Flame Trap and Oil Leaks

Have had an intermittent leak on my 740 and decided to swap out the flame trap. Took it on a trip up a mountain and later in the lot I notice a sizable puddle under the front of the engine with oil dripping. Get it home, next day swap the old flame trap back in. Noticed that they had different patterns, the old one looked like a colander with evenly spaced circular holes while the new one looked like scrunched up scrap metal with seemingly smaller sized spaces between. It's been a couple days and Leak have calmed from that mountain trip but there's still a bit coming from a couple random spots that got me concerned. Any advice on what to do next?

3rd time lucky?

Hi all,

After parting with first a 740, now a 940.. we've ended up with an 850.

What are common to go on these / common problems?

There are few things we are aware of that needs replacing;

- Radiator (minor coolant leak)

- Washer fluid bottle

- Exhaust & cat (rusty n rattly)

- Top engine bushing (common to go)

- Rear tyre (slow leak)

We are minorly... well.. concerned about blue smoke.

It only comes when acceleration (or revving), and smoke is also coming out of the dipstick tube when removed. - I've sort of looked into this, would it most likely be a blocked PCV? It also smells quite rich.

Annoyingly the battery has died, so having to order another.

Also a question about the radio/head.. on low battery that was able to close window (7v), would that also cause the radio not to turn on with the power button? We PRAY it works but only ever managed to try today when it was flat.

Thanks for any tips, tricks or advice in advance!

Time to crack open her twin SUs!

Keep in mind. She’s been sitting since 04 and was put away wet with fuel still in her. What will I find when I pop open those fuel bowls? The suspense is killing me. Stay tuned!

Does this sound good to you guys?

I’m getting this feeling that there’s a new (bad) sound related to the alternator/alternator belt after replacing it but I may well just be freaking out. I’d just like someone else’s input/wisdom.

I did give it a good wiggle, no play in the rubber mounting bushes and the pulley bearing was smooth and had no play.

A little after work elbow grease

Thought I’d relax after work by doing a little clean up on the front bumper. Nothing more that just tried and true Nevr-Dull wadding polish and good ol’ elbow grease. Sixty year old Swedish chrome cleans up really nice

M90 reverse switch connector

Im swapping my volvo 240 with a T5 engine and m90 gearbox. Does anyone know what connector fits on the reverse light switch? The car had an auto before, that had the switch on the gearlever. Thanks!

Idle pleasures

Long train. Enough time for a friend to snap a pic of the ol’ 122. Been two years with this car and I am looking forward to many more happy years.

Alternator bolt recommendeds

Hi all, (940 2.3 LPT Classic)

Can anyone in the UK recommend places to get bolts actually MADE for the alternator? Or just a general place to buy them online (even overseas) that don't cost the earth.

After it snapped a couple months back, we have just been using ones from b&q as a makeshift, but obviously they aren't properly made for what it's trying to do....

Can't tell you how many we've been through lol, but nearly out of what we bought.

Thanks in advance!

Coolant leaking.. where?

Hi all,

Got a coolant leaking issue with a 940 2.3 LPT Classic.

Originally thought it was pissing out the turbo, turns out it's coming from the head area, unsure of where (haven't ripped it apart yet). Also drips down from the possible top core plug? to the bottom one as pictured. (And ends up all over the manifold) Has anyone else had this issue?

Got it towed home yesterday from work as it completely emptied itself.

I would post a video of it but unable to, sorry these pictures are crap.

Praying it's not a head gasket, no coolant in oil (as of yet!!).

Any ideas, tips or tricks would be extremely helpful.

I’m probably being stupid by thinking it might be but is this okay to drive on for 2 more days till the new one arrives? (alternator belt) it’s only driving the alternator, power steering and water pump are separate.

I’m also wandering if it does snap then it risks getting tangled and possibly damaging one of the other belts?

*edit
I just remembered that I have a spare belt which I save from when I replaced it last, it’s a cracking a bit but definitely better than having a few teeth missing and a fraying belt, I shall replace it this evening

Worth rebuilding?

Pulled a ‘93 530 head from a junkyard Volvo 240. Looks clean under the valve cover but the intake valves are coated in a white deposit. Any idea what happened to land the car in the junkyard? Will I need new valves or would cleaning be okay? This will be my first head rebuild so be gentle.

Lift Kit in Germany

I want to raise my car, but I live in Germany, what are my options? I also want to put on bigger tires. Which lift kit can you recommend? And is there a „TÜV-Prüfer“ out there who wants to „eintragen“ it.
Thanks in advance

Can anyone confirm if taillights on a '90 (sedan) 740 can be retro fitted to a '88 (sedan) 740?

If not, that's okay. I'm looking at replacement options here (that are supported). Thank you in advance for reading.
