Are there any pubs/cafes right on the beach?

I’ve got two boys who love playing on the beach so I was wondering if there was somewhere I could go sit and have a drink while they play in the sand. We used to have Sheldrakes but believe it’s closed down now. I can’t think of anywhere else.

Best Wirral Countryside pub

Looking to go out for a couple of quiet pints in the sun. Probably going to the Harp in Neston now but for future choices, what is your favourite Wirral countryside pub?

We are Wirral worth the price?

Hey,

My partner and I are were considering checking out the “We are Wirral” festival in Birkenhead park. But £40 entry seems a bit much.

We were wondering what were the experiences of anyone who went to the event last year?

I assume the £40 is just an entry fee, and drinks and food will be paid to the specific venders, fair. But what about the activities? Rides? Etc? £40 to enter the park then extra fees per ride or event?

Was it enjoyable? Would you recommend it?

Wirral Samba Drummers - lost drums :(

Hi everyone, this is a bit of a strange one but I am really hoping that someone might be able to help.

At about 18:30 today we lost two drums out of our van around the Liscard area - the route was driving along Liscard Rd near Eaton Ave to Mill Lane, then on to St Albans Rd, then stopped in the car park on St Albans Rd.

They are about 18" in diameter and will look like this photo with the band's logo. They are costly and difficult to replace and we are due to play New Brighton Festival and various other events over the summer.

If anybody sees them, hears of them or someone tries to flog you a random drum in a pub (!), please could you let us know? Thank you if you've read this.

Liverpool - The impression that I get.

Just wanted to share my latest piece. It’s an abstract/impressionist look at the waterfront, focused entirely on the atmosphere and the connection between the city and the river.
The water is chaotic, the sky is heavy, but the city just stands tall through it all. It’s that exact grit and energy that makes Liverpool home. Hope it resonates with some of you!

Tallulahs New Brighton

Gutted to hear this place is closing down. Was a real gem on Victoria Road. Reading their instagram post there was clearly some beef with the land lord. The Hello New Brighton account have left some mean spirited comments underneath so something clearly going on. Tallulahs was something genuinely different round there and NB is poorer for its loss. Really hope they set up somewhere else with a decent land lord.

Remember, CAT on family days out and kids' meals drops to 5% from today until 1 Sept

Sharing this because I saw it a while ago and totally forgot about it until now.

From today (25th of June) until 1st of September, the government's "Great British Summer Savings" thing cuts VAT on a load of family stuff from 20% down to 5%. Businesses are meant to pass the saving on, so in most cases you don't have to do anything, the price is just lower at the till.

This includes:

- Kids' meals (anything off a children's menu)

- Children's and family tickets for cinema, theatre and concerts

- Admission for everyone, adults too, to places like theme parks, soft play, adventure parks, zoos, museums and wildlife parks

Watch out for what's not included:

- Car parking

- Memberships and annual passes, so existing National Trust/Merlin memberships don't change

- Season tickets, unless they cost the same as a single entry

- Sports facilities (lots of those are already VAT-free anyway)

Most places will just charge less automatically, nothing to do, but a few want a code at booking, so check the attraction's own page before you pay. If you've already booked something eligible for a date in this window, some places (National Trust being one) are refunding the difference. Worth a quick look at your confirmation email.

If you're planning anything big this summer, might be worth timing it for the window. We're eyeing up a soft play day and probably a cinema trip while the kids' tickets are cheaper.

One thing worth knowing: if a place isn't passing the saving on, that's worth querying with them, because the whole point is it reaches families rather than just disappearing into prices.
