of predetermined nutritional composition and portions.
 • Scheduled hydration.
 • Rehearsal and professional duties.
 • Mandatory periods of rest and recovery.

The exact regimen changes according to the user's circumstances and physical needs. Following the plan is more important than any particular exercise contained within it.

Limitations and Conditions

The Hatsu cannot simply be activated to grant the user additional strength. Its benefits must be accumulated through training and discipline.

Extraordinary effort over a short period cannot substitute for long-term consistency.

The greatest benefits require months or years of continuous adherence. Neglecting the regimen gradually diminishes accumulated benefits.

Rest, sleep and proper nutrition are conditions rather than optional conveniences. Ignoring them for additional training is counterproductive.

Practical Effect

Long-term adherence to the regimen dramatically develops the user's total aura reserves, allowing them to sustain enormous aura output and prolonged Nen use without exhaustion.

The user's Enhancement is extraordinarily efficient, converting aura into physical reinforcement with very little waste. Even ordinary Ten, Ken, Ryu and Shu consequently produce exceptional results.

Even with basic Ten, the user gains tremendous strength, toughness, durability and stamina, allowing them to perform extreme feats of strength and withstand punishment that would overwhelm most Nen users.

Enhancement greatly accelerates natural recovery from fatigue, exertion and injury, allowing the user to tolerate extremely demanding workloads and recover considerably faster than normal.

Iron Regimen has no activation state or temporary power-up. Provided the user continues adhering to the regimen, these capabilities constitute their normal physical and Nen condition.

Absolute Aura Bias — A Different Way to Interpret Nen Types

I've been thinking about Nen categories a little differently, and I wanted to put the idea into one post.

My interpretation is that there is a difference between what a Nen category does and what aspect of aura control comes most naturally to a person of that category.

The traditional Nen chart tells us how efficiently a person can use different Nen categories. But I think there is another layer underneath that: what I would call Absolute Aura Bias.

What is Absolute Aura Bias?

A Nen type does not mean that an Enhancer can only enhance, an Emitter can only emit, or a Manipulator can only manipulate.

Nen users can learn and use other categories. The difference is efficiency and natural affinity.

My idea is that every Nen type also has a natural tendency toward a particular aspect of aura mastery.

For example:

\- Enhancement — the highest natural efficiency when converting aura into a tangible result. An Enhancer wastes the least aura when reinforcing something. Reinforcing the body is especially intuitive because you understand your own body better than anything else, but Enhancement itself isn't limited to the body.

\- Emission — naturally excels at extending aura outside the body and maintaining it over distance.

\- Transmutation — naturally excels at concentrating aura and giving it particular characteristics or properties.

\- Manipulation — naturally excels at extremely precise, complex and multi-stream control of aura.

\- Conjuration — naturally excels at giving aura a stable, defined, object-like form and, in my interpretation, constructing complex conditions and rules into that form.

\- Specialization — operates outside the normal structure and produces effects that don't fit the other categories.

These are natural biases, not hard restrictions.

An Enhancer can use Emission. An Emitter can use Enhancement. A Conjurer can use Manipulation.

The difference is that the same process may simply be more natural and efficient for one type than another.

Hatsu vs. Nen as a whole

This is also why I think we should distinguish between Hatsu as a general Nen principle and someone's individual Hatsu ability.

Morel being famous for his smoke-based Hatsu doesn't mean he suddenly loses the ability to use basic Emission.

Likewise, Netero being an Enhancer doesn't mean every individual technique he creates must fundamentally be Enhancement.

Hatsu is the individual expression of one's intent through Nen. Your Nen type influences how you express that intent, but it doesn't erase the underlying mechanics of aura.

A useful analogy is vocal ability.

Someone can naturally be a bass, tenor or baritone. Some people are born with a wider vocal range than others.

A tenor can still learn to sing in a lower register. An opera singer can learn to scream. A rock vocalist can learn classical singing.

Their natural physiology simply makes certain forms of vocal control easier and more efficient.

