Anyone bothered by the cargo cover gaps on the IONIQ 9?

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this on the IONIQ 9 Business Plus.

The cargo cover has fairly large gaps on both the left and right sides. That means if I put a bag or other valuables in the trunk and close the cover, they can become visible through the side gaps if they slide around while driving. It doesn't seem to provide much privacy or security.

I also noticed there's a gap between the cargo cover and the back of the second-row seats when the third row is folded flat. The only way I've found to eliminate that gap is to recline the second-row seats much farther back than I'd normally want.

Is this how the cargo cover is designed for everyone, or could mine be installed incorrectly or be defective?

Has anyone found a good solution to improve cargo privacy? I came across a few third-party cargo covers on Amazon, but I don't know if they're any better. I'd appreciate any recommendations or experiences.

Bluelink PLUS vs PRO – is PRO actually worth it for OTA updates?

My free 6-month Bluelink PRO trial for the IONIQ 9 (Belgium) will end soon, and I'm trying to decide which subscription to keep.

The only feature I definitely want is remote climate control, so Bluelink PLUS already covers my main use case.

From what I've read:

  • LITE: Connected Routing, voice commands, OTA system updates.
  • PLUS: Everything in LITE + remote services (lock/unlock, climate control) + live traffic and weather.
  • PRO: Everything in PLUS + OTA updates for maps and infotainment + built-in music streaming.

What I'm not clear about is the value of PRO.

  • How often do the maps and infotainment actually get OTA updates?
  • Are these updates exclusive to PRO, or can they also be installed manually (e.g. via USB)?
  • If manual updates are possible, is there really any advantage to paying for PRO all year?

I'm wondering whether a strategy like this would make sense:

  • Stay on PLUS for 6–12 months.
  • Upgrade to PRO for one month whenever there's a major infotainment/map update.
  • Let the updates install, then switch back to PLUS.

Has anyone looked into this, or already followed a similar approach? Does it work in practice, or are there any catches I'm missing?

Any IONIQ 9 owners from Belgium? Is Hyundai Charging not available?

I have an IONIQ 9 in Belgium, and I'm a bit confused about the charging ecosystem.

In the Hyundai app, I only see Pay for Parking, but I don't see any option for Hyundai Charging (finding chargers, seeing prices, or starting/paying for charging sessions).

Is this expected in Belgium?

At the moment, it looks like I have to rely entirely on third-party apps/cards (Shell Recharge, Chargemap, Elli, Electra, etc.) to charge the car.

Can any Belgian owners confirm:

  • Is Hyundai Charging simply not available in Belgium?
  • Or am I missing some activation step or subscription?
  • If it isn't available, which charging app/card do you use most often?

I'd appreciate hearing how other Belgian IONIQ 9 owners have set things up.

Scheduled charging didn’t start

I’ve had the car for about a month now and schedule charging worked fine before. Went on a trip and we came back in the charging didn’t schedule for overnight. One thing I didn’t notice is that it wanted to charge right away and not wait for the schedule, so I stopped the charging would that interfere with the schedule charging?

i-PEDAL vs One Pedal driving?

I think I am getting confused between the definitions in the I9 Manual and the common parlance in the EV forums.

Is i-PEDAL on the Ioniq 9 the same thing as One Pedal on other EVs?

This is what i get for reading the manual I suppose, but Ioniq 9's one pedal uses the "shifter paddles" and I thought that one pedal was the same thing as what they are i-PEDAL.

Looks like our ioniq is in the shop for a long haul.

So we bought this car really just for summer trips and vacation (came from a smaller crv). Now that we are about to take our bigger family vacation the shop called and said they had our loaner available. I don't know what this thing is but it's small! I don't think we are getting out the door in under a month with the laundry list I gave them.

-6k service

-broken finger print reader

-bad mobile charger

-sunroof stuck (reset didn't work) heard this is bad if reset doesn't work.

-creaking noise from right side front suspension when turning the wheel.

-Issue with passenger detection system (when disabled it still pops up)

I'm guessing this thing will be 🍋.

Think I can time this right for a Black Ink and should I?

We want captains chairs otherwise I'd probably just buy a gravity or rivian.

Utility Mode

I use utility mode a lot since one of us usually remains in the car with our dog when we run errands.

