His "lovable idiot" persona is an act. He pretend to be naive and carefree most of the time, but there is plenty of moments (especially when he's alone or only with V), when he is serious and contemplative. He is also very perceptive, and natural psychologist.
He quicly dedused that there something fishi with malfunctioned communicator on their ship, realised that V hiding something shortly after she stopped ignoring him, understud Uzi messed up fealings in ep4, made unusually logical by horror standarts in both ep5 and 6... Unlike most other characters, he usually analised situation before acting.
It's understandable why his cutesy "outer persona" is so well liked, but personally i like his real, deep and complex, character much more.
