https://give.ndsufoundation.com/701-day

If you haven't heard of 701 day yet, please stop by and drop a donation.

NDSU has raised over $10m so far.

For those of you not familiar with North Dakota, the entire state has the same area code of 701. 701 is also the date code for July first, and is also the first day NDSU is officially FBS.

MW Realignment

**Commissioner Mode: Rebuilding the Mountain West (CFB 27 Dynasty)**
I’m starting a long-term **Commissioner Mode** series in **CFB 27** where I control every team in the Mountain West. The goal is to build the conference into the strongest and most sustainable Group of Five conference possible while staying as realistic as I can.
This is **not** just a Dynasty Mode rebuild. I’m pretending I’m the actual commissioner of the Mountain West with millions to work with, making decisions that improve the conference financially, competitively, and geographically.
I’ll post the full lore later because it depends on several conferences making moves first, but I wanted to share the expansion plan.
Also, I challenge you guys to challenge my logistics. Tell me what you would change and where you think my reasoning falls apart.
**Current Mountain West**
Air Force
Hawaii
New Mexico
Nevada
North Dakota State
Northern Illinois
San Jose State
UNLV
UTEP
Wyoming

**The Timeline**
Everything starts when the ACC’s media deal expires.
In my timeline, the ACC gets heavily poached by the SEC, Big Ten, and possibly the Big 12. Unlike the Pac-12, I don’t think the ACC completely dies—I think it rebuilds.
My prediction looks something like this:
**SEC**
Clemson
Florida State
Miami
Georgia Tech
**Big Ten**
North Carolina
Duke
I also think the NCAA eventually steps in and caps conference membership at around 20 schools to prevent endless expansion.
To rebuild, the ACC adds programs like Memphis, Tulane, USF, and UConn.
That weakens the AAC, which then loses North Texas and UTSA to the Pac-12.
The AAC still has plenty of money, though, so it starts poaching from other conferences. The biggest loss for the Mountain West is Air Force, since the AAC can finally put all three service academies in one conference and market the Commander-in-Chief Trophy every season.
At the same time, Hawaii becomes independent again. It isn’t because the relationship is bad—it’s purely a business decision. The travel costs outweigh the revenue they bring to the conference.
That leaves the Mountain West with:
Wyoming
San Jose State
UNLV
Nevada
New Mexico
UTEP
North Dakota State
Northern Illinois

**My Expansion Plan**
I only add schools that I think improve the conference geographically, financially, and competitively.
**Missouri State (C-USA)**
Missouri State gives North Dakota State and Northern Illinois a much closer travel partner while extending the conference into the central United States. They’re an ambitious athletic department and fit the conference footprint much better than people give them credit for.
**New Mexico State (C-USA)**
This one feels like the easiest decision.
I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t happened already. Forget the politics between New Mexico and New Mexico State administratively, let’s get it done.
They create natural rivalries with New Mexico and UTEP, reduce travel costs, and they’re already familiar with the region. Some years they’re competitive, other years they’re rebuilding, but I think they’re a solid long-term Mountain West school.
**Sacramento State (MAC)**
I know they’re currently in the MAC, but I don’t think that’s their long-term home.
If they ever decide to move west after establishing themselves at the FBS level, I don’t think the Pac-12 takes them. That makes the Mountain West the obvious landing spot.
They strengthen the conference’s California footprint while giving San Jose State, Nevada, and UNLV another nearby conference opponent.

**New Mountain West**
Wyoming
Sacramento State
San Jose State
UNLV
Nevada
New Mexico
New Mexico State
UTEP
North Dakota State
Missouri State
Northern Illinois
My goal wasn’t to create another superconference. I wanted to build a conference with a clear identity—one that’s geographically connected, financially sustainable, and capable of competing with the AAC as the top Group of Five conference.
What would you change? Would you target different schools, keep Air Force or Hawaii, or take the conference in a completely different direction?

New member spotlight: UC Davis

Taken from UC Davis forums @ aggiesportstalk.com

UC Davis moved to D1 in 2007 but has fielded athletic teams since 1915. The Aggies were a bit of a perennial powerhouse in D2 with something like 8 national championships (including MBB in 1998) and 20 consecutive conference titles in football. Davis won four consecutive NACDA Director’s Cups (1999–2003). This award specifically recognizes the institution with the highest overall athletic success across all sports in a given year. Winning it four years in a row is perhaps the best evidence of their dominance.

Since moving to D1, Davis has won 6 regular season titles in MBB, 9 total championships in conference WBB, a dozen or so water polo conference championships, 2018 Big Sky FB championship and more.

UC Davis Soccer has sent multiple players to the MLS, most notably Max Arfsten who is on the current Team USA world cup team. Football's Teddye Buchanan is a standout on the Ravens, Lan Larison plays for the New England Patriots, Dan Whelan plays for the Packers and former Sac Kings BB forward Chima Moneke was formerly an Aggie BB player.