I would love to see either a one button way to turn on utility mode- or maybe if it is in Park for a couple minutes it could just automatically enter Utility mode.

Is there a hack I am missing?

Working out the kinks of the ionic 9 2026

A service professional at the Hyundai dealership recently use the term "working out the kinks" of our ionic 9. But honestly it's pretty frustrating to have experienced:

-ICCU failure/replacement
-gaps and shrinkage in the tire foam which causes shaking on the highway
-failure of the electronic buttons moving the driver side rear second seat

Our vehicle was new and we've only had it for 10 months. It's the first time we bought a new vehicle. Is it typical for new vehicles?

Car won’t charge on 3 different types of chargers.

Tried charging my car on three separate chargers and it wouldn’t take. It kept giving me this message even though the car was in park and the ignition was off. Anyone else experience this?

Also been experiencing issues where the AC goes in and out if the car isn’t constantly moving. Like in stop and go traffic. The only way to fix it is turning the ac temperature up and then back down. Also noticing that this is preceded by a whirring sound under the hood almost every time.

Is this what I think it is….?

UPDATE:

I went to another Tesla supercharger, and it worked but it was only drawing 100 kWh when the charger was rated for 325.

What was interesting is that I used my CCS adapter (the same one that wasn’t working at electrify America) to connect my car to Tesla’s built-in NACS-to-CCS adapter, and that setup worked too. Because of that, I’m not convinced the CCS adapter itself was the primary issue at the other chargers where it wasn’t working.

Chargers where it did not work:

  1. Electrify America 350kwh using CCS-NACS adapter
  2. EV-GO using using CCS-NACS adapter
  3. Empure home charger NACS. This worked for 5 minutes then stopped.

Chargers where it worked:

  1. Tesla supercharger CCS-NACS from Hyundai and CCS-NACS from Tesla.

Regarding the A/C. Some days it works perfectly, and other days it cuts in and out.

A few people have asked me to describe the noise I’m hearing. The closest comparison I can think of is the Airbus PTU sound, but it’s different. Mine does one long, low drone followed by 2–3 shorter drones. The pitch is also noticeably deeper than the typical PTU sound. After that, the AC goes dead and all I get is ambient air.

Sunroof not closing?

The shade closes. The sunroof closes about halfway, then stops. There’s no way to get it to fully close. The only way to keep the shade fully closed as if once it’s closed to hold the button. Otherwise, I’m screwed if it rains. Is there anything I can do or does this have to go into the dealership?

Supercharger from Bluelink app

We are doing our travel today and have had trouble with super chargers not working. The first one worked and we could start it through the blue link app. The second one when we got there would not let us start it from the blue Link app and we eventually gave up, but it was really stressful because we are nearly out of charge.

This is way more complicated than we expected coming from a Tesla. Has anyone solved this?

IONIQ 9: Review after 5,000 miles

Preamble

5,000 miles on the IONIQ 9 — enough to understand whether expectations match reality. Overall, they do. I have something to compare with: 6 years on Tesla, the entire lineup from Model X, S, and Y. So my opinion is well-founded.

Appearance

Controversial, but easy to get used to. And it even starts to grow on you. Still a rare specimen on the roads, but lately it's becoming more common. Every time you spot another IONIQ 9, it's an event.

Dynamics and Handling

More than enough. Haven't tried the Sport mode yet, but in regular mode the car drives like a good sports car. You constantly have to remind yourself that the weight and inertia of the machine can significantly increase the braking distance.

The IONIQ 9 is definitely a highway car. That's its element. On the motorway, everything is there: comfort, silence, and power. Plenty of everything.

Fuel Consumption and Efficiency

Tricky business. The most efficient temperature is +24°C. The car comfortably gets 300 W/mile even at speeds of 70–80 mph. In normal temperature, around the city, consumption stays in the range of 230–250 W/mile.

With a 100+ kWh battery, this gives a range of 250–320 miles on a single charge. For a car with a dry weight under 3.5 tons — quite acceptable.

Comfort and Sound

The cabin is very quiet. With music on, it becomes a concert hall inside.

The number of options and assistance systems is enormous: massages, sunroof with blind, everything you need. Basically, a small house on wheels.

