I’m wasting my time, aren’t I?

I recently signed up for the next exam and I was really excited. I’ve been studying hard and I feel confident that I’ll get a good score. But after reading some of these posts, it’s setting in that this probably isn’t going to happen for me.

The first problem is that I have tattoos on my fingers. They’re dark. I’ve started removal, but it’s going to take a year to see some progress. Everything I read says it usually takes a year for a call back, so I thought I’d at least buy myself some time. While they’ll fade in time, my tech has recently told me they definitely won’t be gone by then.

Here’s the other part. I am clinically bipolar. I’ve never had an episode or anything other than depression, but it’s hereditary and my mom passed it down. I’ve been successfully treated for years and am a really even keeled person with a squeaky clean record. But the more I read here about people failing psych tests for depression alone makes me think this is a no-go.

I guess I know the answer is that it’s just not in the cards for me. But figured I’d make a post about it since I’m kind of down in the dumps over it. Thanks for any insights you can share.

Questionnare

Hi all, I took and passed the exam back in October of 2025 and wanted to know what the rest of the hiring process is like. I’m scheduled to take the PAT next month while also currently on psych appeal with the NYPD. How difficult is the psych exam for CO compared to NYPD? Would they ask if you’ve taken any other civil service exams as well as those respective hiring processes? Also at any point in the CO hiring process, would the question of whether you have ever taken a polygraph exam ever come up?
