So, I know I would be initially bombarded with comments saying there are plenty of comics, games and movies and even a TV show. That's not the point I'm getting at.
The whole retro-future aesthetic and themes are amazing. I would honestly play a game like Satisfactory or Factorio set in the Alien Franchise where we don't even encounter aliens or maybe we do and we have to build defenses.
I'm currently reading River of Pain and I'm genuinely enjoying the world before the introduction of the aliens.
Out of the shadows, Sea of Sorrows and River of Pains world building is really good. After recently replaying Alien Isolation, I would love to play other games which incorporates the 80s style theme.
The Weyland-Yutani corporation being the big bad is extremely relatable if you work for a Franchise of some kind.
My imagination is limited but I'd love to hear any alternatives people might suggest?
Long story short - love the franchise and the universe of Alien, wish there were more content set in the universe that isn't exclusively about the Alien.
Thank you!
I just reinstalled MKX, and I've had a great deal of fun playing as this guy! Cool idea, I like how they implemented the character in the Mortal Kombat universe. Creative, and fun. Kind of OP, and broken, but the varieties are awesome!
Always found it interesting to see the Xeno underwater in Alien: Resurrection.
So awesome.
Why is it the alien queen keeps hesitating to kill Ellen instead of stabbing her instantly with the tail
I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts(shout out to the PO crew.) They suggested a theory that I had never thought of before. That Lt. Gorman was chosen by the company to lead the crew down to Hadley’s hope because of his incompetence and inexperience.
Because Burke and the company suspected there were xenomorphs down on LV426 and they set up the crew to fail so it wouldn’t interfere with the infestation on Hadley’s hope. Perhaps some may even come back impregnated.
While I don’t agree with this, I think it’s a super interesting take.
In my opinion I always felt that having an inexperienced leader making decisions that could kill people was a great metaphor for how government/military work during times of war. If memory serves me right James Cameron wanted to do a “Vietnam in space.” So it makes sense to me that the people in charge are so removed from the action that they assign whoever to fill the position so it looks better for the bottom dollar. Having a team or “just a grunt” die is no big deal when you can replace them with another. And another.
Anyhoo, what are your thoughts?
Just got a hold of a queen and a couple of runner variants. Might get more runners for army building!
This is one of the most baffling things to me when watching the movie, I've seen reactions on YouTube and they're always like "why is ripley doing this she should just get out and let the explosion take care of it" and im like???????
When one of the eggs opened now she's gonna have a facehugger following her and newt as they escape which is not good as we saw earlier in the movie, and am I the only one who thinks Xenomom wouldve never let ripley and newt get away anyway??? The entire existence of this species and their propagation depends on a host, the truce was temporary and xenomom was tricking her, cause the moment she leaves the egg pit to escape there's no saying that the remaining xenos won't attack her. They have 2 viable hosts right there, she has no reason to let them leave, especially considering they're not gonna get hosts that often. You do NOT turn your back to an enemy, let alone an apex predator which needs and desperately wants to use you as a host.
So ripley realises seeing the egg open and thinks "bitchhhhh" and burns the eggs, kills any incoming xenos and grenades the sacks that mom is attached to to put her in enough pain, creates a barrier of fire so they can make a relatively uneventful escape. Doesnt work ofc xenomom is pissed enough that she literally mutilates herself just to kill ripley which is a GREAT decision because it shows just how complex these creatures are.
People are always like, this was an emotional decision and im like nooooooooo, its more stupid for ripley to leave while trusting that a species which needs to kill and use others as hosts in order to propogate is just gonna let them go. If the xenos and that face hugger pursue them as theyre leaving theres a huge chance of acid splattering all over them if she tries to kill them, and they dont have any armour to protect themselves either. She made the best decision imo, she just didnt take into account how rageful xenomom would be that she would be willing to tear that sack off just to get revenge.
Her decision also makes sense regarding her trauma, she wouldn't wanna know any xenos were alive as they were escaping, considering the last movie. She just didnt expect xenomom to tear herself off the sack and free herself and pursue her.
EDIT: i need people here to know the ovipostor is an integral part of the Queen's lower body, not some background furniture. Ripley launching grenades at the sac IS HER LAUNCHING GRENADES AT THE QUEEN, AT THE MOST SENSITIVE AND VULNERABLE ORGAN OF THE QUEEN. its very much inspired by insect ovipostors, which if torn or damaged can kill the insect. Xenomom tearing, and like I've written, MUTILATING HERSELF AND BEING OK, is a good way to not only show how incredibly strong xenomom is but also how full of rage she is. Just because the sac usually detaches after sometime(I'm assuming if it's inspired by insects) doesn't mean it wasnt a part of her then, or that ripping it off or any damage to the sac happening prematurely won't cause her pain(it's like saying ripping your milk teeth before they naturally detach won't hurt), infact if it was easily detachable, as though she just had a "sac eject" button, that would make the queen less scary, its the fact that she was ready to mutilate herself in that moment just to get ripley which makes her sooooo terrifying.
Aliens (1986) was Carrie Henn's only film. Instead of pursuing an acting career, she followed her true passion and became an elementary school teacher in California.
Aliens has been my favorite movie of all time, and Newt has always been my favorite character. I was around her age when I first saw the film in the 90s, so I really saw myself in her character.
Since I've never had a teacher who starred in my favorite movie, so it must be surreal to be one of Carrie Henn's students. Imagine discovering that your elementary school teacher played Newt in Aliens, and that she's your favorite character. Then you go to school every day and she's there as your teacher. That would be such a unique and surreal experience.
