Hey all! I'm working on my first practice digitalization piece using ink/stitch, and I've just run into some issues with jump stitches. I'd really appreciate some help.
I managed to sort out most of the issues I had before by reorganizing layers and breaking some down into further paths I can reorder, but the final black outline is giving me some grief. I started with a bitmap from an image, then edited the nodes to be tidier.
It just seems that it's doing many large and unnecessary jump stitches in the second half of the black section. I'm very much still learning, and have done my best to research, but none of the methods I've found and understood worked on the black when they did for the white / red.
When I tried to "break down" the main lineart path with CTRL + Shift + K in an attempt to reorder elements, it seemed to just break it. I'll attach images below of what happened to it.
I'd really appreciate any advice on how to fix this, ideally without taking too many shortcuts, as I'd love to build up the fundamental knowledge, painful as it may be. Thanks so much!
(p.s. I'm going to bed since I'm nodding off, and haven't looked at it properly, but if anyone can tell me why only the base layers of stitching are showing up on params, that would be lovely too lol.)
Edit: I've fixed the "Needle" layer to be under the skirt to hide that jump stitch.
Im new to embroidery and i wanna make my own patches. I find a lot of the pre made ones a little bland for my taste or basic so I want to make my own. I have tried some software but it very confusing for me since im so new. Is there an image to file converter or a website or program that is beginner friendly? Preferably cheap or free i dont have a alot of money rn. Also any free or cool files to buy
I wanted to practice embroidery so I made this 8ball on a jacket I got from good will I've gotta stop using tear away it ruins some of my projects
My designs keep coming out like this. I’m using Artspira. Is it a digitizing problem or a settings/machine issue?
Do you guys have any critiques or pointers on my marketing photography?
I’m going for an elevated embroidery type of vibe, I’m also focusing on the one-off customized embroidery clientele.
A friend asked if I could embroider the neck piece thing for his Elden Ring cosplay outfit. I was up for the challenge and said sure why not! Getting the size right was a little tough and it ended up being a little too small in the final product. Once it was attached to the helmet, the fabric doesn't hang down as much for you to see the design fully.
Finding a good image to digitize off of was hard, so I ended up just using a screenshot of someone else's cosplay where they had screen printed the design on some fabric (last pic)
About 180k stitches and I used my 15" x 23" border frame so I was able to do it all in one hooping. Digitized in Hatch 2. If I really wanted it to be true to size I probably could have split the design up to 2 hoopings, but I was lazy and didn't have enough time to tinker with the design.
I would like to get into doing more cosplay projects like this cause they are fun!
How can I draw a leaf like this? Could someone please give me a step-by-step guide?
I’m new to sewing and embroidery and could really use some advice from people with more experience.
I recently lost my job and I’m trying to build something for myself, ideally a small children’s clothing business. My idea is to start by embroidering my own custom designs onto second-hand children’s clothing while I learn garment construction and sewing properly over time. I love the idea of creating unique, sustainable pieces instead of buying everything brand new.
At the moment I’m stuck on the big beginner question:
Should I get a combined sewing & embroidery machine, or separate machines?
My budget is pretty limited because I’m starting from scratch and I’m also trying to be realistic in case the business doesn’t work out the way I hope. I don’t want to overspend too early, but I also don’t want to buy something that I’ll outgrow immediately.
Machines I’ve been looking at so far:
Singer SE9185
Janome Memory Craft 100E
Brother Skitch PP1
What I’m mainly hoping to do at first:
Embroider custom artwork/designs onto kids clothes
Use second-hand/thrifted clothing as the base
Learn digitising/design creation over time
Eventually learn to sew and create my own garments
Things I’m worried about:
Buying too cheaply and regretting it
Buying too expensively and wasting money if the business fails
Whether combo machines are frustrating compared to dedicated embroidery machines
Ease of use for a total beginner
Reliability and maintenance costs
If anyone has experience with these machines (or starting a small embroidery business on a budget), I’d genuinely appreciate any advice, warnings, or recommendations.
Would you:
Start with a combo machine?
Buy a separate embroidery machine & cheap sewing machine later?
Buy second-hand instead of new?
Have you done any custom embroidery using any app-based machines?
Thanks in advance!
This is my first time trying embroidery! Thought it went well, at least for an experiment. I have no idea how to sew, so be sweet to me!🌜⭐️
Happy to talk technique if anyone has questions, thread choice, density, push-pull compensation, underlay, backing. Whatever.
I just got a second hand White embroidery machine. My hope is to use it to label my sons' swimsuits with an initial so I can tell which is which. (They have identical lycra jammer-style swim shorts for swim team, in the same size.)
I figured out how to make letters on the machine, so I think it is possible. But I am worried about getting shorts under the machine in the hoop properly. Also not sure what kind of stabilizer I should use for this material. I would appreciate any advice you can give!
My family got together and bought me a Bernina 700e for my birthday. So I'm reading the manual amd it says to turn off the machine and disconnect from power source just to thread the machine.
Is that really necessary?
Thanks so much!
I was nervous had one issue but then went smooth!
It can be done!
As the title states, my first machine! I kept reading that no one wants the 4x4 for long, the single needle, or the stationary arm. It quickly jumped up in price where I was starting in the 8k range.
Then a trusted friend told me her first machine was the babylock array. I know babylock is a trusted brand, so that’s a huge plus. The resale would be better if I have a change of heart. The wireless functionality is nice too.
Is it worth the price jump, (8k to about 12k) for a brand name? Are there other standout features that the babylock offers that I haven’t thought of?
digitized an embroidery file to give away as a freebie for an email promo i did for work. making files and watching them come to fruition is so satisfying. 😌