I think Nen works in a similar way.

Your Nen type determines your natural affinity, while your mastery determines how far you can develop the underlying mechanics of aura.

Basic aura control is not automatically another Nen category

This is probably the most important part of my interpretation.

Ten, Zetsu, Ren, Gyo, Ko, En and other fundamental Nen techniques are forms of general aura control.

You can shape aura, stretch it, compress it, concentrate it, move it, divide it into multiple flows, and so on.

I don't think those actions automatically become Transmutation or Manipulation just because the aura is being reshaped or controlled.

For example, Ko is fundamentally the concentration of aura into one point.

You can then use Enhancement with that concentrated aura to make a powerful attack, but the act of concentrating the aura itself isn't necessarily Enhancement.

Likewise, En involves extending and maintaining aura over an area. If an Emitter naturally excels at that process, that doesn't mean every other Nen user needs to use Emission simply to perform En.

This distinction matters when discussing things like aura shaping.

Bisky's training doesn't necessarily prove that aura shaping = Transmutation

Bisky's training with Gon involves shaping aura into numbers, and she describes it in terms of Transmutation training.

I agree that this is a useful way to train Transmutation.

But I don't think that automatically proves that shaping aura itself inherently requires Transmutation.

The fact that something is a Level 1 Transmutation exercise doesn't necessarily mean that "Level 1 Transmutation" is a universal classification for every possible use of aura shaping.

This becomes even more interesting when we look at Emission training.

The basic Emission exercise involves maintaining a ball of aura outside the body at a distance. That also requires controlling the shape and position of aura.

So my interpretation is:

Transmuters naturally excel at aura shaping, which makes shaping a useful foundation for learning Transmutation. But shaping aura itself is still part of general aura mastery.

The same logic applies to stretching, compressing, concentrating and dividing aura.

Why I think the different types show different kinds of mastery

If Absolute Aura Bias exists, we can actually see traces of it in the series.

Emission — extending aura

Look at strong Emitters and their relationship with distance.

Zeno can extend his aura enormous distances through En, and his Dragon techniques demonstrate an incredible ability to project aura far away from his body.

Netero is an Enhancer, yet his aura extension is also absurd. His meditation demonstrates an enormous range, and the scale of the Guanyin shows just how far he can project and control aura.

Kaito, despite being a Conjurer, also demonstrates strong aura control at range.

The point isn't that only Emitters can do this.

The point is that extension and maintenance of aura over distance seem to be particularly natural areas of mastery for Emitters.

Manipulation — precision and multi-stream control

Morel and Illumi are good examples here.

Both can divide their aura/control into enormous numbers of individual processes.

Morel controls huge numbers of smoke soldiers simultaneously.

Illumi can control large numbers of people using his needles.

This looks less like simply "controlling something" and more like an extraordinary ability to maintain many separate, precise control processes simultaneously.

That's what I would consider the Manipulator's natural aura bias.

Enhancement — efficiency

This one is slightly different.

I don't think the natural bias of Enhancement is simply "being good at strengthening things."

Enhancement is already defined by strengthening things.

The interesting part is efficiency.

Imagine that two Nen users spend 100 units of aura trying to reinforce something.

One might only convert 80 units of that aura into the desired result.

An Enhancer might naturally convert 90 or 95.

In other words, the Enhancer's natural advantage is that less aura is wasted in the conversion from aura expenditure into actual effect.

That also explains why Enhancers are so naturally suited to direct combat.

And yes, reinforcing the body is particularly intuitive because the body is something you understand better than anything else.

But an Enhancer can reinforce much more than their own body.

Transmutation — concentration and properties

For Transmutation, I would associate the natural bias with concentrating aura and changing its characteristics.

That makes things like Hisoka's Bungee Gum a natural extension of this affinity.

But I don't think basic aura compression or shaping automatically requires Transmutation.

Rather, Transmuters are naturally better at pushing those processes further and turning them into actual Transmutation techniques.

