3 expensive hobbies to keep the mind sane

Been into photography and headphone hobbies for some years and now I'm may add the mechanical keyboards to the expensive hobby list lol

My first mechanical keyboard in a while (Epomaker Galaxy100 Lite). IEMs are LZ AX and Moondrop Meteor if anyone is interested.

Last time I actually looked into keyboards, budget options (at least the ones I saw) were.... not great sounding to say the least. But now I'm surprised they sound pretty good out of the box so I'm curious to see what kind of mods people suggest for them. For now I'll probably search for some switches to try out.

7V x Taro

My beloved. I was afraid taro would not look good on a navy board.. but boy was I wrong. I have been building keyboards when funds allow since covid times. Watching Alexotos and Taeha streams while in lockdown isolation. 6 years have passed and I was finally able to get my "endgame" board (I have a new endgame board in mind now lol). All jokes aside. I was never able to afford the 7V or resale GMK Taro. On a whim after cleaning my desk I decided to scroll mechmarket subreddit and see what 7Vs were going for and to my surprise they finally dropped to a reasonable price. I jumped on the opportunity and now I have both things I thought I'd never ever get. I guess the moral of the story is "never say never". I dont know if its a good thing but getting this board and sourcing all the parts brought me back into the hobby I feel excited to see what new designs come out and chill in keyboard streams again. Anyways hope yall have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing what you guys build! :]

Trying to find a VERY sharp/crispy Cherry MX Blue sound

I'm looking for a nice, clicky mechanical keyboard. I’m trying to figure out what exactly causes this specific type of Cherry MX Blue sound.

I found these two sound tests:

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8nmVF0IDCs (I like this one a lot - looking for keyboards that sound like this one; the video is 6 yrs old so the keyboard linked in the description is unavailable)
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a4IfFO9KIs

so, they’re BOTH Cherry MX Blues, but the first one sounds WAY better imo.

Idk how to describe it, but the first one has a super sharp, plasticky, high-pitched, ultra-distinct click. every keypress sounds individually separated and extremely “CLICKY" - very bright and crispy.

The second one still sounds clicky, but it’s more blended together and smoother. the clicks don’t feel as sharp or separated, which ig is okay, but I would much rather prefer a keyboard of the first video.

im also trying to figure out what actually causes the difference. is it the case material or thinner keycaps? or maybe the hollow case resonance?

if anyone knows what keyboards/builds/switches produce that first sound consistently, i would really appreciate recommendations.

Preferably:

  • budget: under $200
  • wireless if possible
  • black/clean aesthetic maybe with rgb (like some of the Razer/logitech mechanical keyboard aesthetics) - black specifically
  • size: preferably TKL (although full length or 60% would also work i guess)
  • okay with MX Blues OR other clicky switches if they match that sharper/crisper sound better

Also: would Kailh BOX Jades/Whites/Navy get me closer to that sound than MX Blues? thank you!

Got a mechanical keyboard recently. It’s been good so far

I wanted something better than a basic keyboard but didn’t want to spend too much, so I ended up getting the Aula F75.

So far it’s been good. Feels solid, sounds nice, and typing on it is way better than on the random keyboard I was using before. I use it for work, browsing, and a bit of gaming, and it’s been doing the job.

Main thing is it doesn’t feel cheap. That was the part I wasn’t sure about before buying it, but once it was on my desk that worry was gone pretty fast.

Nothing life-changing, just a good keyboard for the money.

If anyone else has one, curious how it’s been holding up.

Varmilo minilo98

I changed the keycaps for a kind of vintage thematic. Love it ❤️
