Terrible neighbors

My neighbor is a horrible person. He spends all day screaming (not yelling but legitimately shrieking like a toddler throwing a tantrum) at his wife constantly. He threatens her, he hits his dogs, and just in general he’s a nightmare. Cops have been called multiple times but they can’t do much but tell him to quiet down which only lasts a day at most. It’s gotten so bad my kids are afraid to play in the yard because it’s so upsetting and scary for them. He does not care when we have asked him to stop. He has boys that are all great and his wife is very kind. What else is there to do to get him to shut his bitch ass up?! His shrieking tantrums are something you’d see on a comedy sketch they are that over the top and about the most bizarre things. Last weekend it was because his wife shifted a planter in the backyard. I’ve never met a man more adamant to declare his impotence to an entire neighborhood.

Building nightmare in Eastern Washington (Benton County). City planners won't grant permit due to shrub steppe

We purchased a 20 acres lot in Richland, Washington Nov 25 hoping to build on 5 acres of it. Lot is surrounding by vineyards owned by State of Washington. We submitted for our permit last December and city developers saw one tree on the property and said they wanted us to hire a wildlife biologist to see if the endangered  ferruginous hawk lives there.

$10.5K later, our wildlife biologist met with City's biologist on site and our biologist didn't find any signs of  ferruginous hawks. Their biologist started to zero in on the shrub steppe and said we had to get our biologist to recommend how much damage our home will destroy and to determine the ratio of replacement.

After four months of going back and forth, our biologist recommended the replacement ratio for the shrub stepped of 1:1 meaning and only one ace of the five our home sits on will need to be replaced. He said the rest of the property is composed of mostly cheek grass and not quality shrub steppe.

Richland's city planner disagrees and wants a 5:1 ratio for the shrub steppe and a 3:1 replacement ratio for the  ferruginous hawk AND they want us to give or donate about 10 acres of our property to them for conservation purposes.

I am just trying to build a home for my family and I feel completely taken advantage of. I have no rights as a landowner and they can just do whatever they want and throw out arbitrary ratios because they feel like it?

This feels so wrong on so many levels. Why put me through all the work of paying $10.5K to get a biologist's recommendations if they are not willing to follow it?

In addition, they have tagged my lot as a critical area for shrub steppe and I can't even sell if I wanted to.

I saw that there's a WA house bill 2316 being pushed through the legislature right now for this exact problem of abuse and forcing residents who are trying to build to jump through all kinds of torture and not grant them their permits in the end. However, I don't have time to wait for the bill to be approved in 2 years. I just need my permit.

I don't know what to do as I am so discouraged and disappointed.

Any help would be great if anyone knows what I can do.

Clover Mites near windows/Pest Control

Does anyone else have issues with those little red clover mites around their windows in spring/summer? I’ve had professional (local) pest companies come by and spray and have also sprayed the interior/exterior of the windows with no luck. These mites seem to come back every year.

I’m almost considering ripping out all the grass within 5 feet of the grass around the windows where these mites come up.

“Fans flock to save Richland’s beloved Emerald of Siam from possible closure” - Article title from TCH

The restaurant needs to replace a vent hood, and if they can’t they may have to close. This place is just down the road from us, so whenever we’re craving Thai food, Emeralds is where we go. I’d hate to see them have to shut down.

They have a GoFundMe to help raise funds. The link is in the article, not posting here so I don’t break the rules.

From the TriCitiesWA community on Reddit: Looking for our lost cat, Oscar: Update

Update 5-19-2026: He’s been found! He didn’t come to us after we’ve been calling out around the neighborhood for days, but my brother did one more call out check for him at 11am this Tuesday and finally Oscar showed up! He came out from a neighbors yard across the street somehow. Seemed pretty apprehensive and puffed up at first, until he fully noticed my brother more, then he ran hopped towards him. He was very dehydrated, but was purring pretty loudly once he came back inside the house.

Snakes!

I read a post in another sub about walking your yard before mowing to scare off any critters and I came across this big fellow today. Bullsnake, so nonvenomous and helpful for keeping rodent numbers down. Be careful out there folks.

Emerald of Siam raising money for repairs.

After a failure in their kitchen the city will not allow them to fix their hood without a total of 100,000 dollars in electrical, safety and structural modifications. This is an insane cost that threatens one of the most historical and supportive music venues in town. If you have ever seen or played a show at this venue please consider donating to keep the doors open!

Vets

Hey everybody! I have two cats that were adopted from a rescue and have shots and are fixed, but we have another cat and a small dog that needs both shots and fixed, both female. What are some cheap vets to get this taken care of? I usually go to horse heaven hills for emergency visits, but I feel like there has to be somewhere cheaper for spays and shots. Thank you in advance! Attached picture is all of our babies ❤️

Best vet options in Richland?

Been in Tri-cities since October, looking for vet options for my 2 dogs (3 year old GS/PB/etc mix, 5 year old mini pinscher mix).

I took one to the VCA Animal Medical center, but to be completely honest my experience with one of the vet techs has me really hesitant to return.

Is Richland Animal Hospital any good? Website seems to show a wide range of medical services and has a pharmacy on site (that like CVS where I can walk up to a window to get a refill, or is it basically just regular medication dispensary by appt like at other vets?)

I'm especially trying to figure out something soon since the other needs to get her annual checkup and I want to have a solid vet established before heading into the hot months between the heat and any wildfire smoke issues.

Looking for our lost cat, Oscar

He was last seen on our ring camera in front of our house around 9am on Sunday the 17th. Located near or around Pasco high school/Captain Gray elementary and the neighborhoods nearby. He’s very friendly towards people. He’s got a very short and crooked tail and should be wearing a collar with his name and our contact info on it.

He’s microchipped, but unfortunately the address and owner info was never updated (Oscar used to be my brother’s cat, but he gave him to our mom instead).

I posted about him on the Ring neighborhood community and made a report to Tri-Cities animal services. Please let me know if you’ve seen him anywhere. We’d really appreciate any info about him :[

Lost Dog!

LOST DOG: Found at the Maverik in Richland on Keene and Duportail. Very friendly and sweet but no identification on her except a pink collar. Reach out to me here or call the gas station directly if you recognize her!

Update: She has not been chipped so we are really hoping someone recognizes her.

Night Life for those under 21?

I turned 18 within the last year, and I want to find something to go do and make friends. Currently a CBC student, and work makes it nearly impossible to attend any clubs that don’t fall on a Thursday or Friday.

Is there any known nightlife for those under 21, especially as someone who wants to meet new people?
