What are your thoughts on alterations for this Zegna Couture suit?
Recently acquired a mid-2010s Zegna Couture suit (guessing year based on the tags) for $250 on eBay. Lots of amazing handwork and an incredible fabric. Unfortunately, it feels too slim to me, though I'm not sure if I'm just used to wearing vintage Armani and fuller cut suits more recently. IMO, it would be a total keeper if it weren't a little too slim. To me, the cut reminds me of the slim Tom Ford suits from Spectre.
The suit does have a lot of seam allowance for expanding the leg and seat of the pants, along with some room to let out in the chest of the jacket. I'm currently thinking of the current alterations:
- let out the chest a little (button point pulls a bit)
- shorten the sleeves a bit
- let out waist/seat a bit (photo 6 shows that it's giving me a wedgie, and photo 8 shows the seat allowance)
- Perhaps expand the leg of the pants so they're not so slim (photo 8 is the leg allowance)
Would these alterations throw off the proportional balance of the suit? Should I also expand the sleeves a little for a fuller arm to match the proportions? I'm okay spending a decent bit on alterations, given that it's a very high-quality suit that I got for cheap.
