i’m so sick of my generation

i’m gen z in case you couldn’t tell by my lack of capitalization and punctuation. that’s not what i have a problem with, it’s the fact that they don’t know how to socialize. i was in 8th grade during covid but even i know basic etiquette and social practices. now in days everyone is embarrassed by everyone and it’s fucking annoying. like you are legally allowed to go up to strangers at the bar and talk to then. i hate that everyone is so embarrassed, and i don’t know if i should be. i wasn’t raised to feel embarrassed and now that makes me “neurodivergent” im not even joking. some “friends” i had asked me if i had asburgers because i like starting conversations with random people. like what? i like meeting new people and talking to them, everyone individual on this earth has a story that i want to listen to and because of that im labeled as “weird.” what happened to manners and interests and respect? i wish i was born in a generation where phones were background characters and no the forefront of every issue. i wish i could make friends organically and not be given looks for talking outside my social status. i yearn for a time where i could talk to someone and have them respond normally and not give me a looks that reads “what the fuck are you doing?”

As an 08 guy today my early 2017 born sister who’s soon to be 10 years old has made fun of me for being gen z and was shocked gen z started in 1997? Like bro she makes me feel outdated?😭 and she thinks those born in 97’ are old enough to be my dad? By the way she says gen alpha began in 2013

Fellow MiddleGenZers and other people born in the 2000s how many of these 18 things can you relate to of a 2000s childhood of a Millennial/Older Gen-Z?

  1. You weren't checking your phone every five minutes
  2. You actually asked out people in person
  3. Mobile Phones were actually very simple
  4. Burning CDs for friends actually meant something
  5. Your whole world was basically the street
  6. Friends actually knocked on your front door
  7. You had to call their house phone
  8. Kids could spend the whole day outside
  9. Life just seemed to move a bit slower
  10. Technology felt exciting, not all consuming
  11. Everyone watched the same shows and talked about them
  12. Music somehow felt so much bigger
  13. Saturday mornings were always meant for cartoons
  14. The world felt somehow safer
  15. After school meant logging into MSN
  16. Social media hadn't taken over everything
  17. Weekends meant blockbusters and new DVDs

I’ll make a claim and say that 2017 is the single best year of this century ever since 2000 you heard it i said 2017 in terms of happiness and experience.

2017 was honestly the most underrated time to be alive. Spring and summer were peak pop culture—fidget spinners took over the world, and the weather actually felt great compared to the blistering heat of 2016. On top of that, the movie lineup was incredible with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. By fall, Fortnite dropped and instantly changed gaming culture forever, and we capped the whole year off with a new Star Wars film in December. Everyone hyped up 2016, but to me, it still felt stuck in the early 2010s. By 2017, tech and camera quality finally felt modern in case people wanted photo shoots.

Fun Fact: 2017 was the safest year in aviation history.

2018 was basically Fortnite. And 2019 was basically tiktok’s rise and trends also avengers endgame was great for its spring release 2017 just had everything perfect.

Since the Class of 2026 recently graduated (the majority born in 2008) and are heading off to college, does anyone from an older cohort have memories of them? What message would you send them as the second-to-last 2000s-born class to graduate, just as the '09s enter their senior year?

Am an 08 i had my graduation in 2025 just looking out for my peers making sure they get love and appreciation.

How to stop feeling insecure/love myself?

I’m a 20F Black woman with albinism and I really struggle with insecurity because of it. I don’t necessarily hate my Albinism but I can’t say that I love it either. Although there are many times throughout my week where I am constantly reminded that I am different from other black people and I feel like I would be prettier or feel more attractive if I had melanin. And when i come on reddit and look through subreddit, I see gorgeous melanted Black women which makes me feel even more insecure.

I'll never get this idea that coworkers shouldn't become friends.

I been seeing alot of posts on TikTok of so many people who say they don't want to be friends or don't even want get to know their coworkers or that you should not become friends with your coworkers and it's just like... why? I mean for one you see them on a consistent basis so eventually y'all will talk at some point, and two once you're out of school your only option for making social connections is through your job, I mean where the fuck else are you supposed to make friends? like you telling people that they can't make connections at work then what are they supposed to do? and three making friends at work generally makes the environment feel less boring and shitty, when you have others to talk to and joke around with the day will go by much faster, when I first started working at the grocery store it felt so long and boring until I made some friends and now I actually look forward to going.