Conjuration — stable forms and complex rules

This is where I think Conjuration becomes especially interesting.

Conjurers naturally excel at giving aura a stable, defined, object-like form.

But I also think many of the most elaborate Conjuration abilities demonstrate another tendency: building complex rules, conditions and restrictions into the ability.

The rules themselves obviously aren't exclusive to Conjuration. Any Nen user can make restrictions.

But many elaborate Conjuration abilities combine an object with a complicated system of conditions.

In that sense, Conjuration is somewhat similar to Specialization: it can become extremely elaborate, but the user doesn't have to make it elaborate.

A Conjurer can theoretically just create an object.

A Specialist, however, is defined by operating outside the normal categories.

This also changes how I look at Netero

This is one reason I don't particularly like the interpretation that Netero's Guanyin necessarily has to use every Nen category simply because it is a complex ability.

Netero being an Enhancer is not the interesting part.

The interesting part is what he chose to master.

His entire philosophy is built around repetition and refinement.

He performed the same punch thousands of times every day.

He didn't become terrifying because he learned a little bit of everything.

He became terrifying because he took one fundamental movement and pushed it to an absurd level.

That's why I find the idea of Netero as "the guy who mastered all five categories" somewhat contrary to the way Togashi presents his mastery.

It's possible that his ability uses multiple Nen categories. I'm not claiming otherwise.

I'm saying that the important question is what each category actually contributes, rather than assuming that every visible component of an ability corresponds to a separate Nen category.

The broader idea

So this isn't meant to replace the traditional Nen chart.

It's an additional layer of interpretation.

The traditional chart tells us:

"How efficiently can this person use each Nen category?"

Absolute Aura Bias asks:

"Which aspect of aura mastery comes most naturally to this Nen type?"

And individual Hatsu answers a third question:

"How does this particular person choose to express their intentions through Nen?"

So, in short:

Nen type → natural affinity.

Absolute Aura Bias → natural tendency toward a particular aspect of aura control.

Individual Hatsu → personal expression of intent.

Mastery → how far the user can push those underlying mechanics.

That's the framework I'm using when I look at Nen abilities. I'm not claiming it's explicitly stated as a canon system. It's an interpretation that I think explains a lot of the things we see in the series without turning every instance of aura control into a separate Nen category.

Can Transmuted aura be made visible?

https://preview.redd.it/a51j933ik5kh1.png?width=447&format=png&auto=webp&s=b84273243d8961895a912d0842db63e84404134f

I've had this arise in two of the Hatsus I created. The Glass Eyes, and Cloud Nine

The basic premise is this: If a Transmuter Nen user transmutes their aura into a substance that explicitly interacts with light, does that make it visible to non-Nen users?

Glass refracts and reflects light. So transmuting that property of glass would similarly make it do so. The non-user doesn't see the glass aura, but they do see the effect of the light being refracted. Some kind of nondescript sheen, glimmer or the like.

Clouds and fog block light. So transmuting that property of clouds/fog would similarly block light. The non-user doesn't see the cloud aura, but they do see some nondescript haze obscuring light.

If such interaction with light is intentionally and explicitly transmuted as part of the Hatsu, light wouldn't take two different paths - one as if there's no interaction, to remain invisible to non-users, and one as if there is to be seen by Nen users.

So I think it logically follows that any Transmutation Hatsu that explicitly interacts with light, would allow non-Nen users to see if not the aura itself, but its effect at the very least.

Earth's Fauna

Earth's Fauna is a ability that operates through Emission, Manipulation, and Enhancement, with the user's staff serving as the necessary medium for all techniques.

The user's first ability is Subterranean Hearing. They plant their staff into the ground, press their ear against it, and emit aura into the earth. This allows them to hear movements from miles away with remarkable clarity while distinguishing between individual sources. The technique also enables perception of activity within the ground itself, which is essential for locating worms to command.