Minor Annoying Things

Plastic everywhere

The Koreans cut corners on the little things. Lots of bare and thin plastic inside. Because of this, enjoying the quiet is somewhat problematic. Any little thing in the tray, in the doors, in the center console, or cup holders easily turns into an annoying noise. I even had to buy felt to line the trays. There are plenty of them all over the car.

Assistance systems are too sensitive

When maneuvering in parking lots, exits, or narrow roads, the distance sensor may decide that it's not enough and simply stop the car, hitting the brakes for you. On the one hand, with the large dimensions, this should help avoid scratches, but often there's more than enough space.

The same applies to the eye-tracking system. Any diversion of the eyes longer than two seconds — the system starts demanding you not get distracted from the road. There are even paradoxical situations: when turning the wheel, the side spoke blocks the eye-tracking camera, the car panics, even though you have no intention of getting distracted.

ADAS lags behind Tesla

Even Tesla's basic cruise works better. On the highway, there's not much confidence. Sometimes it loses the plot and starts weaving across the lane, looking like a drunk driver. The system can be significantly improved with an additional device, but it's expensive and not critical for now.

High wheel flare height — a real plus

Where I used to guarantee scraping the wheel rim on Tesla, here I just roll through and slip by. Rims without a single scratch. Tesla owners will understand.

Serious Problems

Software — a sore subject

Despite no complaints about the hardware (Koreans really know how to build cars), there are many questions about the software.

Android Auto glitches constantly

The most unpleasant thing is that Android Auto occasionally crashes. This is a Hyundai glitch that they've been fighting in every firmware update and still can't fix. Sometimes everything works smoothly for weeks. And sometimes it gets stuck in an endless loop of connection and disconnection. I'm inclined to think it's weather-related.

Phone overheating on the charger

A huge problem. Android Auto requires serious performance from your phone, which causes it to heat up. Additional heat from the wireless charger really warms it up. After that, a message appears on the screen about phone performance issues.

The only thing that helps is moving the phone to the air vent. Looks awkward, haven't found a better alternative for a phone holder yet.

Door Locking — an anti-feature

Hyundai continues to lock you inside the car. If you lock the car from the app or keyfob, you cannot get out — not at all. The door opening buttons inside stop working. The door handles from inside and even from outside don't work either.

I don't know why Hyundai does this, but the same thing happened on all previous generations of IONIQ. I even filed a complaint with them, but never got a response.

Door closing is a whole separate story, which I've already written about in earlier posts.

Matte Paint

The matte finish makes me happy. I'm not particularly careful with paintwork — scratches appear with enviable regularity. But matte paint forgives me for this.

Summary

Nothing has broken, and that's a relief. In a week, I'm heading on vacation with a couple thousand additional miles. Let's see how it all goes.

The IONIQ 9 is a good car. The hardware is solid. The software needs work, but that's a matter of time. Serious issues like door locking — that's more a question of corporate philosophy than engineering. But overall? I recommend it. Especially if you're not fussy about every scratch and are willing to let the car teach you to drive better.

Creaking Noise

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if you found a solution. My year old Ioniq 9 frequently has a fairly loud (easily noticeable from the driver's seat) creaking noise when I accelerate or brake. It seems to be coming from the behind the rear seats on the passenger side. It does not happen over bumps, only while quickly accelerating or decelerating. I searched everywhere and can not find the source. I did see there is a recall for a suspension issue that may cause noise, but mine doesn't appear to be included in the recall.

About to buy one

Hey.

I am considering buying one ioniq 9 (Korea build) and wanted to know the input of this community.

is it as good as it seems to be? What worries me more is the ICCU. Is it still a problem? I thought the part was revised and the software tunned to stop this issue, but is it really?

Maybe you have other considerations or knowledge you would like to share.

Thank you.

Scenic Charging on Western U.S. Roadtrip

The most scenic EV Charging location from our Western U.S. Roadtrip - Lions Park in Moab, Utah, just south of Arches National Park. Electrify America chargers owned by the city were just .40 per kwh. Interestingly, we found that charging in Utah and Idaho was relatively inexpensive because the power companies have significant rebate programs available for Level 3 chargers - in Utah it is up to $63k per location (which covers up to 75% of the installation costs).
