I’m head coach of the Gotham FC women’s soccer team — why I took paternity leave
(I am not Juan lol, that’s just the title of the article)
Lovely moments in Myanmar. The popularity of women's soccer there is rising and this is a clip of fans waiting outside of the stadium for a chance to get selfies and autographs from players of Ayeyawady FC. They recently beat Singaporean champions Jurong 4-0 in AFC Champions League qualifier.

"These images [are of] the arrival of the Cameroon National Team to [their] country, after winning the African Cup of Women’s Nations for the first time in its history.
They were greeted as legends in Yaoundé." - From Mundo Pelota on 'X'
Liga F has reached a broadcasting deal: "Liga F to remain available on DAZN and RTVE | The British streaming platform has once again secured the rights to the top tier of women's football. There is satisfaction regarding the achievement of a hybrid model that boosts visibility."
From AS:
"The broadcasting rights have been awarded. Broadcasters have been selected for Liga F Moeve for the next three seasons in the domestic market. DAZN—which held the audiovisual rights for the top-tier women's league during its first four seasons—will be the platform responsible for broadcasting the full round of matches on a pay-per-view basis, while RTVE and TV3 will broadcast half of the matches on free-to-air television. This mixed model reflects the satisfaction of the league association and the clubs regarding the commitment to and confidence in the product's visibility...
The wait has been long, but the uncertainty is over. On Wednesday, the bids submitted by broadcasters to the Higher Sports Council (CSD) were opened, and following a meeting of the Audiovisual Rights Oversight Body, the television tender for the next three seasons was finally awarded.
DAZN, RTVE, and TV3 have secured the audiovisual rights for the top women's football competition, which officially launched as a professional league in 2022.
Under this arrangement, the British platform DAZN acquires "Lot 1." This entails broadcasting eight matches per round live and exclusively on a pay-per-view basis, although the winner of "Lot 2" may also broadcast four of these matches on free-to-air television.
This latter point is crucial, as Liga F Moeve and its member clubs consider prioritizing visibility essential for the league's growth. The mixed model—featuring a combination of free-to-air and pay-per-view matches, as implemented since January of the previous campaign—has yielded strong audience figures: the 2025–26 season reached a cumulative total of 7.5 million viewers, representing an 11.2% increase over the previous season.
Meanwhile, "Lot 2" has been awarded to RTVE and TV3, two public broadcasters that are continuing their commitment to women's football. This package includes four matches per matchday for exclusive, live, free-to-air broadcasting, without prejudice to the fact that the winner of Lot 1 may also exploit these matches via a closed (pay-TV) model.
Finally, Lots A and B for international markets have not been awarded despite the bids received; instead, Liga F itself will handle broadcasting and commercialization on a country-by-country basis, thereby potentially securing higher revenue.
In 2022, DAZN acquired Liga F's audiovisual rights for five seasons for €35 million. However, the league organization and its clubs came to value the increased visibility the competition gained through free-to-air matches—as seen since January of the previous season—and sought a mixed model to foster this. Thus, although the revenue figure is lower in the short term, the commitment to raising the profile of the teams and their key figures is being fulfilled."
There's a BIG 2 in WSL spend and revenue
Interesting. Arsenal and Chelsea's income are broadly the same, but Chelsea have made a 15 million pound loss since 2021. Arsenal have not.
Man Utd ad Man City have the 2nd biggest revenue but a big gap above and below them.
Brighton after Chelsea have the 2nd biggest loss since 2021. London City Lionesses £10.6m in losses was more than 10 times their revenue of £902,000.
Chelsea, City and Liverpool have the 3 largest spends on agents fees. Chelsea more than twice anyone else with a million pounts spent on them last season.
AFC Women's Champions League prelims have started! Here are the links..
I don't remember how long ago it was, but it wasn't that long ago, AFC made it a requirement that hosting countries provided a way to watch each match until the AFC took over streaming responsibility. Most games have commentary, though there are some exceptions.
The caveat is that the only country that provides English commentary is Malaysia. But that being said, every match is available in full with the exception of the East Bengal vs. Rajshahi Stars match in Malaysia.
