Curbs on Queensgate/Bermuda?

Hey all. Recently there was construction on Bermuda/Queensgate where these curbs with reflectors were added on the paint of the bike lane. They are intermittent, not continuous. Is this just to keep cars away from the shoulder, or to keep people from passing on this road? Why were these added? Most of the reflectors have dents in them or have been completely knocked off by cars hitting them. It seems more like a hazard than something helpful.

Any insight is appreciated.

How are yall getting credits??

Hey all, I work at Macys and am struggling to get credits. It’s so slow where I work and I feel like I’m running out of people to ask about credits. I was talked to about my ratio but I don’t even know what to do about it. Am I actually going to get fired over it??

Any advice is appreciated!

How do I get comfortable eating in front of people?

Hey all

I was told by my Psych that I have something called EDNOS(Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified), as I have a lot of criteria of one but am missing the marks on some.

Something I’ve noticed is that I am terrified to eat in front of people. I hung out at a friend’s house the other day and started shaking when his parents brought me a plate of food. I get incredibly anxious when trying to eat in front of people, mainly ones I don’t know. I will purposely avoid food if other people are present even if it means forgoing meals.

Does anyone else struggle with this? Any advice on how to tackle it?

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Is this too crowded?

Hey all! This is a piece I did a while back and I can’t help but feel like it’s super cramped. Should I center the labels and have the butterflies pushed to the edge? With the actual frame on it looks cramped at well, I’m not super sure what to do to aid the composition. I could also get an entirely new frame. Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Advice appreciated, thank you!

Do I need to gut Sphaeropoeus lugubris(Pill Millipedes)?

Hey all!

I have been pinning insects for a while and I have never had a specimen that’s required hollowing/stuffing. I recently was gifted two Sphaeropoeus lugubris specimens(giant pill millipedes), and I wasn’t sure if I needed to gut them, as most cases I’ve seen where that is necessary has been with large bodied beetles or moths. Will they grease if I don’t do so?

If I do need to hollow them out, how would I go about doing so safely without ruining the specimen?

Any advice is appreciated, thank you!!

Deep Shadow Boxes

Hey all!

Do you all have any advice on where to get good shadowboxes? I think I’ve found a good one and then they aren’t deep enough, making me clip my pins with pliers to shorten them. Either I need deeper shadow boxes or shorter pins, or do you guys have different ways of displaying insects in frames that involves removing the body pin? I tend to lean towards keeping them pinned since I like being able to move them around and don’t like the idea of permanently glueing them to the fabric.

Does anyone else run into this issue? Advice appreciated!

Advice on my pinning process?

Hey all! I’ve been pinning insects for about a 2 years now, and I run into the same issue every time. I use so much parchment paper. I feel like it’s overkill, or it’s going to snuff off scales on the wings. How do you all keep the wings so nicely pinned without using too much parchment paper to hold them down? Do I need to leave it in the relaxer longer so it doesn’t need as much pressure to hold the wings down? Do certain insects have wings that simply don’t bend as much as others?

I’ve attached a photo of a Papilio Ulysses that I pinned today, again it just feels like so much parchment paper.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Pinned my first Swallowtail!

I was given this fella a few months ago and finally got around to pinning it(the left antenna was already missing when I got it :(

I unfortunately broke off two of the wings and almost knocked off another while trying to redo the body pin, but against all odds, Elmer’s glue, a toothpick, and a dream left it looking great! I am shocked that it is still in such good condition, but overjoyed nonetheless!

Any advice on improving would be greatly appreciated! The body is a tad crooked, so tips on how to fix that would be great!

I just thought I’d share this victory, and to give any people out there with broken specimens some hope that it can indeed be fixed!
