Gonzalez was born in New York, of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent.[1] His parents met in Washington, DC, where they married. They moved and settled down in the Bushwick section of Brooklynwhere they raised Gonzalez.[2] His parents were later divorced. He attended elementary and junior high school while living in Brooklyn. Ever since he was a young child, Gonzalez would put on improvised "shows" for his family and participate in all of his school's plays. His teachers were instrumental in convincing Gonzalez to apply and try out for LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts, on which Fame was based, in Manhattan. He did as suggested and was accepted. In 1997, he graduated and began to pursue a career in acting.[3]
Have you all heard the 'whispers' about Jaafar maybe playing Tiger Woods if they did a biopic? What are your thoughts?
Also, would it be an issue knowing that Jaafar has no Asian ancestry?
Jaafar is half-Colombian. Jaafar's mother has described herself as being Afro-Colombian. This means she recognizes her Spanish (European), Indigenous, and African roots.
Tiger used to describe himself as "Cablinasian". This means: Caucasian, Black, American Indian, and Asian. His father had some Caucasian and American Indian ancestry in his background. Tiger's mother was Thai and Chinese.
What are your thoughts? Can you see Jaafar 'possibly' playing Tiger?
Do you think ethnicity matters in this case?
Would it be disrespectful to play him, knowing he has no Asian ancestry?
Happy Birthday to the great comedian and versatile actor.
I hear some talk about Jaafar Jackson being nominated for playing Michael Jackson. He did win his first acting award and some MJfans saying it is a road to the academy awards. I just want to hear some unbiased thoughts on this.
McGruder started his comic strip The Bookdocks in 1996. It grew until it ended up in the University of Maryland's newspaper The Diamondback.
McGruder eventually signed a deal with Universal Press Syndicate in 1999, where the comic strip ended up in about 160 newspapers.
In 2005, McGruder moved up to the big leagues. His show landed on Cartoon Network. The show was presented in the late evenings along with other Adult Swim programming geared toward an audience of mostly people in the 18-30 age group.
The show became popular due to its mix of conversations around current events, politics, entertainment, and social justice issues, while handling them in humorous ways. He used his variety of characters to tell all kinds of interesting stories. The show became a hit and lasted 4 seasons.
The show also had a great cast starting with the talented Regina King. She did the voices of the young boys on the show Huey and Riley Freeman.
Unfortunately, McGruder was not involved in the final season due to behind-the-scenes issues. The show had already returned after a several-year hiatus.
He walked away.
He co-created another show called Black Jesus in 2014. The show lasted 3 seasons.
McGruder has mostly disappeared from the spotlight in the last decade. Yet, the cultural relevance of the popular cartoon show The Boondocks lives on!
His daily life was full of gambling, wild spending sprees, women, and lavish living — now he’s selling properties, cars & jewelry to pay the IRS while going deeper into debt.

Black Gothic films are described as films that deal with some horror, ancestral hauntings, family secrets, and generational curses through the lens of the Black experience.
Some of the more well-known Black Gothic films would be Daughters of the Dust (1991), Candyman (1992), Eve's Bayou (1997), Beloved (1998), Spell (2020), and then of course Sinners (2025).
Please discuss and share your thoughts on the Black Southern Gothic films. Do you hope that with the success of Sinners, more filmmakers will expand on this genre?
Legendary.
Lathan, who is of African American heritage, was born in New York City.[1] Her mother, Eleanor McCoy, was also an actress and dancer.[1]
Lathan's adolescence was a tough period. She has stated she was a latchkey kid whose parents weren't around much. As a result, she was left with relatives who abused drugs. However, she went on to develop a solid relationship with her parents in the ensuing years.[5]
She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor's degree in English. She then attended Yale University and earned a master's degree in drama.[6]
