Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Outdoor community there ?

Hi everyone !

I will move to Austria next year and i'm looking a nice city to live. Already made a lot of research and it seems that for me Innsbruck and Salzburg are the best cities for me. Indeed, i'm looking for a decent sized city closed to the mountains so Vienna is too far away.

I visited both cities and found them both very nice. In fact, I had more vibes for the calmess of Salzburg and the fact that the city is not direct in the mountains. I love outdoor activities (skiing, biking especially) and i know that for that Innsbruck is very well known.

So I wanted to know how developped is the outdoor community ? Is there some bike clubs for example ? I am 30M and i read that Salzburg is not a city for "young" peoples but I always found it exagerated.

That you !

How to explore Salzburg with kids ? (Music + Salt + any else)

Hi all,

How to teach my kids the How + Why and skip the What in Salzburg ?

Father with 2 kids age 12 and 14, who are playing Piano for 3.5 years. We are on a European tour, visiting Beethoven house, Cathedral , mountains. I would like to cover the theme of music + mining history + trading history with them.

I will do the Berchtesgaden salt mine tomorrow, and I have free time from now 17:30 until the end of tomorrow to do something else.

I have explained the whole wiki page of Mozart life to the kids, we have tried to understand how the Salt Popped up near the ground near the Alps, and how the Celt did mining and then emigrated to Anatolia and Scotland.

We would like to understand the how and why, and skip the what and the check-in photos or the tourist hype. We have skipped the Born house of Mozart for that reason.

Also we would like to be cheap, as we believe many high cost tickets are for unknowning tourists.

Any suggestions are welcome. BIG THANkS

Will I be able to get to get from the Obertauern Skigebiet to Salzburg airport on the second of january 2027 via public transport?

I am planning a ski trip to the Obertauern ski area in Austria and will be returning home on Saturday, 2 January 2027. I need to travel from Obertauern to Salzburg Airport using public transport, in particular Bus Line 280, and I plan to depart as early as 7am.

I have only been able to find bus timetables from the previous year and am unsure whether the same schedule will apply this year. Could you confirm whether public transport-both the 280 bus and connecting trains;will be operating that early on that date?

Did the Salzburg Police Just Rob Me?

Hello!

I’m a tourist who visited Salzburg for the day but just had a few unusual experiences. Please see below for the series of events.

  1. I drop off my wife and daughter to do a “The Sound of Music” tour.

  2. Because we woke up early to drive from Tyrol, I drive a couple of blocks away and take a nap in the rental car.

  3. I wake up to A FUCKING BUS SIDESWIPING MY CAR.

  4. The bus driver and I take photos, etc. and he leaves.

  5. I spend 60 minutes trying to get my phone to work in Austria to call the rental car company. They tell me to call the police to get a police report.

  6. The police show up, check my breath for alcohol, try to determine if different police already filled out a police report and tell me that I’m facing a penalty because I don’t have an international driver’s license.

  7. They tell me if I want a police report, it will cost roughly €40. The license penalty is €400. They only accept cash because “Salzburg is not that futuristic”.

  8. After confirming that I have no cash, they guide me to 2 different ATM’s to get cash. Because €400 is the limit.

  9. After I was only able to extract €400, they called their boss to confirm that it was acceptable. It was.

  10. They take me back to their police station where I handed them the cash, then I sat in a front room for 10 minutes, they give me a couple of German forms with my name misspelled, and come out to tell me that I can maybe get my money back.

  11. They gave me receipts for the cash. Which I was surprised by. Though, the quantities were lower than they originally told me. The end.

This all felt very odd and I was just curious. Do cops normally escort people to banks to take out cash for minor penalties? They took my cash but still haven’t sent me the police report, a few hours later.

Package stuck at the Salzburg Post

Hi! I was just traveling in Salzburg from the US and mailed myself a box with souvenirs, gifts, and personal items we didn't need anymore at that point in our trip. I didn't know that you can only ship gifts (?!) and that there is a limit on the value, so they returned it to my Airbnb and then the Post Office. I can't get it back unless I authorize someone to pick it up and they reship it to me. It has all of our souvenirs from a long trip to that point so we really want it back. It's nothing valuable or expensive otherwise.

Does anyone know of a service that would do this? I'm happy to pay someone to do this and even ship you a gift from the US in return for the favor. Maybe an expat wants some Diet Coke? Lol

Any ideas? I really hate to lose that stuff.

Thank you!

Wollladen

Servus Leute,

Falls jemand nen Tipp hat gerne her damit :)

Police stopped my car for riding faster than 10 km/h ???

Short: Netherlands car, Asian driver, kids on board, police checked passport and used torch to "search" my car. Is this normal ?

Yesterday (2026.Aug.17) evening, 21:20, I was passing a position between Salzburg and Freilassing. There were a bunch of 2-3 police cars, plus a blinking sign (on a stationary device) saying "Polizei" and a big arrow telling the cars to follow a certain lane. The evening befor (2026.Aug.16) I also saw them at the same spot.

A police officer waved a sign to stop me. He seemed unfriendly, and spoke no English, and demanded to see my passport, while pointing his torch light onto the face of my kids on the back seat. His younger colleague explained to me, in a language that I later reconstructed as: "we were standing on the street, you were not allowed to drive more than 10 km/h"

I don't trust it !!!

- During the last 20 minutes before that event, everybody was driving faster than me, some cars even flashed me for driving too slowly. It was rainy and dark and I couldn't see the directions (straight or split) marking on the lanes, unlike in the Netherlands.

- While we were standing there everyone was driving fast passing us

- Standing from the police station I could see the sign 70 km/h at 100m further.

400m Laufbahn gesucht
