Registering a Solo Writing & Digital Services Firm in Kathmandu/Kirtipur. What Surprised You?

I’m currently in the process of registering my solo business, XYZ, a small writing and digital services firm based around Kathmandu/Kirtipur.

On paper, the process seems pretty straightforward:

Rent Agreement → Ward Registration → IRD/Business PAN → Bank Current Account

But I’m more interested in the real-world experience. For those who have recently registered a sole proprietorship (Niji Firm) in Nepal, what things caught you off guard that aren’t usually mentioned in guides?

1. Ward Registration & Landlord Documents

  • Did your Ward ask for additional documents, such as the landlord’s land tax/Malpot receipts?
  • How strict were they about the Ghar Bahal Samjhauta?
  • If you put a relatively low/token rent in the agreement, did the Ward or tax officer question it?

2. IRD & Business PAN

  • If your annual turnover is below NPR 10 lakh, how straightforward was the D01/presumptive tax process in practice?
  • For a business offering multiple services (writing, web development, digital services, etc.), did you have any difficulty choosing the appropriate business/activity codes?
  • Did the IRD officer ask for anything you weren’t expecting?

3. Bank Account & Online Payments

  • Which bank was the easiest to work with for opening a business current account for a newly registered sole proprietorship?
  • Did you face any issues getting merchant/payment services such as eSewa, Khalti, or ConnectIPS for your website or invoices?
  • Is a basic Business PAN and firm registration generally enough, or did the bank/payment provider ask for additional documents?

4. Hindsight

What’s one mistake you made during the registration process that resulted in an unnecessary delay, extra cost, or another trip to the office?

Any practical tips, unexpected requirements, hidden/extra costs, or things you wish you had known beforehand would be really helpful.

TL;DR: I’m registering a solo writing & digital services firm (XYZ) in Kathmandu/Kirtipur. If you’ve recently gone through Ward → IRD → Bank registration, what surprised you or caused the most hassle?

Pathao Commerce

What do you guys think about recently launched Pathao Commerce? Value for money or not? Too complicated/complex with lots of features?

What do you think an ideal solution like Pathao Commerce should have and should not have?

Work Labour Permit 2026

Hi,

I am Toni, here from Spain. I am travelling to Nepal for personal reasons on this October and I am highly interested in bringing Nepali workforce to my construction company.

However, I have been hearing bad news regarding working overseas as a Nepali; awful government practices, people taking advantage of the system, Manpower issues and so on.

Would gladly appreciate receiving any newest feedback of the situation.

Thanks.

I want to build a startup around cultural food — looking for people who want to build it with me 🌍

Hey everyone! 👋

I’ve been thinking about starting a startup based around culture and food, and I’m looking for people who might be interested in building the idea together.

The idea is pretty simple:

Every culture has a story, and food is one of the best ways to tell that story.

For example, I’m from Madhesh, and if I had to choose one food that represents my culture, I’d choose Thekua. It’s strongly associated with Chhath, and for many people it represents not just a sweet/snack, but the festival, traditions, family, and culture around it.

I want to create something where we can do this for different cultures — finding foods that genuinely represent their traditions, festivals, history and identity, and bringing those foods/stories to a wider audience.

It could eventually become a food brand, platform, marketplace, or something completely different. I'm still figuring that part out

If you're interested, comment your culture/country/region and one food that represents it to you. I'd love to see how many different stories we can collect. ❤️

And if you're genuinely interested in helping build this from the ground up, feel free to DM me. ☺️

How do Nepalese companies actually cross-check/verify experience letters?

Hey everyone, I'm curious about the background verification culture in nepal. How frequently do HR departments in nepalese companies (especially IT, banking, and corporates) actually reach out to previous employers to cross-check an experience letter? With how easy it is to fabricate PDFs or print out a fake letterhead, do companies have a solid system to catch fake experience certificates? Have you or anyone you know ever been caught, or does HR usually just take the paper at face value and move on?I am starting a new company and currently I don't have any team or HR to help me in this hiring process. Would love to hear from HR professionals or anyone who has insight into this!

Need Someone to Guide Us Through Business Registration in Nepal

We are currently operating as a YouTube channel and are now planning to establish it as a registered business in Nepal. We are looking for someone who can guide us through the entire business registration process, including the legal requirements, documentation, and any other necessary steps.

We're also looking to build a long-term working relationship. If we're a good fit, we'd be happy to collaborate on future business-related matters as well.

If you have experience with business registration in Nepal or can recommend someone who does, we'd love to connect.
