Tint installer used higher percent film than requested?

Just got my car tinted yesterday and asked for 35% pinnacle on front two windows. After I paid I was given warranty card which read pinnacle 40% applied. I asked about it and was told higher was necessary to achieve true 35% darkness due to the existing stock tint on my windows. Just curious if this is standard practice.

Which 70% or 80% tint is clearest but blocks most heat for front windshield?

Which 70% or 80% tint is clearest but blocks most heat for front windshield? Or is there a totally clear film that can actually block some heat?

I only want it for heat rejection but also don’t want to get pulled over, or fail the annual inspection

Thanks!

Tint % recommended for my daily

Got a 2013 Toyota Venza with the factory 20% privacy glass on the rear/backs. I want to tint the front windows and I’m leaning toward 20% on the sides, but I can’t decide between 20% or 35% on the windshield.

I have another car with 5% sides and a 35% windshield, and I like how that looks/feels but want 20% for it. I’m thinking 20% all around on the Venza might be perfect, but I also drive it out of state and don’t want to constantly worry about getting pulled over for tint.

For anyone with a Venza or a similar setup: would you go 20% sides + 20% windshield, or 20% sides + 35% windshield? How is the visibility at night with either setup?

Do some shops not install darker than 70% tint on windshield?

I'm in Virginia. Just finished taking my Tesla to a reputable shop (same place I got my partial PPF done). I clearly stated I wanted 50% Xpel Black in our text messages and nothing was said. Then I get it back and it's only 70%. The guy gave me the whole explanation about how medical papers could be needed for inspection at 70%, but 50% even with medical papers won't pass technically. Fine, understood. But why didn't they give me 50% like I asked?

Should I try to get them to give me a partial refund at least?

Edit: I will expose the shop name if I'm unable to get in contact or resolve this properly by tomorrow afternoon.

Edit: okay thanks for educating me on these things. Didn't know the tint was mainly for driving and keeping cool. Appreciate you guys thank you

Well worth it! 3M ceramic

After 5 years, finally had tinting done. Kept it legal on front 30%(Florida), and 70% windshield for the IR reduction; also had the sunroof 15% + rears 30% done (had factory darkening).

Well worth it, makes the car so much more enjoyable. Not to mention, quick cool off for the toddler car seat in the back.

Your experience with Johnson ceramic tint

Hello everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I got myself a new family car and have been wanting to add some tint to it. I started with wanting to do 3M as my wife's civic looked really nice, as I began going deeper into the rabbit hole I learned about ceramic tint. Then I began reading up on the brands and comparing spec sheets. From what I can see Johnson is very close to 3Ms ceramic in heat reduction. Has anybody had johnson film installed? If so how did you like it?

Is this reasonable for a windshield and two front windows?

Tennessee quote for tint on the front two windows and windshield. Seems like a lot but I haven’t had windows tinted in over 15 years and this seems like a quality film. I received quotes for the windshield around 170-200 but the 178 for two side windows seems high.

Tinted vs no tint… Model 3

Interesting to see the difference between the factory tint on a friend’s Model 3 versus mine. Definitely worth it not even considering UV or IR rejection

Are these gaps and uneven cuts acceptable?

I had a tint job done on my car a few days ago, front windows and front windshield. The installer said to leave it in the sun for a few days and so I did.

After a few days, I inspected the work and noticed gaps between the edge of the window and the film. The gaps are uneven; one side has more as seen in the photo, and a few cm to the right it has no gap.

In addition, I noticed that the cut at the edge of the windshield is also a bit jagged.

The guy said that this is normal, and they leave a gap so the film wouldn’t get stuck to the edge of the door.

Is this normal? This place has high rated reviews so I’m wondering if it’s just me.

Tint that is not bluish

Looking for tints that do not have that bluish color. I see that Xpel XR Black does not. But it is only available 35% or darker. Are there any other ceramic tints that are not bluish that provide greater VLT?

2026 Ram 1500 Tinting

Goal is to reduce cabin heat as much as possible, as much privacy without driving blind at night. Looking at 3M Crystalline currently but open to other brands (trying to avoid any odd hues, strictly black).

I’m thinking windshield CR BLK 50, front side windows CR BLK 15, back side windows and rear window CR BLK 60, panoramic sunroof CR 90 for heat reduction only.

Few questions. Will I have regrets I didn’t go darker on windshield? More concerned I’d regret it if I can’t see out the windshield driving at night, side windows can always go down. Two, is it safe to tint the sunroof, I’ve read that it can cause a heat effect that shatters your sunroof under summer heat? Also, what would you quote on a job like this? First quote was $1,575. Lastly, would you take the crystalline over others or is it really that much better for heat reduction?
