Garda bikesafe

Hey lads what's the deal with the bike safe courses?

Went onto their website and got immediately redirected to a UK website with all welsh courses etc. very confusing.

How do you book a course for here? (Cork, if it is relevant).

Cracks in the tyre

I know the tyre is finished anyway, but I'm curious about the cause of those cracks. Tyre is just over two years old, fitted March last year. Bridgestone Battlax S22

Booked my theory test!

Well i(25F) did it, i took the first step to getting the license. Theory is booked for the 20th of June, excited and terrified at the same time (mostly cause i hate testes).

Anyway, since Ive booked i keep thinking one of two ways, firstly ill hate it and secondly that its the best decision Ive made. How did you guys feel when you took that first step? what was going through your head?

Tailgating sucks

Coming out of a 60kmph zone up a bit of a hill and the bike isn't quick. I commute on a little 125 and this is usually the part of the road where I encounter these dickheads. It's why my wife doesn't want me to ride. Not sure if I actually got to give him the finger or if he passed too quick before it.

Edit: for everybody saying I should've let him pass, sure if on a long straight and not turning off. Moving into the hard shoulder, on a bend+hill on a national speed limit road and then moving back out when I'm turning off in 1 km has too many variables. I'm literally in his way for less than a minute and on this road everyday but his driving stood out.

Edit 2: not sure do car drivers know the stopping distances but at 85kmph his reaction time of 1.5s is 35m. He was less than 20m away from me or 4 yellow hard shoulder strips. 2s rule says he should be nearly 2.5 times that in the dry. It was wet so 4s rule should apply.

IBT Lessons - Dublin - Mid Week

I’ve just passed my theory and would like to get started on my IBT lessons for class A. I can see that this question has been asked a few times before, but I’d like just to get an updated consensus from anyone who has done it recently.

I have found myself in between jobs so I don’t need to just do the lessons on the weekend. I’d actually prefer to get it done between Monday to Friday. Any strong recommendations in the Dublin area? Or just south of Dublin. I see airport driving school has popped up numerous times. Is that still a strong one?

Appreciate it.

Old post about a lad adding 5000km to his bike for import?

Hello all, I remember a post about a year ago in which a guy was looking to import a new-ish bike from the north, but it only had a few hundred KM on it. He wanted to get around the customs or VAT, and was planning on putting crazy miles on it before the VRT appointment.

I’m in the same situation myself as I have a new bike and want to import it, problem is it’s brand new and the drive to import it is only 1000km, and want to see how it went but I can’t find the damn post. Anyone remember what I’m yapping about?

I’m thinking about throwing it up on a center stand and just letting it spin for a bit. Would that even work?

Thanks in advance.

Stolen: Ténéré 700 World Rally 2026

My mates Ténéré 700 World Rally 2026 was robbed just weeks after he bought it. He is based in Dublin 12. It's pretty distinct, has golden wheels a rear rack, folding mirrors, barkbuster hand guards.

If anyone has seen it, please contact Crumlin Garda station, and if possible, let me know so I can tell him.

Cable barrier campaign in UK

Lots of these in Ireland...

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2026/may/iam-roadsmart-create-petition-for-dangerous-barrier-removal/

'IAM RoadSmart cited research showing that 76% of motorcycle-to-barrier impacts between 2014 and 2018 resulted in riders being killed or seriously injured (KSI), compared with 16% for non-motorcycle barrier impacts. Motorcycles are also 33 times more likely to be involved in a fatal single-vehicle barrier collision than cars.'

Textile or leather? Whats your preference?

So I'm in the market for a new jacket. Iv had an rst textile one for years, honestly it's brilliant, removable thermal lining, all the armour included. It was even waterproof for the first few years. The only downside is I sweat like a gypsy with a mortgage in the summer!

Which one do you wear? How do you find it in regards to the Irish weather? Would leather be better with wind resistance and waterproof or does it seap in at the seams?

What sites do you find are good? No customs to Ireland and that? Cheap(er) delivery?.. I prefer the bomber/shortie style jackets if it makes any difference.

Help finding bolt for suppressor baffles

I am trying to find similar bolt and washer for the baffles of my Dominator exhaust. I tried halfords, screwfix, BnQ, and a few neighbourhood hardware shops, but no luck.

Anyone knows where i may be able to find them in Cork or Dublin? Thanks in advance.

Buying and selling motorcycle for 1 month trip around Ireland

Hey there! I'm holly, a mid 30s Canadian who is coming to your gorgeous country next month to ride around all of Ireland and some of Scotland. I have 30 days.

I've got all the hotels and itinerary basically booked, but one thing I haven't yet sorted is the motorcycle!

I want to buy a used motorcycle on my first day there, but wanted to know how easy it would be to sell it before I leave. Do dealerships buy motorcycles? I'm fine losing money, because renting a motorcycle would set me back over 3k, so losing 1k on buying and then selling a bike wouldn't be an issue.

Does anyone know, can a Canadian buy a motorcycle and get insurance easily enough? And do dealerships buy motorcycles?

I have found a couple of decent motorbikes with panniers and top boxes etc that would be perfect, but yeah I guess I wonder, am I being dumb trying to buy and then sell one month later?

Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if my questions are dumb.

I'm so, so looking forward to riding around Ireland! I want go pat baby goats and lambs and drink delicious Murphys and Guinness (my dog is named Murphy, partially after the beer cause it's one of my favorites, and hes black), and doing unique and cool shit on some of the days I won't be riding too far.

Storage in Dublin Area July-Sept

Hi, my mate is going to be riding around Ireland at the end of June and is looking for bike storage at the end of his trip (July 9 thru September).

Does anyone have any recommendations for bike storage companies or places in and around the Dublin area?
Ideally something that is made for bikers, secure etc.

Tent camping near Skerries

Does anyone know if there's somewhere near Skerries that allows tent camping? I'm looking for a place for the Skerries road racing in July, the few places I found are caravan/mobile home only.

Greatly appreciate any recommendations!