In earlier years, UC Davis cemented themselves with historic NFL talent like Ken O'Brien, Rolf Benirschke, and J.T. O'Sullivan.

Now for fun facts
-UC Davis hosts a "First-Year Field Storm". Gunrock (our horse mascot) leads the incoming class of freshmen onto the field to celebrate the start of their collegiate experience. It’s a rite of passage that makes the students feel like true members of the Aggie community.
-The Doxie Derby where Dachshunds race to the finish line. It is organized by the School of Veterinary Medicine to raise funds for their licensing exams.
-Davis is famous for its bright red London double-decker buses. They aren't just for show, they are a functional, primary part of the public transit system, and most of the drivers are UC Davis students.
-Davis is widely considered the Bicycle Capital of the United States.
-At 5,300 acres, UC Davis is the largest campus in the entire University of California system by land area. It’s significantly larger than many other major research universities, which helps contribute to its "small town, big campus" feel.
-While it started as a "University Farm" (the research arm for UC Berkeley) in 1908, it grew into a powerhouse. UC Davis is widely regarded as a top-10 public university in the nation. Our forestry, Ag and Vet programs are #1 or #2 in the country or world.
-UC Davis has a nuclear reactor, space debris, an arboretum and our original mascot buried somewhere ALL on campus

UC Davis Athletic Facilities: We announced a plan to improve our facilities shortly after announcing the MW move. Some pretty exciting stuff totaling over $265 million dollars. Find it here: https://aggieascent.ucdavis.edu/

Capacity & Attendance:

UC Davis Health Stadium (Football/Lacrosse) has a capacity of 10,743 with a record attendance of over 17,000 (set in 2025).

The University Credit Union Center (Basketball/Volleyball) has a capacity of 6,000 and a historical record attendance of 7,926.

Dobbins Baseball Complex has a capacity of 3,500.

Toomey Field (Track & Field) has a historical capacity of 10,000+ (now a thousand or so). Aggie Soccer Field has a capacity of approximately 1,000.

Schaal Aquatics Center (Swim/Dive/Water Polo) has a capacity of approximately 500.

La Rue Field (Softball) has a capacity of approximately 300.

Mountain West Realignment

It is the offseason, which means you get an offseason post.

I want to share my fantasy Mountain West moving forward. I think the Mountain West has been smart by adding football only members, especially NDSU. I think NIU is a little odd, but we can work with that. UC Davis will join the FBS ranks in time. I think it is really unlikely that GCU will add Football.

This is a fantasy..........

The goal is to build a G6 football conference that will produce a good on-field product while trying to limit the negatives by the 2030 season.

I think you build a North division and a South division to limit the distance needed to travel, and I like divisions. I would like to see 7 teams in each division, with a requirement to play the other 6 division teams each year, and 3 teams from the other division each season. That makes 9 total conference games.

Current Northern Teams: NIU, NDSU, Wyoming, and Air Force. Current Southern Teams: UTEP, New Mexico, UNLV, Nevada, San Jose State, and Hawaii.

So, I will look to add 3 teams to the North, and 2 teams to the South.

North

South Dakota State: SDSU is the other Dakota powerhouse in the FCS and will make a good travel triangle for those Northern schools. I think it supports the idea of making a good, improved product on the field.

Montana & Montana State: Both schools have good football traditions and passionate fanbases. Both have had great success and continue the theme of taking top FCS programs.

South

UC Davis: This is 99% likely to happen, since they are already a member of the Mountain West for everything but football.

Northern Arizona University: I think the second South school is probably where you have the highest number of choices because there is no clear and easy choice. Some names I thought of were Tarleton State, New Mexico State, or GCU gaining football. Although not the best choice, I wanted something outside of the box. So, let me pitch you on NAU. They are a perfect geographic fit being in northern Arizona. NAU has an enrollment of over 28,000 students. They have a $300+ million endowment fund. Honestly, not a great choice, but I wanted to have some fun lol.

2026 San Jose State Preview

Ken Niumatalolo and the Spartans have a new beginning in 2026, can they return to their winning ways?

📌 Hawaii Bowl hero Luke Weaver comes over to take the reigns of the offense

📌 History tells us someone is going to emerge to have a massive year at receiver. There are a lot of candidates 👀

📌 The Spartans defense will be retooled but there are promising pieces, especially in the secondary

Can the Spartans rebound? How many wins do they finish with in 2026?

UNLV is the highest rated team in MWC in initial College Football 27 ratings

EA released overall ratings for every team in College Football 27. UNLV leads the Mountain West at 78 OVR, while NDSU is the highest-rated newcomer at 75 OVR.
What do you think? Which teams are overrated? Underrated?