Once worms are detected, the user can call them to the surface or command them to remain underground as preferred. The user never controls worms individually, they direct them in groups that may be split to achieve different tasks simultaneously. A protective aura cloak similar to Ten or Ken envelops the commanded worms, allowing them to survive environmental hazards they would not normally endure. This aura also enables the worms to grab solid matter and drill through earth with unnatural ease. The user applies Enhancement to boost the worms' physical capabilities, increasing their speed, strength, durability, and drilling power. The worms' own aura pools serve as batteries to help sustain the ability and reduce the user's aura expenditure over time.

As worms travel further from the user, they carry pieces of the user's aura, which extends the range of Subterranean Hearing proportionally. The user can command worms to soften or collapse ground and structural foundations, creating sinkholes, destabilizing buildings, or altering battlefield topography. Worm castings, which are their excrement, can be commanded to alter soil chemistry. The user directs worms to produce specific compounds that mimic human pheromones for luring, predator scents for deterrence, or chemical markers for tracking and territorial control.

Worms naturally produce gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide as digestive byproducts. The user's aura accelerates this production and commands worms to concentrate these gases in designated areas to create toxic or explosive traps. Finally, the user can command worms to cluster together and move in unison as a mass. The worms do not physically transform or merge, but this swarm aggregation allows for coordinated attacks or large scale environmental alteration.

Twelve Days of the Zodiac: Saccho Kobayakawa

Inspiration: I am going to blatantly ignore his status as a Problem Hunter, detective, and handiman, and even my instincts telling me that he is a Manipulator, because I want more Transmuters in the Zodiacs and I have an ability in mind that I really like lol

Name:

Nen Type: Transmutation

Effects: Saccho's ability allows him to shape his aura in the form of a horse and its individual body parts, and explosively so. He can use this ability to complement his swordsmanship, unexpectedly striking his opponent with hooves that blast out of his aura or shaping his aura into horse legs to deflect blows he cannot reach with his arms, or to quickly recuperate in the event of a fall.

The most advanced application of his ability encases his lower body into horse-shaped aura, functionally turning him into a centaur, enhancing his movement speed.

How powerful would blood conjured items be?

So I’ve been thinking about what my nen ability would be and what I’d sacrifice to make my ability stronger and blood seems like the best option.

The idea is that I use 1 pound of my own blood in conjunction with conjuration to transform it into a soul cutting blade. For every 3 seconds I lose half a pound of blood to maintain the blade.

Twelve Days of the Zodiac: Saccho Kobayakawa

This is the ability I planned for Saccho Kobayakawa, the Horse.

Inspiration: This is mainly due to his role as a bodyguard (both for Beyond and at the gates during the Association President elections, alongside Ginta) and his role as a Problem Hunter.

Ability Name: Active Resolve

Nen Type: Enhancement + Emission

Effects: This Hatsu allows the user to begin analyzing their target (whether an object, Nen beast, or person) by imbuing it with Nen. This analysis is subject to the time the target remains within Saccho's ability range (approximately 20 meters) and the complexity of what is being analyzed.

Once the analysis is complete, the user's mind, through Enhancement, is amplified and begins to work on a method or plan of action to counteract or eliminate the problem posed by the target.

If the user already understands how the target functions, their planning and mental Enhancement abilities activate immediately upon imbuing the target with Nen (or if they understand most but not all of its functions, they can simultaneously perform both analysis and planning, although doing so can overload their mind and make them less efficient in combat).

You can also apply this power to hypothetical scenarios or cases, although to do so you must activate your analytical power on yourself and gather as much information as possible about the scenario to be planned.

Regarding its limitations:

- The user can only use their power on one target at a time.

- If the target moves out of range (20m), their analysis will freeze, and the user will have 1 hour to bring it back into range. Otherwise, their analysis will be deactivated and restarted.

- To maximize their planning abilities, the user should be in a situation that doesn't require excessive concentration. If they are in a particularly challenging battle, the need to focus on avoiding enemies will slow down their planning.
