Fellow MiddleGenZers and other people born in the 2000s how many of these 18 things can you relate to of a 2000s childhood of a Millennial/Older Gen-Z?

  1. You weren't checking your phone every five minutes
  2. You actually asked out people in person
  3. Mobile Phones were actually very simple
  4. Burning CDs for friends actually meant something
  5. Your whole world was basically the street
  6. Friends actually knocked on your front door
  7. You had to call their house phone
  8. Kids could spend the whole day outside
  9. Life just seemed to move a bit slower
  10. Technology felt exciting, not all consuming
  11. Everyone watched the same shows and talked about them
  12. Music somehow felt so much bigger
  13. Saturday mornings were always meant for cartoons
  14. The world felt somehow safer
  15. After school meant logging into MSN
  16. Social media hadn't taken over everything
  17. Weekends meant blockbusters and new DVDs
  18. Nobody was trying to become viral

People born between 2002-2007 could you share some childhood overlaps/similarities that you had with an early 2000s baby (2000-2001) and late 2000s baby (2008-2009) childhood overall which you shared in common?

I think most 2000s borns can relate to each other to some extent albeit early 2000s borns vs late 2000s borns childhood was quite different despite being only 6-9 years older but still.

I'm a theoretical physicist, and feel algorithms are out of place and data doesn't exist

I have a PhD in theoretical physics and never got on with experimental physics. I've spent several years in software engineering.

This is going to sound weird, but intuitively I don't believe in data, and algorithms seem out of place, like how you get to the answer is irrelevant. Practically speaking, I find algorithms easy to learn and use, and see how they make things faster. But I still don't intuitively understand why they're involved. It's like computation itself makes no sense to me.

I strongly feel there is a good reason to feel this way, one founded in mathematics, logic or even philosophy, but I don't know what it would be. It does remind me of how quantum computers don't compute things in the "this then that" fashion that digital computers do, that they - and correct my hand-wavy understanding if I'm wrong - just "coalesce" on the answer.

Does anyone recognise this?

Me (194cm) next to my sister (171cm)

The centimeter to ft conversion for these heights would approximately be:

194cm = 6'4.4 and 171cm = 5'7.3

Are there any 190cm+ (6’3+) guys and 180+ (5’11+) girls who are more torso than legs proportion wise?

Asking as a 195cm 18 yo guy whose height is decently more torso than legs proportion wise.

What is/did college teaching/teach you that has/had to do nothing with your degree?

Assuming that most of us here are aged 18-25 I bet most of us are either in college or already finished it. Some being as young as 1st year to some already have graduated a while ago (Bachelors degree). Hence I wanted to ask what is something that your college is/did teaching/teach you that has/had nothing to do with your degree? Please answer this whether you are a 1st year or graduate. As someone starting college this coming month I'm interested to see what lies in the first hand respondents archives!
