Does anyone else keep a bar of soap just because they love the scent?

I realized recently that I have one bar of soap that I never seem to use because I enjoy the scent so much. Every time I open the cabinet it makes everything smell fresh and I end up saving it for the perfect time instead of actually using it.

It made me wonder if anyone else does this or if I am just being a little strange. Do you have a favorite soap that you keep around because you love the fragrance or do you always use it right away? I would love to hear if anyone has a scent they never get tired of.

My Soap, Someone Else's Name

This actually happened to me.

I was making soap for a university project. Environmental Science assignment make something eco-friendly from scratch, document the whole process. I decided to try olive oil soap, cold process, seemed a little tricky but interesting.

Spent two weeks figuring out the ingredients, getting the ratios right, watching YouTube videos late into the night. Finally made a decent batch a little imperfect, one side was uneven, but it was mine. Took photos carefully, on the curing rack, noted every step of the process.

Presentation day came, I showed all my work. Everything went fine.

Then after class, a girl came up to me. She said, "This is your actual batch, right? The one you made yourself?

I said yeah, of course, why?

She pulled out her phone and showed me a screenshot someone else's Instagram post, the EXACT same soap, same shape, same color, same uneven side that was mine. Caption said "made this myself, so proud of it."

My head spun. I never gave that bar to anyone a classmate had just taken a photo of it during the project for reference, or so he said. He took that same photo and posted it under his own name, claiming it as his own achievement.

The strangest part was I wouldn't even have known if she hadn't told me. She recognized it because she followed soap-making a little herself, and that uneven edge had stuck in her memory from my presentation.

I didn't make a big deal out of it. Just sent a short message. This is soap from my project, please remove my work or give credit.

No reply came right away, but the post got deleted within two days.

Honestly, the anger wasn't as strong as the strange feeling that someone took my effort, those late nights of practice, the mistakes I learned from, without doing anything themselves. But what stuck with me most was that just one small detail an uneven edge was enough to bring out the truth.

Now whenever I make something, whether it's soap or anything else, I make sure of one thing I leave my mark somewhere. Small, but mine.

HONEST review of Southern Luxe Savon soaps

Hey fellow Redditors and soap enthusiasts! I have an honest review of Southern Luxe Savon soaps. The creator of the soaps is a good friend of mine, and she’s passionate about skincare without the chemicals. Before I continue let me be crystal clear : I’m not being paid to make this review, I just truly believe in the mission and was blown away by the product. All photos provided I took of the items I ordered once received. Now on to the review:
She sells soap bars in full bar form or in guest bar size. Both are equally beautiful in their own ways! So far I have tried the Rose Silk Noir, my girlfriend tried the Spiritual Gangster, and dad tried the Royal Miel! As someone with a highly sensitive sense of smell, fragrances usually are overwhelming or headache inducing. However, the scents in each individual bar were absolutely heavenly. Seriously, they smell amazing and you won’t believe me until you smell one for yourself.
The full size bars are huge and I can imagine it will last a long time. The lather is great especially if you have a loofah or even just a washcloth. I work long 10-12 hour days and get covered in dirt, sunscreen, sweat, you name it. By the end of the day, my skin is usually blackened by it all. I was optimistic but not confident this bar soap could tackle that at all but LET ME TELL YOU! It does wonders!! Not only has my shower time decreased due to not needing to scrub every inch of my body for a prolonged time, my sensitive skin has had no reactions and it feels so soft and clean after each use. For context, my whole life I will randomly get contact dermatitis from different things and most of the time I never know what, and I have to use special laundry detergent and skin soaps just to not get painful rashes daily. I’ve also noticed my skin is way more hydrated than before. I had so much dry skin but honestly it feels balanced since using this product. Not too oily but I’m nowhere near dried out.
I know a lot of folks like me have struggled to find a soap that gets the job done but doesn’t cause any allergic reactions, so this is another reason I felt compelled to make this review. Hopefully I can help someone cut their search short! She also carries specialty bars for facial cleansing, self-breast examination, skin sensitive goal milk bar, as well as shaving cream! There are more “manly” scents and soaps as well for any men in your life looking for something to make their shower and shave experience feel more luxury.

All in all: I give these soaps a 10/10 for scent, a 10/10 for cleansing ability, and an additional 10/10 for being safe for (my) highly sensitive skin. My girlfriend and dad give the soaps a 10/10 on all fronts as well. Please check out her site and feel free to add reviews to this post. Her site has the mission as well as ingredient list and a list of ingredients never used in the soaps. It started because my friend’s mom is currently fighting a hard battle against cancer, and she couldn’t find anything “clean” to wash her in. Thank you for reading and hug your loved ones a lil tighter ❤️

What makes a bar soap feel “good” to you besides just smelling nice?

I randomly fell down a soap rabbit hole after buying a couple bars on a whim, and now I’m realizing I actually have opinions about soap that I didn’t know I had. Some feel creamy, some feel squeaky, some smell amazing in the package and then disappear instantly in the shower.

