IT HAPPENED AGAIN — but worse! Baby powder saga!

I posted the other day —> https://www.reddit.com/r/Sauna/s/vIs0Gvm6u1

Remember my post about the baby powder all over the sauna? Well… apparently that wasn’t a one-time thing.

walked in today and honestly thought someone had opened a bakery in there. The benches? Dusted. The floor? Snow-covered. The mats? Powdered donut status.

I genuinely need to know what is happening. Is someone applying baby powder by the handful before entering? Are we seasoning ourselves now? Are we preparing to be breaded and fried?

And yes, I KNOW it’s baby powder and not dirt. But WHY is there enough of it to leave footprints?! Everytime someone moves, I feel like I’m watching a low-budget music video with a fog machine.

At this point I’m afraid to sit down because I don’t want to leave looking like I just rolled around in flour.

Posting the pictures because I promise I am not exaggerating.

Our own little hot spot

hi all, i wanted to share what my wife and i built. we really enjoy it, it gets hot in about 30 minutes and does not take much wood to keep it hot 🔥😎

i took lots of advice in this group. might not be perfect to everyone but for us it's perfect.

the chimney height was adjusted with another 2 feet section it was not sucking enough air in.

thank you for all the tips and tricks over the years i read posts and comments for 2 years before jumping in.

i am open to criticism if you see anything that does not make you happy karen 😝

DIY 8x12 Sauna (Unfinished)

I've been using this sauna since christmas day but broke my wrist soon after so Ill be finishing it over winter when i have more free time. I'll do a proper detailed post then.

Hotroom interior 5.5' x 7' and 9' tall. White deal cladding covered with black sauna wax and poplar benches. Benches are removable. Lighting is worked by an ecoflow power station w' solar and aliexpress lights. Stove is a harvia cilindro 20 with 170kg of stones.

Stove takes about an hour and a half to heat up, its definitely overkill here. Its more like a steam room sometimes when Im throwing water over myself, Id never been able to cool the stones. Llolyl is very soft and long lasting, throwing on the chimney net creates a long quicker harsher llolyl.

Concrete uninsulated reinforced foundation, roof is standing seam, exterior cladding yakisugi style white deal linseed oiled. Entire build was about 6-7 thousand euros.

SAUNA on BOARD 🛥️ 🧖‍♀️ Has anyone built or rented a sauna on a boat? Looking for recommendations & real-talk advice

Hey everyone,
We’ve been seeing floating saunas pop up all over the place lately and we did already an Event for L’Oréal with a Sauna on the Sundeck and now clients are completely obsessed with the Wellness idea. Mixing a proper wood-fired hot session with an immediate water cold plunge straight off the deck seems like the ultimate setup.

I wanted to ask the community a few questions:

? For those who have used one: Is it as good as it looks online, or is it mostly just a gimmick for social media?

? For anyone who owns or built one: What are the biggest hidden headaches? Beside marine insurance and open fire on Board.

Layout preference: Do you prefer stationary floating sauna docks, or actual motorized sauna boats where you can cruise out to a quiet spot first?

Would love to hear your experiences, favorite spots, or any build advice!

Heater for outdoor sauna, colder climate

I'm located in Manitoba, where winter temperatures regularly reach -30°C. I'm building an outdoor sauna with exterior dimensions of 8' deep × 7' wide, a sloped roof, and wall heights of 8'6" on the high side and 7'6" on the low side. The sauna will be fully insulated, including the floor.

Based on the finished interior dimensions (6'1" × 7'1") and average interior height, I calculate the sauna volume at approximately ~335 ft³.

Based on heater sizing charts, that puts me in the range of a 9 kW heater. However, both a local dealer and Homecraft have recommended a 10 kW unit.

I'm debating between:

  • Homecraft Apex Mini 9 kW (32" tall)
  • Homecraft Apex 10 kW (36" tall)

My concern with the 10 kW is the extra height. Following Trumpkin's recommendations, I'd like to keep the benches high enough that bathers are at or above the top of the stones, so every inch matters.

For those with experience in very cold climates:

  • Would you choose the 9 kW or the 10 kW for a ~335 ft³ insulated sauna?
  • Will a 9 kW heater struggle to maintain temperature during Manitoba winters?
  • Will the 10 kW heat the sauna noticeably faster?
  • Any experience with Wi-Fi vs. non-Wi-Fi controls in extreme cold? Any reliability issues?

I'd appreciate any real-world feedback, especially from people running similar sized saunas in cold climates. thank you in advance

Canadian Climate

Has anyone in Canada (specifically Alberta/Sask/Manitoba) or the colder norther States bought a sauna from Backyard Discovery?
I’m curious how it holds up in a place where we get a lot of snow and it’s actually cold in the winter

Best affordable electric sauna kit around 5' by 8' size?

What is the best electric heated sauna kit around 5' by 8' size? I'm thinking about quality built at an affordable price. Vents can be added; benches can be moved up; kiuas needs to be good; drainage is a must. I prefer solid wood walls.

Any photo examples of a 5x7 sauna room, or the finished interior of an outdoor sauna with 6x8 (exterior dimensions)?

As the title says. I've been planning to build an outdoor sauna in a space that can hold about 6x8 feet of framing (siding, etc can be additional inches). I'm trying to visualize what that looks like on the inside, assuming 2x4 walls and interior cladding. My door will be on the short side, but open to any photos people are willing to share.

