I can't figure out how to make this living room work, it has too much furniture. I will be buying a new couch. The furniture I'm keeping: couch for dog (under large window), coffee table, end table, tv.
Originally I was against having the couch in front of the large window since my back would be against it - but I may be able to get past that.
What is the best way to layout this room? Included is the couch I'm looking at buying and some drafts I came up with. The couch, I can choose from different fabric/color options. Being short, I'm having a hard time finding a couch I can comfortably sit on. I looked at sections but couldn't find one that worked for me.
I’m moving into a new house soon and plan on buying a new sofa and I want something that goes with the rug in the first two pics. I’d like to avoid something neutral and tan bc of the colors of the walls and floor. Pic three is the house to see the floor color, I’ll paint the walls a neutral tan/beige and the remaining pics are of couch colors I’ve considered but now doubt when trying to visualize them with the rug. I’d love a bolder emerald or dark teal, but I worry they will clash with the rug.
I’d love to hear what others think!
I just finished my new loft space. I happy with it! Love the gallery wall that includes art created from my photography
Here's the situation. It's my husband's 40th birthday and he hates our couch, as do I. It's not comfortable, and it's not at all easy to clean, so we have these ugly non matching covers that we use as you can see in the photo.
I'm going to get him a new couch, but we now have a toddler and two dogs, so I want one that can be washed. Performance fabrics are good, but there's no replacement for throwing it in the wash. This significantly limits our options, but I like the Pottery Barn York slipcover sofa with chaise, which fits in about the same footprint.
My husband generally likes the color of the blue sofa, he picked it out before he met me (and I'm fine with it!). The coffee table is also something that he likes (and I'm good with also), so we're not ready to change that up now. The rug took a half century to decide on so that's staying, and the tile flooring must also stay.
We'll probably replace the bar stools at some point. The TV is a frame TV so we can change up the art above the fireplace (and yes, I know it's too high).
This couch that I'm leaning towards this Pottery Barn York slipcovered deep sofa in the performance heathered tweed in Indigo, this one:
I've also considered it in slate in Performance Casual Chenille, this one:
Alt in slate and different fabric
Here's my very basic mood board
My questions are:

Hello everyone! I had deleted a post of my living room I posted a few months ago when I first moved in but wanted to post here the before the after (I added some more color you could say but feel like my overall base is still too brown). What do we think?
I’m very much influenced by this user on instagram and love her overall aesthetic which is what I’ve been trying to achieve but feel like I’m still missing quite a few things to get this type of look. I’ve added the user name in the comments**
Is there anything yall can suggest I change/remove/add? I’ve been looking at the same thing for over a month now so I feel like my eyes have gotten used to it so I’d love to get yalls opinions.
First/second pic is before and the third/fourth are after
This is in my living room, I’m looking for a color that would contrast with the couch/carpet which are both beige, and still go with the surrounding wall color (SW Alpaca but it pulls more purple in my room as the window is west facing). That wall leads down the stairs into the basement and I want to do that whole wall one color but not as dark as the navy currently is because it would make the stairway extra spooky… advice appreciated!
Right now my bedroom is a little too beige and boring. Well I was not going to just jump in head first with no prior design experience, so before adding anything, I did a bit of AI mock up.I chose some furniture and decorative objects I liked, from shops like IKEA, Zara Home and Target and simulated with AI how these items would look in the room. I envisioned a warmer vintage-style bedroom, but first, I need to see if this combo is good enough as-is.Should I stay in this style, or modify it a bit until purchasing any products?
Hi Guys,
I wrote here a couple months back, just sharing the updates to the lounge.
I will be removing the TV from the wall, looking for ideas inspo on any other additions / what kind of unit & then artwork ?
Thanks all x
What can I put between the door and the toilet?
ChatGPT suggested putting a nightstand with a plant next to my bed, but I’m worried I’ll accidentally knock the plant over. I also prefer not to drill into the walls.
I already have a vanity next to the other side of the bed that kind of works as a nightstand, so I’m not sure if adding an actual nightstand (and maybe a plant stand) would make the space feel too crowded. A nightstand would be nice for bedside essentials, though. The width highlighted in pink is 33 inches wide.
What would you recommend? Pic is highly appreciated.
I have this empty space above my mantle — I’m guessing it was built in 90s for those bigger TVs that required the space to go back. I am renting so I can’t full-on renovate this, but I can work with drywall, drill stuff in, etc. I certainly cannot remove the “frame”.
I think there is definitely some clever ideas on how to do this - I just don’t have any at the moment.
Hey guys I just switched rooms with one of my siblings and I am really struggling to pick a room colour.
She had painted it this odd yellow colour which I hate so I am trying to pick something new.
The issue is this room doesn’t get much natural lighting sine the window is NE facing ( I live in London) and on the backside of an apartment complex. To make the room brighter I got a white light bulb.
AI told me to avoid cool colours for that reason but I still have no clue what to get.
I was considering an accent wall but again not sure what the colours should be.
My floor is a brownish wood colour well light brown.
My furniture is dark oak.
It can be any colour not just the 3 I put in the walls haha
PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE AMAZING
Want it to feel put together and adult but really struggle due to the size/vastness of it. Should we put in shelves or what? That’s a 75 inch tv to give scale. There’s kind of a half back wall as well :( Couch and coffee table came with the house
Hey Reddit gang, I need some help. We are having our main bedroom renovated (1948 Cape cod). We have removed a useless and weird closet with a weird crawl space so the space feels more open. We want to use this little nook area as a sitting space, we don’t need storage there because we added a huge walk in closet adjacent to this bedroom.
Our dilemma is with the flooring… because it’s natural hardwood it is nearly impossible to perfectly match without stripping, sanding and restraining… but this room leads into the hallway, so it just seems to create a bigger problem… I was thinking about doing something fun like a tile and creative transition… we plan to stay in this house forever and tend to decorate tastefully but not for the masses. (I’ll include a few other photos of our house so you get the general vibe)…
Option 1: rip out current bedroom flooring and use a flush and tasteful transition strip between hall and bedroom. (Still more costly than tile option)
Option 2: strip and refinish, adding transition strip somehow between hall and bedroom (labor intensive/ most expensive and still wouldn’t match the hall perfectly)
Option 3: creative tile corner area to differentiate the sitting nook, fun transition to hardwood…
Right now I’m leaning toward option 3, but I don’t want to make a grave mistake that haunts me as lay in bed each night just feet from the tile / hardwood transition..
Help! What would you do?
I’ve included a photo of the current state and a few AI generated images as well.
