Under 21 car rentals in the greater area?

I have the chance to go on a free Hersheypark with my girlfriend, but I don’t want to put 300 miles on my car, so I’m wondering if there’s chance that I could rent a car as a 19 year old in the area? From Winchester to Martinsburg to dc to whatever

2+2+1 Cooperative (Laurel Ridge and Shenandoah Univ)

Parent here, looking into the 2+2+1 pathway (Laurel Ridge associate's, then Shenandoah for the bachelor's and MBA) and hoping to hear from someone who's actually gone through it rather than just the program page.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

  • How smoothly did your Laurel Ridge credits actually transfer in?
  • Did the timeline really work out to 5 years total, or did it run longer?
  • Any surprises with the MBA portion specifically?

Union men had some strong opinions about Winchester Medical College

TIL that, during the American Civil War, a Virginian medical college contained an anatomical exhibit that derided abolitionists; the body in fact belonged to one John Brown's sons. Upon this discovery, Union soldiers retaliated by burning down the institution.

Good Lumber

I'm going to need a few 2x12x12' for stair stringers. They need to be straight and no many knots. The typical Lowes and HD stuff aren't very good. There are a few other lumber yards around the air port but I've never bought there. Any recommendations for better that box store lumber?

Auditions for ENDGAME

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Transports of Joy Announces Auditions for Beckett's Endgame

New Harrisonburg theater company seeks two actors for its debut production, staged with
Eastern Mennonite University this October
HARRISONBURG, V A — August 16, 2026 — Transports of Joy, a new Harrisonburg-based
theater company, will hold auditions on August 26 and 28 at Eastern Mennonite University for
two roles in Samuel Beckett's Endgame, opening October 22 at EMU’s MainStage Theater. The
production runs October 22–24.
The company is casting the roles of Nagg and Nell — Hamm's legless, disintegrating parents,
who spend the play confined to a pair of ashbins. Tom King has been cast as Hamm and Jay Zehr
as Clov; Transports of Joy is now seeking actors to complete the ensemble. Those interested in
auditioning for Nagg or Nell can contact Auditions@transportsofjoy.com for sides and
scheduling.

About the roles
Actors should be able to suggest age and physical frailty through voice and face alone. The
company is looking for a strong sense of comic timing paired with genuine emotional depth.

About the Play
Endgame imagines what might be the last living beings on earth, sheltering together at the end of
everything and coping through routine and storytelling. Its characters are also performers playing
out their tensions before a live audience — an acknowledgment that theater itself is a kind of
shelter, a communion between stage and audience facing discomfort together. The play can seem
bleak, but it holds unexpected humor and a tender reckoning with what makes life meaningful
when meaning itself feels precarious.

About Transports of Joy
Transports of Joy was founded by Courtney King and Luis Lojo, who split their time between
Harrisonburg and the New York City area. King was born and raised in Harrisonburg. She has an
MFA in Theater from Columbia University. Lojo previously ran his own production company in
Mexico City and is currently the Head of Audio and Video at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center.
Endgame is the company's first production.

Verizon home internet

Anyone use them on the Berryville side of Winchester? Is their service good? They've installed lines on our street along with APB doing the same (from what I can tell.) Looking for some comparisons. Currently using a WISP.

Shooting buddies?

Hey folks!

I'm into gun stuff; I'm wondering if there's other people around Winchester who would want to meet up, shoot guns, and nerd out about gun stuff? I'm a member at some ranges around the area, so it wouldn't cost much besides ammo, kind of a BYOB situation. I'm 38m, married, and super don't want to talk about the government or jerk off anyone on a hiking trail.

DM me if you're down!

Air Quality Winchester

Does anyone know where I can find air quality data for Winchester specifically? When I go to look up air quality for Winchester, VA it shows the censor it is pulling from north of Stephenson, which would not be the true Winchester area.
I am going down a rabbit hole a bit on air quality since I moved here and for the last three years have smelled a chemical smell for most of a full day around 4-5 times a month in our neighborhood. I didn’t realize how many factories Winchester had in and around it- Kingsmill, Rubbermaid, Shockey, Continental, etc. Not sure the extent of what is done at each of these and the emissions they create, but are now more curious.

Do you think these pose a concern to our air quality for those in Winchester or know where I can get more information? I couldn’t find much with a google search.

Anybody know any food banks that will take fresh produce from a home garden?

I have an overabundance of tomatoes this year. I'm trying to give them away but it is very difficult to get anyone at any of the food banks on the phone. Unfortunately don't have the time to drive all over town.

Recommendation for new Garage Door

Looking for recommendations for a reputable company on getting a new garage door.
Doesn’t seem to be many options, anyone had their garage door replaced and are happy with the company/service and product?
Or companies to stay away from?

Is there such thing as a reliable solar company?

My parents had solar installed years ago by a company that promptly went out of business and stopped servicing their panels, the panels have never worked right. They’ve tried to find a company to work with for service for years and haven’t had any luck getting someone to even return a call, much less answer one. Now the panels aren’t working at all. So they’re getting $400 electric bills and are still making payments on the solar. It’s ridiculous. There are so many people around here with solar, there MUST be a reputable/trustworthy company to work with?