The links provided will go directly to the beginning of each video, though some matches don't begin for some time (notably the Sabah match). Each match moving forward should be on the same youtube channels as these matches, so check the schedule (warning: scores are on this link! I'm sure you can find non-spoilery links) and keep a watch on the "live" tabs of these youtube channels.
Only the winner of each group will advance to the tournament proper. As of this post, we will have seen every team play at least once. Some of the scores are incredibly lopsided, but I think that's to be expected on two accounts; 1) these are the prelims and very few teams qualified directly to the main tournament, so you have semi-final and final-ready teams who are in the prelims and 2) many of these nations are relatively new to women's soccer.
Group A: Malaysia: Commentary in English
East Bengal (India) vs. Rajshahi Stars (Bangladesh): Game note: we join the match already at the 26th minute)
Saba FC (Malaysia) vs. Rovers (Guam): Game note: the commentary was probably supposed to begin at the 1 hour mark, but it takes a few minutes to get the sound to work. You can see the starting XI and part of an interview without sound.
Group B: Kyrgyzstan: Interviews are held in English, commentary held in what I believe is Kyrgyz because I don't think that's Russian...). Both matches have a standard opening sequence, pre and post-match interviews and full commentary.
TSL (Hong Kong) vs. Phnom Penh Crown (Cambodia)
Kaya-Iloilo (Philippines) vs. Ilbirs Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan)
Group C: Uzbekistan: This particular channel already has future streams listed for the rest of the group c prelims so you don't need to use the spoiler link above, and it's easy to get the correct time. Also, no commentary for these matches.
Banaat (UAE) vs. Royal Thimphu College (Bhutan): Game note, we join in the second minute and the scoring graphic thinks we're in Spain, for awhile. I'm not sure how long
Nasaf (Uzbekistan) vs. Master (Laos)
Group D: Thailand: Commentary in Thai.
4.25 (North Korea) vs. Kharaatsai (Mongolia): Game note, Naegohyang, also from North Korea, is qualified through being the current champions so this is the first opportunity for a nation to have two teams in the tournament proper, should 4.25 qualify.
College of Asian Scholars (Thailand) vs. S'Amuser (Timor): Game note, this video is approximately one hour longer than the 4.25 vs. Kharaatsai stream but I'm not sure why. I haven't watched it, yet.
Group E: Tajikistan: Commentary is, I presume, in Tajik.
Etihad (Jordan) vs. Al Nassr (Saudi Arabia)
Bam Khatoon (Iran) vs. CSKA Dushanbe (Tajikistan): Game note, I do not yet know if the regular Bam Khatoon players are on this team after Australia's offering of immigrant status to some of the national players. Many of the national players played for Bam Khatoon over the last few years.
Group F: Myanmar: I'm presuming the commentary here is in Burmese.
Ayeyawady (Myanmar) vs. Albirex Jurong (Singapore): Game note, I haven't watched all of the games, yet, but I believe that Ayeyawady still has the highest attendance. I'm not sure, but I remember last year the Myanmar side had an incredible atmosphere at their matches.
ÖFB-Frauen Bundesliga: Six standout young players who could define the 2026/27 season
It’s not just the clubs who make the history, it’s the players.
A season isn’t just remembered for historic moments, but the players and coaches who created the history on the pitch.

Awful Story of Discrimination in Mexico against Cruz Azul Femenil
There’s a story that’s making the rounds tonight where a well enough known podcast went off on the Cruz Azul women’s team after they lost to Club América 10-0. Basically, they called for the players to be fired and become strippers and start Only Fans pages. The podcasters all got a good laugh out of it, amongst saying some other things.
The story caught on when Cruz Azul management released a statement denouncing it. Other teams have followed. Tonight, the Mexican government even got in on it, something I’ve never seen before. Super disappointing but sadly not super unexpected given the mistreatment of women / women’s sports in the country. This is the same place where Scarlett Camberos had a stalker and felt she had to return to the USA to get away from it, and where I believe it was Tijuana had their locker room messed up by the men’s team. And until recently, women were paid in Microsoft Tablets for winning the league. Basically, it’s a mess.

Players Most Similar to Harry Kane
I’m currently coaching a girls u17 team, and I have a player who suits the team best as a striker, but I moved her to an attacking midfielder last season. As someone who mainly watches men’s games, Harry Kane is the most obvious player with a similar play style to her. Who are some women’s players that I can have her study to be like that as well?
