Trouble playing split screen with my son

I recently got Minecraft for the switch (we play on Switch 2) and my son wants to play split-screen with me.

We succeeded once. However, after linking my microsoft account I no longer seem able to play.

I have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription active on my account only. It is not active for my son's profile.

The game tells us to play local we need to "disable multiplayer" in the settings; however, when I go to the settings tab I can't even navigate to multiplayer for some reason.

Any ideas? I tried logging out of the Microsoft account but it. did not have an effect. I even tried with the Mario skins which should disable online multiplayer outright, but got the same message. (The only time we cooped was in the Mario mashup)

Local LAN play disabled now?

Been trying to get my kids Nintendo Switch 1's to connect locally. The switches seem stuck between switch online errors and xbox gamepass errors. The array and layers of settings that all need to chime for this game to work are insane - so many points of failure! I've tried wiping all data and settings, and it still won't recognise that the nintendo switch friend is there locally on the same network. Tried hotspotting to my phone, so same issue (not a router or ISP issue). Up until a few months ago, this worked fine (they've not played for a while). I've also checked all switch and xbox permissions. All is as they should be, but still not working.

It's appearing to me as if Nintendo/Xbox have now blocked local offline play for anyone without a paid subscription. Anyone else had this issue? And if so, is there a workaround?

Is there no toggle sprint option?

My 8 year old has been playing Minecraft for a few months now and is have trouble with parkour maps, and really anything that requires multiple sprinting jumps.

Is there really no toggle sprint option in the switch bedrock version? Seems wild to me that this is not a feature.
