I had the dac biet, the wife had the BBH. Both of us were very pleased, as usual.
What's interesting and something I never knew--the same husband and wife team own both this place and Phở Ngon in Kingstowne. Sàigòn Ới is apparently run by the husband and Ngon by the wife. Ngon is decent as well, but in my experience the husband's crew is doing a better overall job.
I last went to Pho 85 in Oakton for pho and mentioned how my nephew enjoyed the bbh from a previous trip. I finally got the bbh and was overall pretty satisfied.
Pluses include a very hot in temperature broth. The photo looks like it’s lacking protein, but there was roughly 6 slices of beef shank in there and they were super tender. Then there were two types of cha and the congealed blood cubes. Also, if I see sliced banana blossom in the accoutrement dish, I’m a happy camper.
Now the not so good. The pork hock wasn’t as tender. But other than that this bowl was solid.
Stopped in today about 1:30 to give this shop a try.
I guess my biggest take away is the strip mall on the weekend is a complete and total disaster. They have a flea market adjacent and everyone is funneled to one exit point. Getting in wasn’t bad but it took almost a hour to get out of the parking lot.
Anyway decided to try the BBH and got the H1 which is beef shank, tendon, pig's knuckle, blood cake, pork sausage, crab balls. Broth had pretty good flavor and all the ingredients seemed high quality. Everything went together really well and certainly would get again. Probably top 5 I have tried in the area.
I would certainly go back but would be cautious that it wasn’t during the flea market hours.
Anyone seen this old poll from Nothern Virginia Magazine? And do people like Pho Hot on here? I haven't seen many posts about it
This restaurant recently moved to 11th and Rhode Island NW from 14th st in Columbia heights. It has been my favorite pho location for a decade. I always order “medium spicy” 🥵. Fresh everything and great apps too.
Went here on u/ltsmemang2157 recommendation. Got the BBH since I had pho earlier in the week. Very good broth and excellent beef quality, with one short rib bone and a few slices of eye round, meatball and shank. No blood sausage but I don’t mind. Noodles were a lil overcooked and the summer rolls were pretty standard. Overall very happy with it but would skip the rolls next time.
Late lunch at Truong Tien today. Not my favorite BBH, but it’s always really good and certainly one of a kind in this area. Very different. It’s a smaller bowl but at $14 a nice meal. Also grabbed a banh mi just around the corner at Nhu Lan which is my favorite in Eden center.