I can also visualize the same thing looking at a 5x7 ft finished interior (I know it will be slightly bigger).

Thank you all in advance!

Rok Wellness 6-Person outdoor sauna

A person on Facebook is selling these saunas at a discount to what is listed on their website. Offering assembly for an extra $600. The 6-person is on their website for $7,800. This person is offering to ship it to my house for $6,000.

Does anyone have any Intel on these saunas? It's more expensive than what I was looking at before (Lennon outdoor cube sauna).

Question one is whether anyone has any experience with this manufacturer or brand.

Question two, obviously I'm suspicious of this person on Facebook. I asked him what his relationship was, and he told me that he "works for them." That's pretty vague obviously. I have emailed the manufacturer to see if they know who this person is, etc.

As always, advice and input is appreciated. I am located in the Sacramento California area.

Wood

All right. Inching toward some big decisions.

Building an outdoor sauna. On a gravel pad.

Hoping for opinions about knotty cedar versus thermo spruce for my sauna interior. Anyone bothered by the thermo smell? How long does the smell last? Not really interested in clear cedar because I am cheap.

(Benches will probably be alder)

And secondarily, any thoughts on whether the floor joists should be treated wood? They will be about 3.5 inches off the gravel pad. The rim of the floor frame will be treated.

Thank you for your consideration.

Vapor barrier installed incorrectly?

Hi-it appears my builder may have put the vapor barrier in backwards with the reflective surface pointing out instead of in.

Do we need to start over again and rip it all out, or can we just put some kind of aluminum material on the interior?

Costco sauna garage

Hello,

I’m thinking about buying an outdoor sauna and keeping it in my garage. I just bought a polar dive cold plunge this week and want to add a sauna. I don’t have anywhere outside that would work and having it in the garage should save some $s on electric work.

Is it a silly idea to have an outdoor sauna inside?

Custom sauna build. Sacramento California area

Hi, based on my reading here, most or all sauna kits are generally considered flimsy and, at best, need some custom reinforcement or work in order to become decent enough quality

Next question. If I want someone to custom build a sauna for me, where would I look? I live in the Sacramento area. Curious if anyone has any leads or advice on this subject.

It sounds like building a sauna is not very complicated, but not something I want to try myself. I'm just curious where I would start looking if I wanted someone to build one for me.

made an app so I stop skipping cold plunges. Useful or dumb?

kept skipping sessions so I built an app (ChillCommit)

it lets me:
log cold/heat sessions
set challenges / commitments
see if I’m actually consistent

basically trying to remove the “I’ll do it later” excuse

is this something you’d use, or am I just overengineering a willpower problem?

if you're curious, I'd love some feedback!

What is the most comfortable temperature?

I take sauna once a week, 80°C 15 min. Normally I’m done after 15 min.

Sometimes I feel cold, just want to stay in sauna for an hour with a cold one and relax without sweating and havibg sn hard time. What would you say is the best temperature to do so? 50? Too hot?

Building a Sauna in a space originally intended to be a closet

Hey guys and gals!

I have a space that was originally intended to be a closet, measuring 2.50×1.50 m (about 8 × 5 ft), and Im considering using it to build a sauna. I have one major concern before I proceed.

My concern is whether, after a sauna session, the adjacent room will become an oven even with proper insulation. I live in a hot climate, and the sauna would share one 8-ft wall with the room. The sauna ceiling would also be directly adjacent to the same room/area.

Im asking because I know many people here have built saunas inside their homes, so I really appreciate some real world experience. How much heat actually transfers into the surrounding room after using the sauna?

I need to know this before committing to the design, because if this is likely to make the room uncomfortably hot, I could still build the sauna outside the house instead.

Discoloured rocks, sticking to heater cage

Been running my sauna for about 3 months now, pretty much daily. Yesterday I entered and was greeted by a sharp smell. Not something you want in your sauna. It smelled a little like hitting a rock with a hammer, if you've ever smelled that smell.

Today I started unloading all the stones (harvia black vulcanite) from the heater (harvia legend pillar heater). I discovered that some of them have become discoloured, see the pictures. Specifically the ones that sit in the centre of the heater. They've browned a little, taking on a bit of a toasted look. Additionally the stones around the sides of the heater, the ones that touch the cage, have started to degrade the cage, see the pictures.

There's also a fair bit of shrapnel at the bottom of the heater, so looks like stones have been cracking.

Theories? Is the heater running too hot? Are the stones packed too tightly and not enough airflow? I definitely didn't jam the stones in there but they have fit together quite snugly like a puzzle.

Thanks for any thoughts

Hardwood outside a sauna

Anyone have hardwood outside a sauna? I'm building mine on on grade slab which currently has carpet. I plan to replace the flooring in the whole basement, and as it happens my friend has a bunch of hardwood flooring which is pre-finished lying around. I know this is a bad idea on paper, but it's free and saves me probably $2,500 on flooring. I figure if it gets ruined I'll just rip it out later. But I am trying to assess the risk before I waste my time doing this. Anyone have any experience with this?

Planning a DYI Sauna - Appreciate any plans or tips

Hi - I am planning to add Sauna to my basement in Northeast US. I have space under stairs, in the middle of the basement that is 7" X 6" X 7" (ceiling height). OR 210 cm X 180 cm.

Things that worry me:

* Ventilating to outside

* Creating drainage (or should I create a drain for dry sauna)

* Insulating the sauana.

I am good at construction, but have never built a sauna. Would appreciate any help/ tips.
