Chalky's career change after leaving Waterloo Road

Watching Waterloo Road and Smoggie Queens back to back hits differently, especially when you're just past the bit where Chalky has left.

Do kids like Sedden, Bolton, or Jess ring true to younger audiences today the same way they did back then to kids or has youth culture changed that much?

Curious.

I was in year 9 / 10 when Waterloo Road started broadcasting. And i felt that kids like Lewis, Bolton, Chlo, Jess, were all kids that, if I changed schools, would be the kind of kids I’d be a student along side. It felt like the characters were reflecting real life.

I’ve tried to get into the revival now 3 times. Made it as far as season 2 of the reboot and the kids don’t feel real to me. And I don’t know if that’s just a sign of the times changing or how they’re written. I don’t have any kids myself so, unless I turn into a creep, I’m not going to linger around schools to find out 😂

Just curious, anyone in or around school life now do Kelly-Jo, Danny, Izzy, or whoever feel like kids that attend school today? And do kids like Lewis, Bolton, etc still exist or have they been culturally erased?

Or is it because the school isn’t struggling like it was in season one of the original and poverty, gangs, music, style, and whatnot looks different today?

Da onez dat talk like dis, init blud, brrrrap.

I feel like Channing Tatum in 21 jump street watching the show these days.

What did Kim even see in Max?

I know Kim is not well liked, but I can't understand what she even saw in Max to begin with? She was shown as being quite cautious in relationships (given how long it took her to be with Andrew and how she gave him a hard time about being a posh private school boy at first). Her just jumping straight into something with someone she barely knew felt kind of OOC - like they needed a member of staff to disagree with Rachel/side with Max and she was the only one available.

I wish she'd just left with Andrew at the end of s4. At least then she would've left on a more positive note (even if the Grace stuff would've clouded things somewhat).

Season 20 renewal?

It's been a year since our last waterloo road renewal and I'm just wondering are we expecting a season 20 and 21 renewal soon or are we waiting until season 18 is over or something

Favourite one-liners?

I'm rewatching s6 and just got to the part where Chesca tells the other teachers about the affair with Jonah. I love when Grantly turns to Ruby and says 'Take notes. Good research for your next novel 😉' whilst everyone else has a proper serious reaction. 😂

Waterloo Road deaths ranked by how sad they made me feel (Spoilers obviously)

On a semi-related note, I kind of wish we got to see a little bit more of Mr MacDonald and his incredibly close bond with his daughter. The writers didn't even give him a first name, yet I still felt sad when he died (mainly because he sounded like a nice guy, and also because I felt incredibly bad for Vicki).

I wish Lorna had a better exit

I know she's not the most likeable of characters, but I can't help but think how depressing her entire arc on the show is: Her partner leaves her for her best friend, she decides to have an abortion because he doesn't want the child at that point, they divorce and she attempts suicide, she tries to move on w/ Andrew who is hung up on Kim. Then she gets diagnosed with MS and has to deal with everyone feeling sorry for her, she's accidentally responsible for Izzy losing her baby and then decides to commit suicide due to fear of what might happen in the future.

It really feels like she doesn't get a moment of happiness and ends up just feeling like a plot device in Tom + Izzy's stories to keep them apart or put them back together.

Given what happened to both Tom and Izzy eventually anyway, I kind of wish Lorna had just accepted her diagnosis and used it as the push to finally travel Australia. She could've even taken up a teaching position out there and maybe found someone new. Maybe she still would've found it too much at some point, I don't know, but at least she would've got to do something she's always wanted first.