So now I’m curious what soap people here actually enjoy using and why. Is it mostly about scent for you, or do you care more about lather, how your skin feels after, how long the bar lasts, ingredients, all of that?

Basically I’m trying to figure out what separates an okay bar from one that makes you think “oh this is nice.”

I finally found something that actually ELIMINATES stubborn body odor (instead of just mixing with it). The science behind "Persimmon Soap" actually works.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a game-changer I recently discovered because I know I’m not the only one dealing with this.

For the longest time, I struggled with that stubborn, sticky sweat smell—especially after an 8-hour shift working outdoors or a heavy gym session. You know the one: where you shower with regular body wash, but as soon as you step out, you still smell a faint "stale" scent underneath all the artificial fragrance. It’s even worse as we get older (apparently it’s a real thing called "nonenal" or aging odor that water and regular soap just can't wash off).

I got tired of smelling like a mix of cheap cologne and old sweat, so I went down a rabbit hole and discovered Persimmon Deodorant Soap.

Here’s why it actually worked for me and why the science makes sense:

  • It Neutralizes, Doesn't Mask: Instead of just dumping heavy perfumes on top of body odor, the high concentration of persimmon tannins in this soap actually breaks down the odor molecules at the source. It literally neutralizes the nonenal and sweat odor. Gone forever, not just covered up.
  • The 8-Hour Test: I tested it during my longest, most grueling days outside. Even after 8 hours of heavy sweating, my clothes and underarms didn't have that sour, stale smell at the end of the day.
  • Zero Irritation (Sulfate-Free): I have pretty sensitive skin, so heavy chemical deodorizing soaps usually give me a rash. This one is sulfate-free and natural. It’s so gentle that it’s completely safe for kids, and I even use it to wash my face now.
  • Streamlines the Routine: As someone who hates having a million bottles in the shower, the fact that I can use this one 120g bar for my face and body is a huge win. It saves time and honestly saves money for the whole family.

If you or anyone in your family is struggling with underarm odor, that lingering gym smell, or just wants to feel truly clean without harsh chemicals, I highly recommend looking into persimmon extract soaps. It completely changed my daily routine.

Thoughts on new recipe?

Hey!

I've not made any soap for quite a while now, and I figured I'd start making new ones again because I'm almost all out of the soaps I made like 2 years ago lol

Do you guys have any thoughts on this new recipe? It's the first of the four that I have planned.

If you have any advice or critique, I'm all ears.

Thanks! Happy soapmaking 😄

EDIT: I just noticed that I forgot to note the orange zest I'll be throwing in as well.

Hot Spots - Retail Shampoo

I have a Yorkie with hotspots who’s been to the vet, tried medication, and many shampoos, but nothing works. I want all-natural products to protect her skin from allergens. It's heartbreaking to see her miserable. Recommendations are appreciated, as vet visits are costly and shampoos are ineffective. If there are no all-natural products, as a last resort, I'll try anything. Thanks! :-)

Would you carry this instead of a travel bottle?

I’m working on a product idea and trying to figure out if it solves a real problem before I invest more time and money into it.
The concept is a dry cleansing strip that you use in the shower. Instead of packing a bottle of intimate wash when you’re traveling or going to the gym, you’d carry a small metal tin containing 30 dry strips. Add water in the shower, the strip dissolves into a cleansing lather, then you rinse as you normally would.
It’s not meant to replace showering or wet wipes. The only idea is to make it easier to travel with an intimate wash without carrying a bottle.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions:
● Would this solve a problem for you, or not?
● What’s the first thing that makes you hesitate?
● If you already use an intimate wash, what would make you switch—or why wouldn’t you?
I’m not looking for people to tell me it’s a great idea. If you think it’s unnecessary or flawed, I’d genuinely like to know why. I’d rather learn that now than after making thousands of them.

CF soap bar for laundry and dishes (for travel)

I’m airline crew and I like using bar soaps because they save me worrying about LAG restrictions in airports. I’ve been using Sard bars for treating stains on my white work shirts before washing them in the shower, but I just found out they’re owned by a non-cf parent company.

I’ve found a couple of potential alternatives by Aussie companies (Australian Natural Soap Company and Go For Zero) but would like to see if anyone has other recommendations before I spend $10 on shipping one bar to my hotel.

Purple and green bars!!

Donkey milk bars with my two favorite colors. So fun and easy, I also like adding dried flowers or herbs too. These have lavender and lemongrass and some dried lillies. All made with avocado oil and essential oils. So easy to do and fun to get creative with!

Dial Fresh Cut Bar Soap

Anyone remember these? Probably some of the best bar soap Dial ever came out with. The bars were HUGE (one bar could easily last a year or more) and the smells were amazing. The scents came in fresh cut grass, blossoms, and citrus. I noticed they were discontinued very quickly (probably because Dial realized they were losing money if people only needed to buy one bar a year). I've bought a few old bars from Ebay and they smell just as good now as they did on the shelf.
