The Japan coast guard ship
One cool thing about living here is every now and then a huge ship pulls in to the pier.
It left today around 5pm.

Any suggestions for where to get electrolysis?
I'd like to give credit where credit is due to the NVRC. This morning's mad rush at 7am to sign up for swimming lessons went a lot smoother than last time, when the site completely crashed.
I was skeptical about the waiting room system, but it seemed to work well, and we managed to snag one of the very last spots for our toddler.
Of course everything still filled up within minutes, but at least the site seemed to work a lot better.
The Guidebook - New Official Trailer Drop and North Van Screening!
Come watch The Guidebook (directed by Alexi Liotti) screening on May 24, 7PM at Valhalla Pure Outfitters in North Vancouver alongside What it Takes (directed by Alex Clapin). Ortovox and The North Face supported in producing these films, and North Shore Rescue will be in attendance, with proceeds going to NSR. Screenings will be followed by a community discussion with the filmmakers, NSR, and the audience. Refreshments available!
The Guidebook follows Matt as he travels through the Sea-to-Sky corridor and surrounding ranges to establish new routes and revisit old ones—while confronting a deeper internal struggle: the responsibility that comes with providing information that can lead people into dangerous or deadly situations in the mountains. With insight and involvement from Squamish Search and Rescue, the film highlights the real consequences, risks, and ethical weight behind documenting and sharing alpine access.
I’m looking for whole wheat sourdough bread recommendations in or near Lower Lonsdale. Thanks in advance
I am suffering with inter-metatarsal bursitis on my right foot, a fluid filled sack in my foot. Which makes it very painful to walk and well…exist. I’ve seen a clinic doctor, my family doctor and now Dr. Dixon at ‘Foot Clinic’ on 19th and Lonsdale.
I’m not thrilled with the care I received at the foot clinic. Dr. Dixon is a very nice man and is pretty funny too. But after two appointments I have no relief. And the appointments seem to be him just talking away about things that don’t have anything to do with my foot and my pain.
Does anyone have any experience with a good foot doctor with good bedside manner, in a modern day, professional office setting?
Has anyone had any experience with bursitis?
Anyone have any relief???
I’m losing hope. My quality of life is deteriorating….its so exhausting to be in pain all day and I work on my feet. I miss walking rice lake or around the neighbourhood. I’ve said no to various things because I can’t fathom standing in pain for long. I’m desperate for some relief and I need a good doctor please help.
Thanks

Thank you to the lovely woman who shared her barbari bread with me while I was working this morning.
Gestures like this and even friendly conversation, make such a lasting impact on people's day.
Hope y'all are having a wonderful Tuesday!
Gringos gone ‼️ looks like more Persian pastries 🥐
Hi there, ISO a salon on the North Shore that carries Kerastase products! Supernova on Lonsdale recently stopped carrying it, so now I need to find a new place. I know that Sephora carries some Kerastase products, but not the line I use.
Thanks!
My husband and I live in the Mount Seymour area and are going to be renting out our townhouse that we adore and have lived in for the last four years. We’ve never been landlords before and are trying to be as careful and considerate as possible. The reason we’re doing so is that we have to move abroad for a few years for work. We love our space and will be returning to it to occupy it when we come back.
Basically, we’re brand new to this. We’ve tried asking some people in person, but have received some flack for being landlords at all (we aren’t the owners of multiple properties and aren’t buying up real estate to price others out). We have some idea of the tax forms and strata forms, but we also want to be good landlords for our tenant(s).
We’ve explored the idea of using a property management company, though the reviews on these services seem to be all over the place. Fees vary between 6-8% of the monthly rent. We like the idea of them being available same-day in case anything goes wrong since we’ll be out of country, but a lot of reviews suggest they aren’t reliable and you’re paying quite a bit of money for little to no help. And they haven’t disclosed their vetting process for tenants.
My husband’s biggest concern is getting bad tenants who squat and refuse to pay rent (whether on purpose or circumstantially) because we do need to charge rent to help cover the mortgage since we’ll be paying rent ourselves while abroad and can’t fund both at the same time time.
Basically, we’d love to hear the experience of others. Do you have any tips or suggestions? If you wouldn’t mind sharing your experience, we’d appreciate it!
I’m not sure if the details matter at all, but here’s the description:
Three bedrooms (giant primary) and two dens
Duplex-style townhouse (one shared side)
Two and a half bathrooms
Living room and family room
Private two-car garage
Unfenced yard
Incredible residential neighbourhood with excellent walking paths and hikes
5 minute drive to Deep Cove
Excellent catchment schools
7 minute walk to the Parkgate shopping plaza with everything you could possibly need
10 minute walk to the Parkgate community centre and library
Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
On Friday and then this morning our power cut for a few minutes or so. My workplace on cap and also my friends around the shore had this too.
What's going on to keep causing these? Anybody else experiencing them?
Owner located, thanks everyone!
Edit: owner has been found via FB! They will retrieve Ruby from the animal shelter.
Dog found near Cates Park, large goiter, cataract in one eye, overgrown nails, welts, matted hair and burs. She's old but very friendly, approached us while shaking and was about to get hit by a car. No collar.
We're not from here and can't keep her until her home is found (if she still has one, I hope she wasn't abandoned :/ ). Tried calling Bosleys pet store for advice, and their recommendations were the BCSPCA. Have been trying to call the BCSPCA but keep getting sent to voicemail or trying numbers which say they don't have voicemail but are busy and to try calling again later. The closest location to us is in Burnaby, but their voicemail indicated they don't accept lost animals? Is this true?
Tried calling the West Van location and the Line is always busy. Don't really want to drive over there just to find out they won't accept her.
Any ideas of other shelters we can take her?

I'm buying my first paddleboard (iSUP) after trying it out a few times last summer. I've only been to Deer Lake and other spots around the Lower Mainland, but haven't done it here on the North Shore.
What are the good spots to try?
What are conditions like at Cates Park and Deep Cove for a beginner?
And a really specific question for those who are more experienced or have a board - do you recommend one or three fins for paddleboarding on the North Shore, or does it matter?
Thanks for any input!
I’ve walked by a few today that look really nice from a decor perspective (eg Eivan, Akbarjoojeh but haven’t tried them) curious to hear from anyone who wouldn’t be super familiar with the cuisine if there’s any you’ve tried that were absolute stand outs? Hoping to try somewhere that has a ton of flavour and high quality ingredients.
Hoping I’m wording this ok but have found in the past the reviews on Google sometimes don’t always reflect the actual experience so wanted to ask this sub.
UPDATE: We ended to going to Akbarjoojeh and it was absolutely brilliant! Food was incredibly flavourful, service was super prompt and attentive, and portions were huge (prices seemed really expensive at first like $49 for a main but you could split it with two people).
What we got:
- fried eggplant dip and shallot yogurt (this was recommended by our server if it’s your first time and it was so so good, especially great to keep some for your main after too)
- spiral skewer (tenderloin and chicken) with the rice with different toppings. Meat was so flavourful and tender, not oily, rice was really fresh
- jalepeno Beef kebab with bread
- Persian tea at the end (really nice and was cool it came with a stick of rock candy that you’re meant to put in the tea and stir it in which melts and sweetness it)
Overall 5/5 and was honestly pleasantly surprised. Definitely can see why this place is always busy. Thanks for your responses!
Where can I buy a jar of kimchi? Looking for authentic not grocery store. Thanks!
